Absolutely stunning! I couldn't put this book down. Great pace and an even better ending. Angela Henry is now on my 'must read' list.

Dr Aaron Nichols has just been appointed to department chair at the university when he becomes attracted to Dr Cara Morton, his wife Paige discovers the affair and Aaron promises to end it, but he's not prepared for the backlash when Cara accuses him of something that could ruin his career and his marriage, then she disappears and Aaron is the prime suspect...

The Perfect Affair is told across various timelines but predominantly the story is set in the Before and After and told from the perspectives of the two main characters, Aaron and Paige, with occasional interactions from Cara as a young child. It's a dark and intriguing plot with more twists than a fairground rollercoaster and I developed a love/hate relationship with the main characters who all had secrets to hide and none of them could be trusted. The story started off quite slow, but this author certainly knows how to draw the reader in and after a few chapters I was hooked and I had no clue where it was heading or who was responsible for Cara's disappearance. This is a first for me by this author but I will certainly be looking at more of her work in the future.

I'd like to thank Storm Publishing and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.

This is a twisty ride that I devoured in a day. College professor Aaron is having an affair with his colleague, Cara. His wife finds out, then the mistress goes missing. Soon you find out that no one is who they seem and no one is telling the truth. A great thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Highly recommend.

Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this ARC, the below is my honest review.

The Perfect Affair had a strong start to the book, it hooked me instantly. However, I did think the middle of the book started dragging a bit. I did enjoy the twists which made this a good book overall, I always love when you think you know what happened and are wrong but done correctly and not completely out of left field.

Ever since watching Key and Peele sketch every time someone is named Aaron I always think of A A Ron and I loved that the book mentioned this, it made me laugh with this little shout out to the sketch.

This was my first book by Angela Henry and it certainly will not be the last, I will now keep an eye out for her work.

I would give this 3 1/2 stars if we could do half stars. This was an enjoyable romp. The ending left me exhausted…the final chapters was a lot of tying up strings, and not storytelling.
I think there was a concerted and admirable effort to write a story that was complex and intertwined, and I recognize how hard that is. There were entirely too many characters and storylines to keep straight in this book. Somehow, in the end, we got all of the answers but I can’t help but think this could’ve been a whole lot simpler.
Outside of the ending, this book grabbed me by the eyeballs and I swallowed it hole in one afternoon.

When Paige discovers her husband, Aaron, is having an affair, she is shocked. But it gets even worse when Cara, the woman he has been messing around with goes missing. Is Aaron involved? Can Paige trust what he's telling her? This was a twisted story but one that kept me listening purely because I had to know what was going to happen.

Aaron Nichols has just been promoted at the college. On the same day he finds out his wife has quit her nursing job. A woman at the college starts paying him attention and one thing leads to another. His wife finds out and asks him to finish the relationship. The mistress then accuses him of sexual harassment and then disappears.
The story goes between the before her disappearance and the events leading up to it and the after, the police investigation and how his and his families lives are affected.
There are plenty of twists and turns which make this very readable.

First I am so thankful for my first ARC. When I first started reading this book I was surprised the characters were Black, there isn’t enough mystery and thriller books with Black leads, so it made me even more excited to read it.

In this book all of the characters have their flaws, none of them are perfect and have mad mistakes in their past. Which I like.
The book had a lot of twists and kind of seem like too much towards the end.
And there is a lot of POVs

This was such a great psychological/domestic thriller that I could not put down!

Aaron Nichols becomes department chair at his university and gets involved in a steamy romance with one his colleagues; Cara. His wife, Paige, shows up at an event hosted by the college and discovers her husband looking at a female the way he used to look at her; like she’s the only one in the room who exists. Paige thinks she put a stop to Aaron’s affair until his mistress is discovered missing and he’s the prime suspect and is full of secrets.

This book has sooo much drama I had no idea which direction this was going. Everyone has secrets and everyone is connected somehow. The short chapters and dual POVs makes you want to keep reading to find out what exactly happened to Cara and who did it.

Thank you to #NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC!

Pub date: January 15th, 2024!

I got the chills so many times toward the end of this book. It completely blew my mind. It managed to surpass my high expectations AND be nothing at all like I expected. Let me preface this with an apology. If I sound stunningly inarticulate at times in this review, I can't help it. My mind is completely fried from this being amazing. I recommend it for those looking for a good suspense book. My only complaint is that in order to make it a standalone, the author gave away too much of the plots of the previous books.

Thank you to Angela Henry and NetGalley for the ARC opportunity for this book!

This one had soooo many twists and turns and plot twists it just kept me guessing! When I first started the book, I thought “okay, I know what’s going to happen, this is so predictable” and BOY was I wrong!! Just when I thought I had figured everything out, Angela threw another curveball. I really liked how she kept it interesting and kept you thinking, even in the epilogue! I also enjoyed how the chapters were told from different points of view, as well as being in the past and the present.

Aaron Nichols is a professor at Roberson University, and quickly becomes infatuated with his new co-worker, Cara Morton. He thinks he’s doing such a good job at being sneaky, but of course, women always know! Paige Nichols, Aaron’s wife, realizes he’s acting strange and learns of the affair. When Aaron tries to end the affair, Cara Morton suddenly goes missing. Aaron is the prime suspect, but did he do it? Paige, Aaron, and Cara all have secrets from their past that they don’t want getting out. What will they do to keep these secrets from coming out?

This book comes out on January 15th, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery with crazy plot twists and characters trying to keep their past lives from ruining the present (and future).

Thanks again to @Netgalley for another advanced copy.

Spoiler-free Summary: Paige meets her husband's beautiful colleague, Cara & instantly knows they're having an affair. Then Cara makes a shocking allegation that threatens to ruin everything. Paige stands by her husband, but things get tricky when Cara goes missing.

My Thoughts: The book kept me engaged to a point and I finished it somewhat quickly. The book lost me at times in the middle because I couldn't stop comparing it to the Fatal Attraction series (starring Joshua Jackson on Peacock). It was a very twisty book, which I liked, but whenever something happened, I couldn't stop myself from comparing it to the series. But that might be more my problem than the actual book's.

I want to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with ARC of this book. As someone unfamiliar with Henry's work, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the story had me hooked from the very beginning.

One of the standout aspects for me was how a single character could evoke a range of emotions throughout the narrative. I found myself feeling pity, anger, and sadness, sometimes all for the same character.
The story had lots of surprises and kept me guessing. The ending, especially the last part, totally surprised me and made the whole book even better. If you like mystery books, you should definitely check this one out!

Enjoyed "The Perfect Affair", which is the first Angela Henry book I have read. Full of twists and turns that kept this reader guessing to the end. Inspired by eighties and nineties thrillers such as Fatal Attraction the power of attraction is definitely evident as is the influence of drugs. The affects of both on families is evident in this tale. Thanks to Storm and NetGalley for the chance to ARC this book.

When Paige realizes her husband, Aaron, is having an affair with his colleague, Cara, she demands he stop. However, this leads Cara to torment them and accuse Aaron of sexual assault. Things get worse for them when Cara goes missing.

This one had good moments of suspense and a few good twists. My biggest complaint with this one though is the inconsistent time jumping. I wish the author had gone more chronological. I get she was trying to show how things happened after a reveal but I wish it had built up so then we could have seen the pieces unfold. The few random chapters from Cara’s perspective also didn’t feel necessary as they didn’t really advance our behind the scenes knowledge much. Same with the few detective chapters - those felt more forced.

I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
