Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC!
This was a fun read! I enjoyed the creative premise and how it's educational yet entertaining. Although I've already read the first volume before, it was still enjoyable to read it all over again!
I've seen the anime for this and I always love the chance to read the manga the shows I like come from.
This one is amazing. I love the character designs, I love the stories and the way the characters interact. I think the platelets and macrophages are my favorite of the designs. I also really like how the book provides facts about how the body and diseases work. It's a fun way to learn new things.
The ebook I was provided only includes the first volume, but I will defenitly be picking up the rest of them once the omnibus comes out.
Thank you for the e-arc NetGalley and Kodansha Comics!
So excited to have received this comic! I really loved the show and I'm excited to get to read more! This comic is action packed and quite funny as all of the characters are different illnesses or cells in the body. The whole series is extremely entertaining and really easy to read.
This book is just so entertaining and I could see my kids reading this manga as another way to learn about their bodies and biology. Truly a fun and accessible way to explore the wonders of a human body while enjoying an action packed story that happens in the manga. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
Cells at Work is a fun and educational look at how our bodies work. The cells are people and they're all working in a big building (the body). The different cells fight off illnesses like influenza, allergies, and infections from scrapes and other injuries. There's lots of action here, and it's explained what each cell does, along with what each bacteria is and its symptoms. I probably would have had a much easier time learning biology had this existed in my high school days.
As its mostly action centered, there's not a whole lot in the way of character depth. The action is exciting and the artwork is really well done. I'm excited to read more of this manga! I would recommend this for high schoolers or entry level college biology students.
Thank you to Kodansha Comics, author Akane Shimzu, and NetGalley for gifting me a digital copy of this manga. My opinions are my own.
I love this manga and am so excited to see an omnibus version of it! It's got cute and fun characters, awesome action, and great art that tells the story of the human body and how it works in a unique way.
Thanks to Netgalley for a copy for an honest review

This is both adorable and educational! I love how it teaches about how the body works in a way that doesn't smack it over your head to heavy. It makes me want to take care of my own little red and white blood cells.
This manga is probably the best possible vehicle to deliver to teenagers and newcomers an intro to human biology stylized as an action comic novel. A bizarre venn diagram of things, but it's essentially what it is: infotainment. The characters are not fully fledged on their own right to be, well, characters and not gijinkas (anthropomorphic personifications) with emotional arcs. It does teach you very illustratively how the body works, though! I can imagine a group of people who love science facts and action manga will find that combo delightful, and others would completely blank out on it. I found it amusing as a concept.
I think this manga is better suited to someone that is not in the life sciences field. I originally thought this would be perfect for me because I am a scientist and that I would love having a manga with a science theme. However, actually reading the manga proved that wrong. It’s just very dry of a read overall because there are so many panels with a very basic explanation about things like red blood cells or pathogens. It’s like freshman year level of high school knowledge. It read like a lecture, except none of it was new information so it was very boring.
With that being said this might be a good fit for a younger audience that hasn’t learned all of this information yet, if they want a more fun way to learn it than an actual textbook.
Thank you to netgalley, the publishers, and the author for the arc I read.

"Cells at Work! Omnibus 1 (Vols. 1-3)" is informative, entertaining, and fresh. What goes on in the human body is brutal! I think this manga series would be a great addition to my manga collection. I loved the T-cell and white blood cell characters. Can't wait to see what happens in the other volumes!

I had watched the first episode of this anime when it was first released so was very excited to read this Manga series!
Only volume one was available but it was a great chance to read about these great characters and brush up on some of my knowledge of the human body by seeing how each character/cell reacts after various illnesses/bacteria become present in the body. Would definitely recommend if you like an easy slightly nerdy read! Going to have read the rest in the near future.
Thanks to NetGalley and Kondansha Comics for access to this digital ARC in return for an honest review.
Cells at Work Omnibus volume 1 by Akane Shimizu will be released on November 28, 2023. Kodansha Comics provided an early galley for review.
This manga takes the world within ourselves and turns it into a dynamic action-adventure tale. Each story shows how the cells in the body react to various situations, working together and supporting one another. The characters that personify the cells have unique designs that reflect their nature and function.
Not only does this manga entertain, but it also informs and educates the reader about the inner workings of our anatomy. Descriptive boxes explain what various cell types and body parts do. It is very easy to see why this is hailed by doctors as an accurate representation of the body.
I still find this story so original, wacky, funny & highly informative.
We see the internal workings of the body as cells are turned into humanoids and work around the body to fight bacteria & go about their jobs to keep the body alive.
I absolutely adored this manga The idea behind. It is so cool to me and the characters are well formed and it’s not only informational but it also is interesting to read about. I think this is a very easily accessible and fun to read will also learning book and I would highly recommend. I have read one of these books before, and I still rate this five out of 5 stars. I loved the art style that wasn’t too much to text on the Paige. Everything flowed very well and the way that each of the characters interacting with each other was spot-on. I would 100% recommend and I will definitely be really more of the series in the future.
