I devoured this book, literally could not put it down.
Becca Taylor’s life is in a bit of a free fall. She is struggling at work, has a serious case of writer’s block, her best friend is dead, and she is surprised when her ex-boyfriend shows back up in her life. She is in need of a serious change of scenery so when her online friend and fellow author Riley invites her to visit their cottage in Ireland to hopefully help each other overcome their writers block, Becca books a ferry and heads out of town.
Riley O’Connell is a published romance writer who is struggling to meet the deadline for his second book. He is a hopeless romantic, lover of rom coms and a big fan of the “grand gesture” trope. He invites his online friend Becca to visit his home in Ireland to hopefully inspire him to finish his second book. The only problem? Becca assumed Riley the romance author was a woman and she is very surprised when he turns out to be a very handsome, athletic, 6 foot tall man and that definitely stirs up some feelings.
If you’re a lover of rom-com’s like Riley (and myself) you’ll love this book. It reminded me a lot of the movie P.S. I Love You. The setting being in Ireland which is the picture perfect rom com setting. Plus the story is told in present day and in flashbacks, which I enjoyed. We get to see Becca’s current life but we also see glimpses of her life with the best friend she lost and that helps us get to know her better.
There were multiple plot twists that I was not expecting so it lived up to its name. I absolutely LOVED the epilogue. This story is romantic but it is not spicy, it is closed door/fade to black. The side characters were so charming.

This book was the perfect romance. The characters were likable, the plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat. Would definitely recommend!
Becca's bf is dead and her career is stuck. Fellow writer Riley invites her to the Irish countryside and she jumps at the chance. BUT Riley turns out to be a man and their pasts are both complicated....
A fun rom-com. I love Riley and Becca. Sweet story with lots of LOL scenes. Fun banter. Really enjoy it.
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
As soon as I started this book I knew I loved it. It kept me hooked and I would definitely read more bynthe author in future releases.
Breea Keenan, just got herself a new fan! This is a book that had me smiling, crying, giggling like a loon at midnight. At times, even had me shedding a few heart-clenching tears. My emotions were all over the place because every word meant something, every emotion counted, and every sentence struck the right chord. Loved it very much.
Thank you Netgalley, Headline, and author Breea Keenan for providing an ARC in exchange for a review! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5 stars (rounded to 5)
I have to admit it: I’m a sucker for rom-coms and, just like our MMC Riley, I’m a hopeless romantic. This book was delightful, I laughed and I cried while reading it, it’s everything I could ask for from a book like this.
The premise is simple: Riley invites Becca to stay over at the charming Irish countryside after Becca’s life turned upside down. However, Riley, who Becca had always thought to be a fellow female writer, turns out to be a hot, six-foot tall Irish man. I find it hard to believe that Becca never suspected that her online friend wasn’t a woman or that Riley never pointed out that he was a man, but we’ll see past that small detail for the sake of love and Grand Gestures.
In addition, I’m used to reading rom-com set in the States and seeing this story unfold in a much familiar land felt so gratifying, as if a love story like this could actually happen to you too. The banter between our two main characters was hilarious and the build up to their relationship was executed perfectly well. I loved Ivy, Bridget and Ellie. They’re such charming characters, the cherry on top!
Plot Twist is a page-turner, charming book that I’m sure will captivate rom-com lovers when it comes out! And after discovering this is Keenan’s debut novel, I can’t only imagine how good her future novels are going to be… I can’t wait to read them!
