as historical romances go, this is quite similar to quite a few, two people who have known each other their whole lives who now must marry to avoid becoming the talk of the ton.

As they begin to spend more time together they begin to learn about what makes each other tick and slowly begin to realise that maybe they could form a good partnership.

Their Inconvenient Yuletide Wedding is the story of Samuel and Julia, two people who have known each other since childhood but who end up being forced to marry to avoid scandal. Julia has a strong dislike for Samuel, who is clueless as to why but over the course of the story, they begin to get to know each other better and form an attachment. This was an enjoyable Christmas read and I found the main characters to be endearing.

Julia returns to England after spending time in Italy, suddenly sought after. Meeting Samuel again is painful as he was the focus of a teenage crush and teased her mercilessly. His rescue of Julia compromises her and forces them into marriage. Both are wary and distrustful—the story charts the deepening of their emotional ties and the gradual development of romance and love despite many conflicts. I like the characters, the festive Regency setting and the historical details in this story.

Julia, an ugly duckling turned gorgeous swan, is forced into an engagement with Samuel by her scheming mother in order to save both their reputations. Julia’s resentment towards Samuel runs deep - he kicked off the bullying that loomed over her childhood - yet they manage to overcome this antagonism. However, memories of his past love come back to haunt their relationship.

I liked the relationship between Julia and Samuel, in particular his effort to understand her and what made her happy. The library scenes were wonderfully full of romantic tension. Also, Julia’s annoyance at being treated differently by her social group after her ‘blossoming’ in Italy felt relatable and in line with the historical romance genre.

A festive historical romance, with equal tension and humour.

I liked the storyline in this novel and the general writing style.
The characters were well drawn and their interactions nicely envisaged.
Overall, I felt that was a nice book in the genre even if this was not an author that has a great deal of punch, and who is one who follows the expected line of these novel / genre types closely.

So, Julia and Samuel. I can see the connection between them and though the plot is *very* predictable I still enjoyed the ensuing drama I knew would be happening. That being said I do wish this was longer and more fleshed out. I liked the story, but I would have loved for their to have been more in general of both their times in Italy, them building a relationship, the ensuing drama, maybe even more of the drama between Julia and her mum. I just wished there had been *more*.
Overall though it was a decent read, a nice romance to get you feeling all cosy inside. Though for it being Yuletide themed I would have also thought there'd be more of the theme involved.
Favourite Quote - Even the smallest token would have been kept close to my heart if it was from you.

A sweet and easy Christmas story set in a town packed full of meddling mamas which let to entertaining moments. The trope is a forced marriage as Julia Livingstone and Samuel Beresford are in a compromising situation without a chaperone in sight even though it involves a rescue from a river this made no difference in this era. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Their Inconvenient Yuletide Wedding by Joanna Johnson was just the book I needed to put me into the festive spirit even in November. I will admit that it took me a chapter or two to get into the story but once I did I couldn't read it quickly enough to find out how our hero, Samuel, and heroine, Julia, achieved their happily ever after.

This was a feel-good story that had its sad moments. Still, it needed those to make you fully appreciate just how much Samuel and Julia had to overcome to appreciate how lucky they were to be together. Their budding romance was a pleasure to read and had me sighing aloud at the mushy parts. Julia's mother is a character you will love to hate, although I haven't determined if she is all that bad. Julia's brother, Harry, is a fabulous character and I love that he often didn't take his chaperoning skills seriously when it came to Julia and Samuel spending time alone.

Apart from the slow start, this book was an absolute pleasure to read and I definitely recommend it.

Thank you to Mills and Boon and Joanna Johnston for granting me an arc copy of the sweet festive regency romance, Their Inconvenient Yuletide Wedding to review.

A sweet, easy festive read set against the backdrop of a regency-era town packed full of meddling mamas, troubled childhood connections between both love interests, and set against the glitz of the Ton’s winter social events. The plot focuses on an encounter that leaves Julia Livingstone and Samuel Beresford in a compromising situation without a chaperone in sight, which forces them together in an unwanted marriage.

The writing is well-structured, and detailed with plenty of easily conveyed action and insights into the past tensions existing between Julia and Samuel. Some of the plot devices are a little cliché and didn’t feel imaginative reused in the build-up of the romance between Julia and Samuel. The scenery and grandeur of the Regency era are captured with elegance to show the differences between the stations of Julia's and Samuel’s stations in life. There are some nicely portrayed aspirations of mothers to do anything to ensure their daughters married well – a nod to the dynamics captured by some of the great Regency authors, like Jane Austen.

The characters were well-devised, coming off the page as whole-hearted individuals with flaws, dreams, and hidden wounds. Both Julia and Samuel have wounds that cause them to struggle with trusting others and each other. Samuel teased Julia as a child, which led to others bullying her because she was a plain child. Since then, Julia has struggled with loving herself, her self-value, and feeling unwanted. She grows into her looks as an adult, but underneath she’s hiding old wounds hoping to find a man who will love her for herself.

A woman Samuel love tries to entrap him into marriage to cover up her illegitimate pregnancy which gives him misgivings about the setup of Julia’s ruin. He’s sorry and ashamed about how his childish teasing caused so much pain for Julia, everything he does is an attempt to make it up to her. As he gets to see the real woman behind her mask he falls for Julia’s inner charms - her thoughtfulness, sweetness, and caring nature.

The ups and downs of their romance follow their journey to learn to trust one another and make right the pains of the past. The dynamics between Julia and Samuel were sweet, engaging, and. Samuel’s descent into falling in love pulls on the heartstrings as he’s a goner at first. Julia’s scheming mother adds a bit of comical value, I think every reader will be cheering for the moment she is put in her place.

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this but I really did. Samuel Beresford and Julia Livingestone are the talk of the Ton after he pulls her out of a freezing cold river. Her pushy mother demands they marry as her reputation is now ruined. Samuel bullied Julia as a child and doesn’t realise that his actions meant she felt alone and ostracised in the village.
As a consequence she feels she cannot trust him.
I enjoyed this novel because it is easy to forget how women were definitely lower class people (not even citizens) just a few hundred years ago. Being found to be in chaperoned meant social death. I liked the characters and how the author developed them. Plus the pushy mother got her commeupence.

Their Inconvenient Yuletide Wedding is a festive, historical romance novel by Joanna Johnson.
The novel follows Samuel, who rescues Julia out of a river. After rescuing her, it forces them into marriage, but Julia worries if she can trust him.
I was hooked from the very first page. The novel was easy to follow and the characters were likeable with a sweet innocence.
A beautiful novel that I highly recommend. I can't wait to read more by the author.

Julia is so delightful, a real star. The relationship is well described packed with emotion and uncertainty. The mother is a conniving character and her come uppance is widely and keenly awaited. The plot trots along with the beauty of the balls, dresses and waist coats all noted and enjoyed. A lovely gentle romance.

Julia Livingston was teased and ridiculed by Samuel Beresford when they were younger. It left her always feeling the outsider. I felt sorry for her because all her life she had been made to feel unwanted.

They both went away, and when they returned, he was the last person she wanted to dance with. But her meddling mother insisted. I loved how even though she hated him for what he'd done in the past, she could still see that he was unaware of how all the teasing had affected her.

She left the ball and ended up falling in the river and being rescued by Samuel! Caught un-chaperoned her mother insisted they wed. It's shocking how easy it was to compromise a woman in this era.

I've absolutely loved this storyline of enemies to lovers.

This romance was very entertaining, hilarious at times. A will they, won’t they despite being compromised story. A dreadful scheming mother, a lovely mother. Samuel was rather arrogant and Julia a bit wishy washy but their romance went well. Well worth reading.

I have mixed feelings about this romance - on the one hand, I love a marriage of convenience, especially one where the main characters have history together, but on the other, I felt like the bullying Samuel did had far too intense an impact on a young Julia for me to fully believe she'd be able to love him. The blurb didn't indicate that he was the instigator of her being an outcast at all! The writing is so-so, with a smattering of very ungrammatical sentences throughout, but the story on the whole flows well, with some sweet romance moments, and I really enjoyed Julia's growth, especially her realisations about her mother.
