Dear lord was this good. The world building was excellent and every page had a new detail that just had me studying it to catch new things. The pacing was also well done and nothing was boring. There were a lot of action scenes and they were well done and not confusing to follow. Every character introduced had their own charisma that made them interesting and the dynamics between everyone was so adorable. The art style is also so beautiful. I’m going to buy so many copies to gift this year.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Oni Press for sharing this book with me in exchange for my honest review.
Despite Covenant being quite a popular webtoon I had never heard of it but the cover caught my attention and made me interested in reading it! Sadly though turns out this sort of story isn't for me as I'm not big on religious themes and it didn't make me invested enough to want to move forward with this story but it was still quite an interesting read and the artwork is stunning.
There's clearly much work and dedication put on this story by the artist and I believe if you are a fan of demons, mythology and action you will really like this series! I do wish this first volume went deeper into many of the things that happened and the characters though but I understand that's an issue of adapting a webtoon into a graphic novel.
I absolutely loved this art style and I’m late to my review. I wanted it to sit with me but the storyline didn’t stick with me long enough to be able to write a detailed review.
It was a little difficult for me to read and I think the content just wasn’t for me personally. The writing was good and the art was fantastic, but I’m definitely not the correct audience unfortunately.
This was enjoyable and the artwork was absolutely gorgeous. It was an interesting story and I want to read more of it.
Absolutely fantastic! The art is stunning -- gorgeous character designs, intense action sequences, captivating details, and a dark, moody tone that is so visually appealing. The story matches the art and has intricate worldbuilding, great characters, mystery, depth, and tension. Everything about his comic appeals to me, but I especially like the queer characters and their beautiful tattoos that double as weapons. Angels, demons, priests, nuns, college kids -- they all have presence and impact. Highly recommend to fans of action, fantasy, and imperfect heroes you love to root for!
Premise and tone were horribly mismatched. Artwork was very well done but the dialogues made it unreadable.
This was an amazing graphic novel. The artwork is amazing and the story just as good. I will definitely be ordering it for my store and recommending it to customers. I can’t wait for the next volume to come out.
I read Covenant first volume and I can say that I liked the first volume.
First of all, the art is gorgeous. It suits story. The storyline is interesting and I need more. I'm a little disappointed that the summary spoiled so much of the story in this volume.
I feel like that it will be a long ride but a good one. The characters are badass but I hope we will see more about their relationships and their feelings in the future.
This was exciting with great artwork and an engaging cast of characters.
We meet the Church of Providence. An order of priests who dispatch demons, serve angels and protect humanity but all is not well because the demons are stirring. Demons are grabbing and enslaving human beings in a way that they haven’t done before and the priests need to meet this new darkness and save humanity before all is lost.
Ezra one of the priests, is rather surprised to find fellow student Sunny being pursued by demons. He decides to keep an eye on Sunny and as a result he and his fellow priests find themselves in running battles with the demons. Who is Sunny and why is he on the run and what do the demons want with him.
Something is happening and it is connected to Sunny, but what?
This volume sets the world building and the story in place with prayers, demons, sword fights and a bit of gore here and there. Also lots of tattoos.
I enjoyed reading this first volume and now I want to read the rest of the series.

An exciting and fast paced story with amazing art and interesting characters! I am so excited to see this traditionally published after previously reading it on Webtoon.
Cool and addicting art style that kept pulling me in, despite not understanding most of what was going on.
A perfect blend of fantasy/mythology and cool gothic fashion. I already love Ezra and Samson. There are so many characters and each of them have some interesting backstory which I can't wait to explore more in the next volumes. Not a five star reads because the dialogues could have been a little better.
This was fun. I’m here for basically any facet and rendition of queer representation. I was a bit surprised to enjoy this “Holy Queer” love and coming into ones power, but it hit so well. Can’t wait for the second volume.
In the thrilling supernatural world of "Covenant," exorcists are not just holy warriors but modern-day fighters adorned with sacred tattoos and armed with machine guns. Ezra, a powerful yet disillusioned exorcist, finds his faith tested until a divine mission sets him on a new path: protect a mysterious college student named Sunny from demonic forces. Sunny, who appears to be an ordinary human, hides dark secrets and a troubled past, making his protection a daunting task.
As Ezra and Sunny navigate their tumultuous relationship filled with sarcasm and distance, they are inexplicably drawn to each other. Together, they must face not only external demonic threats but also internal struggles with faith, destiny, and acceptance. The fate of their world might just depend on their ability to trust and understand each other.
**Review:**
LySandra Vuong's "Covenant" is a riveting blend of action, fantasy, and mythology wrapped in a punk gothic aesthetic. The story brings fresh energy to the supernatural genre with its unique premise of exorcists equipped with modern weaponry and holy tattoos. The visual style is striking, with vivid illustrations that enhance the action-packed and emotional narrative.
The characters of Ezra and Sunny are the heart of the story. Ezra’s crisis of faith and sarcastic demeanor contrast sharply with Sunny’s enigmatic and distant personality, creating dynamic and engaging interactions. Their slow-burn queer romance adds depth to their characters and their journey, making readers root for their eventual understanding and connection.
Vuong’s storytelling is both thrilling and thought-provoking, exploring themes of religious faith, the burden of destiny, and the complexity of good and evil. The comic seamlessly integrates intense fight scenes with moments of introspection and character development, ensuring a well-rounded and captivating read.

I am excited to purchase this title for my library, as I know my patrons will love it! Amazing, rich artwork, a story that hooks you, I love it!
This was such a fun introduction into the world of Covenant, and giving us a taster of what's to come in future instalments! I can't wait!
Covenant takes those horror films that you see where the stoic priest comes to save the day and turns it on its head. This book has action, sassy demons, sexy priests, strong women, inter church politics and queer religious people!! We start off on action and it doesn't let us down from there, drawing us in. It is expertly balanced between serious demon fighting and fun, flirty humour. I don't feel as though I've been so drawn into a story so fast with a graphic novel before and I flew through this. We get a hint of a potential romance towards the end, and this along with the strong plot set up has made me immediately seek out more! I really liked this book so much and I can't wait to read more straight away.
One of my biggest problems is that right off the bat, it throws you right into the deep end before giving any context. There is a magic system that, even after reading the whole book, I don't completely understand. It opens with a fight scene that introduces you to two of the main characters. I thought that I must have missed a book. That being said, I loved Samson from the second I saw him.
Though there was so much in this book that I loved, The story took me on a journey with stunning visuals, amazing characters, and an enthralling plot. There is also the bonus of really hot priests and queer people representing the church.
There is a very diverse cast of characters, and I loved just about every one of them. Each character truly felt like their own person, and I really enjoyed how the characters were able to switch from serious to silly. Samson might be my favorite, but Isaac is a close second. Samson and Ezra are an amazing duo. Watching Ezra be an idiot and Samson trying so hard to protect him was great.
This book reminded me a lot of the Shadow Hunter TV show. Especially with the tattoos that gave them powers. In the beginning, I just thought they were cool, but then I realized that they were the source of their power as well as how they were able to pull a huge gun out of nowhere. Something about them having magical abilities and still using a gun is so funny to me.
I loved the characters so much, and I need to know what awaits them. It ends on a cliffhanger, and I am not so patiently waiting for the next one.
Wonderful. Amazing. And what illustrations.
When I started Covenant, it took me while to get into it but once I was engaged in the story I finished it in one sitting (with my toddler running amok so imagine how hooked I was).
The churches are fighting demons with help of exorcists and these exorcists are not those traditional ones, we see in the movies. They are more like, have you watched Keanu Reeves's movie constantine? Yeah, those vibes but there are many Keanu Reeves in this set-up so better, much better.
The story is gripping and fast paced. I looked for next volume as soon as I finished this. I wanted to know what happened next.
Thank you Oni press and Netgalley for the wonderful ARC in exchange of an honest review.
A friend of mine had read this WebToon and for ages was raving about how incredible it was. I knew I had to try the series out for myself. This was an exhilarating, action-packed series about angels and demons and saving humanity. I feel that this volume gave us a really solid look into our key characters and the main plot points we need to understand the series going forward. How the magic system works, the politics surrounding the different churches as well as the interpersonal dynamics between our core characters. I am looking forward to seeing all of this expanded upon in future volumes!
