Thank you to NetGalley and Lucy Day for this ARC! One Sweet Holiday was a quick read with a relatable FMC who struggles with overthinking. I do wish that there was more of a holiday feel to the book as the title and description suggest. I didn't feel like it was that much of a holiday-oriented read. I also thought the plot could've used more development and not as much substance as there could've been. I also felt as though the ending was very rushed and didn't encapsulate everything it could have. Regardless, I thought it was a cute, fake dating/insta-love read.

One Sweet Day is a sweet, heart-warming, opposites attract, holiday romantic comedy set in a charming small town. A local baker, Gwen, is trying to find her footing during a busy holiday season when she meets a Scottish businessman, Logan, who is looking to hibernate and decompress. It was like reading one of my favorite Hallmark Christmas movies-- there's an instantaneous spark, fake dating, small town holiday events and overbearing families. It was a cozy, quick read filled with all the comforts you would expect in a holiday rom-com.

Thank you to NetGalley and Blue Crow Publishing for this e-ARC!

Such a light read for the holidays. Defiantly one to add to your list season. Lucy Day has such a fun voice and characters to die for.

I came across this author accidentally as a suggestion by Netgalley but it was not my cup of tea.

There seems to be tendency to write from both characters' perspective but it loses the suspense and all the tension. A book or a song is always about the catch the audience and release. I love the built up of the uncertainty in the romance literature and really living in the main character's shoes. But in this book, you are just an outsider watching passively what unfolds in front of you.

The book is too fluffy with a lot of dialogues and not much development of the characters so it lost my interest rather quickly. I used to love the rom coms in the past but nowadays they seem not to be worth to be called literature.

Thanks to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange of an honest review.

One Sweet Holiday is a new cute small-town festive romance novel from author Lucy Day. It’s the latest instalment in her Jasmine Falls Love Stories series but each book can be read as a standalone and has a guaranteed happily ever after. This was my first festive read of 2023 and boy has it got me in the Christmas spirit!
Our story is told through a dual POV and this worked so well in the story. I loved seeing instant attraction experienced by both Gwen and Logan and explored in their respective chapters. I also loved the banter between the two of them.
One of the things that I think sets One Sweet Holiday apart from other romance novels is the fact that the characters aren’t who you might typically see in this genre. Both protagonists are in their 30s and this makes their relationship feel so much more mature. On top of this, Gwen was the curvy queen that I’ve always wanted in a festive romance protagonist. I loved that the book celebrated body positivity by acknowledging her size and it being one of the things that attracted Logan to her. The way Logan talked about her curves and meeting her for the first time just made me melt.
If you are after male romantic interest who is the definition of swoon-worthy and will make you fall in love with him instantly, look no further than Logan Fyfe. He is a complete gentleman who is so respectful of Gwen and it was amazing to read. At one point in the story I worried that the miscommunication trope I have a vengeance against would rear it’s ugly head but Logan being the mature man he was any chance of this was eliminated immediately. I loved how supportive Logan was of Gwen, he had an absolute heart of gold.
The book also provided an unexpected but really interesting commentary on mental wellbeing and avoiding burnout which is so relevant to so many adult readers. The bakery setting added a really different angle to the story and we love a female entrepreneur who gives off total girl boss vibes! The family drama for both characters was also really interesting and it was great to be able to see how they tackle it as couple who are still in the early stages of a relationship.
One of the things that did take away from this being a 5* read for me was that the ending felt rushed. I felt that Gwen and Logan were owed a little more depth to their happy ending so this was a shame. I will also say that the fake dating trope felt misplaced within this story. There was instant attraction and a blossoming relationship so having them fake dating for the sake of appeasing Gwen’s mother felt like an unnecessary way to add in an additional trope. It’s also interesting that the book is marketed as an opposites-attract story when I found that Gwen and Logan were actually pretty similar apart from being from different countries.
This is a closed-door romance and I do wish we’d been given a little bit more and had even just the indication that sex had taken place. Instead, it was very much completely glossed over aside from some passionate kissing and this felt unrealistic.
These things aside, I still absolutely loved the story and it was the perfect Hallmark-movie style romance to get me in the festive spirit. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants an easy christmassy read, packed full of sweet moments, witty banter and relatable characters.

I really enjoyed this book!! It was the perfect combination of witty, fun, relatable characters, small town antics, and a slow burn friends-to-lovers romance.

I loved every antic in this book, every twist and turn, every word that had me questions what was going to happen next!! And the characters OMG! The characters really made this book!

I loved Gwen! She was absolutely one of the most relatable characters I’ve read this year! From having family members who feel the need to knit pick her every movement in life, to herself feeling like even with the success she has it just isn’t enough, and if she slips for even a moment it will all come crashing down. Even while feeling this way though she still manages to be there for friends, family, and her towns people whenever they’re in a pinch all with a smile on her face!! And watching her grow throughout the novel!! I just loved it all! Then of course you had the Scottish heartthrob with a heart of gold?! I mean how could anyone not love Logan! I mean he loves his family, he’s down to earth, has an accent, and calls Gwen love and gorgeous!! Who doesn’t love that? All while having her back whenever she needed him. He really was just the perfect companion for Gwen, he was willing to let her have the space she needed to grow while still assuring her he was a soft place she could land when she needed her. Not to mention every character in this book was hilarious!!

Overall, this was such a fun and cute read that I would highly recommend for anyone who likes, sassy but working on themselves MFC, supportive and prince like MMC, and slow burn friends-to-lovers romance with an epic payoff!!

I love Christmas and I love baking, so this was the perfect book for me. Really cute story of a fake dating couple who end up in love. Both have family drama to overcome, but the book is enjoyable. The drama is a part of the process. I truly enjoyed the relationship between the sisters and the romance in this book. I definitely recommend this romance.

Thanks to NetGalley and Blue Crow Publishing for this arc.

📚Book review: One Sweet Holiday by Lucy Day ✨

I totally recommend this if you like: opposites attract, small town romance, next door neighbor romance! 💕

❄️About: Gwen Griffin runs a cafe in the small town of Jasmine Falls and her sister is getting married. She wants to make sure everything is perfect for her sister. Her last breakup still has her mom (who sees her family as a reflection of her so everything must be perfect) and the town still talking so she must find her own wedding date! Enter Logan Fyfe. The groom’s old Scottish classmate and extremely wealthy. He’s trying to avoid his family and decided to hide out in this small town by renting Gwen’s sister’s cabin right next door. He fell for her pretty quickly and ends up making her realize that she can’t do everything on her own. They pretend to be each other’s wedding date when in reality they both fell for each other hard❄️

❄️This book kinda reminded me of myself because I was the type of person who hates asking for help and also felt compared to others by my family. The book comes out November 6th ❄️

I enjoyed reading this book, it was a great way to relax at the end of the day! I thought the bakery setting added some fun details to the story. I also loved the inclusion of the dysfunctional families as it made the storyline feel more realistic. The relationship between Gwen and Logan was sweet and you couldn’t help but root for her sister to take a stand! Great book!

Chemistry: 🧪🧪🧪🧪🧪
Plot: 4/5

Series:

Place: South Carolina

Tropes: Holiday Romance, Scottish MC, Entrepreneur, Billionaire Romance, Small Town, Scrooge

TW: Emotional Abuse, Death of a Family Member

Main Characters: Gwen & Logan

I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline with Gwen and Logan. They were complete opposites that complimented each other in the best ways possible. Gwen had her quirks that Logan was able to help her through each time they arose. He was patient and more than willing to hold her hand through it all. He gave her the best kind of support. Honesty and patience.

Gwen, God love her. I saw so much of myself in her and couldn't help but get all in my feelings throughout this whole book. So many things she felt and went through I could relate on so many levels. Especially when it came to her thoughts, that always seemed to be reinforced with her parents words and actions.

We are who we are because of who helped mold us. It's hard fo break from what you have been told your whole life by those that are supposed to love you unconditionally. Not to mention those same people are supposed to guide you and help you along the way. Not hinder you and treat you like you are the plague.

Logan also had some of the worst people in his life as his family. And it was a wonder that he even spoke to them at all. Like Gwen's parents his mother and grandfather took things to a much higher level of disfunction and petty. I absolutely couldn't stand them. They did some of the most underhanded things just to get what they want.

My heart and mind was in such a limbo reading this book because I feel like I was in the middle of everything with my family. Right along with Gwen and Logan. It was eye opening to be able to see myself in someone else's eyes.

I received a complimentary copy via the author and Netgalley. All opinions are my own, honest and voluntary.

Thank you NetGalley for gifting me this book.

I had a very nice time reading this book.
The male MC,Logan, is just incredible. He is understanding, caring, but also doesn’t hesitate to put boundaries. Qualities that make him a great boyfriend.

I also loved Gwen as she is loyal, nice, and also caring. The fact that she works in a cafe and is baking added some points for me as I usually enjoy the stories where there is food involved lol.

I also enjoyed the dual pov. However I found that the story was a bit too long at certain times, which is why I would rate it 4.5 stars.

One Sweet Holiday is the perfect Christmas read. Grab your hot coca and your blanket. You’re in for a sweet treat!

This book is the cozy Christmas read you’ve been looking for. I read it in one weekend.

Logan is a genuinely good guy and it’s a nice change from the usual alpha-hole but a sweet and supportive partner.

Finally, I really enjoyed that Gwen was tall instead of your typical small heroine. As someone who is 5’10, I felt I could relate even more with her.

One Sweet Holiday….

I loved this story! So cute and charming. The charmer was Logan! How sweet he was to Gwen just made the story. It was instant attraction for those two.
Gwen’s sister is getting married. Logan comes in for the wedding and rents the house next to Gwen. Logan is trying to get some breathing room from his family and they as putting pressure on him. Especially his grandfather who to be is plain rude.
Gwen is trying to make her bakery a success. Proving to her mother especially that what she does is great. Gwen’s mother and Logan’s grandfather are the characters that I didn’t like. But they did make the story.
You can feel the love Logan has for Gwen throughout the whole story. And you can feel Gwen letting her walls come down.
A wonderful story!

I enjoyed reading this book, I didn’t realize it was apart of a series though so it threw me off a little bit. But was still able to enjoy.

I loved this book from the start. The characters really made this story. I really liked the banter between the two main characters. I also loved that there was no 2nd act breakup.

I stayed up late to finish the book. It really was a hug in a book.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read Gwen and Logan’s story.

This book was okay. When I requested it I didn’t realize it was third in a series. It worked as a stand alone but I always feel more connected if I read the other books. The setting was fun and I enjoyed the characters. I wish it had been fleshed out a little more. I want to see both Logan and Gwen to tell their mothers off but it never happened. I may go back and read the other books in the series.

One Sweet Holiday is like the title suggests a sweet holiday romance that takes place in a cute small town following our main characters local baker and adorable female main character Gwen and the hotshot from Scotland Logan who's ready to steal her heart.
With fake dating and Christmas vibes this is the perfect read for this time of the year and I highly recommend it!
