Amazing book!
I was thoroughly engaged throughout this book and I didn't want to put it down! The author captured my attention from the get go! Five stars from me :)

The moment you realise this is a memoir and not fiction is when you start to grasp the enormity of the author’s choices. Seeing a spark in Elijah, a mixed heritage child in Sweden’s less than inclusive society, Nicolas takes him under his wing to care for him, steer him and ultimately encourage the discipline needed for Elijah to fulfil his basketball dreams. Nicolas isn’t perfect, that much is clear, but in a city with a high immigrant population, a racist police force, low life expectancy and even lower educational outcomes, he does care. And we could all do with a bit more of that.

Will You Care if I Die is an unflinching look at race, class, poverty and disenfranchisement in a Swedish city. Written as a letter from the protagonist Nicolas to his erstwhile adopted son, it doesnt pull any punches in its description of real life for these young men, not wanted by anyone and excluded from society. Its not an easy read but it is a story that deserves to be told by voices that deserve to be listened to.
