I loved this book, it was great being back in the cottage with Rosie and her mum, and finding out more about their stories. I could definitely relate to Rosie and where she was in life at the start of the story, and it was so encouraging to follow her story, stepping out and finding love.

I was so happy we got answers for her mum and saw her progressing in her healing journey.

Recommend every book by Jessica Redland, but I have truly loved how inspirational and motivational this series has been so far. Five Stars all the way!

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for a free ebook in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book and loved Oliver and Rosie and how they were learning to reconnect with each other after so many years apart and alot of things happening to the pair of them. Oliver has now lost both parents and Rosies mum had her accident. Can Rosie save her home and job and help Oliver get over his loses too. Lovely read.

It’s been a real treat to return to this lovely series set in the English Lake District to catch up with what is happening in the pretty village of Willowdale which nestles on the banks of the picturesque Derwent Water. In this second book in the series we meet again with Rosie who runs the Willowdale Riding Stables and who regularly runs the wrath of the irascible riding stable owner, Hugh Cranleigh. Hugh is an awkward and bad tempered man, however, when he has an accident it gives Rosie the opportunity to become reacquainted with Hugh’s son, Oliver Cranleigh, who she grew up on the Willowdale estate. There is complicated history between Rosie and Oliver and this book explores, in detail, just what caused them to become estranged.

This is a lovely warm-hearted story but with a darker edge especially as we get to know more about Rosie’s ‘mam’, Alice, and the secrets in her past which have threatened her peace of mind for far too many years. The Lake District setting adds the perfect environment especially as we get to explore the area on walks with Rosie and her friend Autumn, a character we met in the first book in the series. There is much to enjoy in any of this author’s creative works and A Breath of Fresh Air certainly lived up to my expectations in a story which kept my attention from start to finish.

I love a Jessica Redland series and so have been really looking forward to A Breath of Fresh Air; the second in the Escape to the Lakes series. Having been blown away by the first book and Autumns story, I was keen to see how Rosies story would work out.

Autumn had escaped to the Lake District to meet her long time penpal, and best friend, Rosie. We had already discovered quite a lot about her and her Mum, but this time the focus being on them means we learn so much more. Although it is the second book in the series you could read this as a standalone, you do catch up with Autumn and what is happening with her (I would highly recommend reading The Start of Something Wonderful though).

Rosie lives with her Mum Alice, is the manager of the local riding stable on the estate where she grew up. She has been happy until recently – worrying about her Mum who is too afraid to leave the grounds of the Estate following an accident years ago, fearing she would remain single forever as well as questioning who her father was. With so much uncertainty and worry in her life she is wary when a familiar face from her past is now very much part of the present.

I love the characters Jessica creates; they are believable and feel like friends who you want the best for. I emphasised with Rosie, her frustration and worry and understood why she guarded herself against further hurt. Alice was a frustration for me, I really do like her and sympathised with the trauma she had been through I just wished she’d try and get some help for herself. There are characters you are definitely not meant to like, especially as we discover some heart breaking truths.

Another excellent read, honestly I can’t praise Jessica Redland enough for constantly bringing us books with great settings, wonderful storylines and engaging characters.

A Breath of Fresh Air is just that for readers. A book to thoroughly enjoy, full of emotion, hope and heart. Already looking forward to the next book.

I have been a fan of Jessica and her work for quite a while now. By no means have I read everything that she has written to date but that's something that I hope to rectify in the not too distant future. I read the synopsis of 'A Breath Of Fresh Air' and it certainly sounded like the sort of book I have come to expect from Jessica Redland - a heartwarming tale about family, friendship and love. Well it was certainly that and so much more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'A Breath Of Fresh Air', which is the second book in the 'Escape To The Lakes' series, but more about that in a bit.

Whenever I pick up one of Jessica's books, I know that I am in for a treat and that reading the book will prove to be extremely addictive. Well 'A Breath Of Fresh Air' did prove to be extremely addictive and I loved the story. As soon as I started reading I knew that I wouldn't be doing anything other than reading for the rest of the afternoon because I couldn't put the book down. My Kindle wasn't exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn't bear to miss a single second of the story. Part of the reason why I enjoyed the story so much has to do with the main character of Rosie, who ended up feeling more like a friend rather than a character in a book. I had my own suspicions as to what was going to happen and I had to keep reading to see if the story panned out in the way in which I thought that it would and what implications that might have for Rosie. The more of the book that I read, the more I wanted to read and the quicker the pages seemed to turn. I was so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the book. All too quickly I reached the end of 'A Breath Of Fresh Air'. I found 'A Breath Of Fresh Air' to be a heartwarming and emotional story that left me feeling as though I had had a 'hug from a mug of hot chocolate'- in other words I was left feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

'A Breath Of Fresh Air' is superbly written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Jessica Redland. Jessica has an easy going writing style that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact reading one of Jessica's books often feels more like a chat between friends rather than reading a book. I hope that makes sense. Jessica clearly cares about her characters and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she describes them. She makes her characters seem just as real as you and I. As I mention above, Rosie ended up feeling more like a friend than a character than a book. Jessica deals with some pretty tough subjects but she deals with them in a compassionate and sensitive manner. I don't know how Jessica does it but somehow each book seems personal to me and I find that I have been through similar experiences as the main character so in that respect Jessica's books give me hope. Reading 'A Breath Of Fresh Air' certainly felt like being on an emotional rollercoaster ride with all the ups and downs, twists and turns and so on. I love the way in which Jessica makes the reader feel as though they are part of the stay and at the heart of the action. That's how I felt anyway.

In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'A Breath Of Fresh Air' and I would definitely recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Jessica's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

The second book in the series and a welcome addition. It was lovely to be with the characters again and learning more about their story. It's easy to get lost in the pages of this book. So set some time aside.

✨My Thoughts✨

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was so excited to read this and I really wanted to second book in this new series to be about Rosie because she was such a good friend to Autumn in the previous book and she’s had such a hard life so deserves some happiness, I got my wish!.

Rosie is feeling a little low when she’s at the local quiz night because her best friend Autumn is settled with her partner Dane and a few other couples are showing affection to each other in front of Rosie, she feels like the gooseberry for the first time ever.

Rosie has a fulfilling life with her full time job as the manager of the Willowdale Hall Riding School, her mum who’s virtually a recluse since her accident and her best friend Autumn is finally living in the same village but deep down she wants a little more.

I loved every single part of this book but I especially loved the revelations and secrets that unfolded, I’ve been wanting find out a certain one since the first book.

The village and every single character will warm your heart.

It’s the perfect pick me up to make you smile on a bad day.

This is the second book in the wonderful Escape To The Lakes series by Jessica Redland. This book is so beautifully written it is so easy to get lost in, the relationships and friendships and genuine it just melts my heart. I think the way the story has developed from the previous book is perfect and I can really sympathetise with the trials and tribulations faced by the characters and I just loved the book and it's picturwsque setting. I was so sad when this book ended and I need more of this story ASAP the final cliffhanger left me desperate for more.

This is the second book in the Escape to the Lakes series by Jessica Redland and another great read from Jessica.
This is Rosie’s story and takes us to the stables at Willowdale Hall. The story takes us back to the past and the back story of Rose and her Mum, but this is intermingled with the present day. It is another emotional journey with a cliff-hanger in the Epilogue. Looking forward to reading book 3.

A Breath of Fresh Air is the 2nd book by Jessica Redland in the Escape to the Lakes series.
I absolutely love Jessica as an Author so when I was able to review this book I was made up! I bought the first book and got up to speed, you are able to read them separately as you still understand what’s going on but I love to read them in order.
We meet Rosie again, who is also in book one, but the story of that is centralised on Autumn, her friend..
Rosie and her mum manage the Stables of willowdale hall, she is also helping her mum get over a trauma that happened a long time ago and she starts to think about her own love life. The book takes us back to her growing up on the Estate and playing with the little boy who lived in the big house, Oliver. We learn of their turbulent relationship and how when he comes back into her life due to a death in the family, how their relationship pans out. Will she forgive him for the past? Also what a cliff hanger too!
Really enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed reading A Breath of Fresh Air by the Lovely and very talented Author Jessica Redland.
Well, wow, what to say about this gem? There are twists and turns all over the place. Set in the Lake District, we follow Rosie’s story. You’ll love Toffee and Chester the dogs in the story. Autumn also appears, as you may remember she moved there, having been Rosie’s pen pal for many many moons.
Rosie’s mum Alice features heavily in the story as one of the main characters. She has her demons she needs to lay to rest and as the story progresses there seems to be a lot of surprises on the horizon for her too.
Hubert is a moody character who listens to no one but himself and his stubborn ways see him in a sticky situation. His estranged son Oliver appears to take control of the mess. This causes some unfinished business to come to light between him and the lovely Rosie.
Rosie struggled a lot at school at the hands of the ‘Populars’ who are the mean girl types with lads thrown into the mix for good measure. The dynamics reminded me of a song called ‘Olympia’ by former grunge band Hole.
The tall and short of it is that this is a page turner, you’ll lose yourself in the continuing ‘oh my goodness’ moments, an enjoyable and fully recommended read.

A fantastic visit back to the beautiful Lake District with a wonderful bunch of interesting characters and some intriguing moments too!
I really enjoy Jessica’s style of storytelling, it’s always a little more emotional than a regular romance story, the characters often have situations that they are struggling with and she often shares valuable insights into conditions via her characters.
Rosie is a strong and likeable character, she runs the riding school and looks after her mum, who is unable to leave her home and surrounding area due to a traumatic event in her past. Rosie has given up so much to support her mum and you find yourself willing her on to grasp at an opportunity to do something for herself.
Fate throws Oliver into the mix, he’s a blast from her past that brings back memories both good and bad from her youth. It was fascinating to find out their backgrounds and to see them reconnect.
Lots of mysteries to discover along the way, this was a riveting read and I am already excited for book three from this excellent series.

It's no secret that Jessica Redland is simply one of my favorite authors. Her story telling is just spot on... I always end up caring so much about the characters and what they are going through that it practically feels as if I am there with them.

We already met Rosie in the first book which focused on her best friend Autumn when she was visiting Rosie, but in this book we really get to know all the ins and outs about Rosie and see even more how truely selfless she is and just how lovely! I loved the relationship between Rosie and her mother and between Rosie and Autumn.

This story is full of friendship, family, overcoming hard times, uncovering secrets and dealing with very difficult things, but there is also so much to make you smile and fully escape away to the lakes. I loved it!

I unfortunately found the book to be really slow paced. I wasn't a fan of Oliver which put me off caring if they got together. Rosie is so submissive like she just takes Oliver's crappy behaviour and has clung all these years to that he will return to how he used to be and I got 50% of the way in and I didnt feel any shift in the relationship. I wish we had more time with Oliver in the start of the book in order to see the character development rather than a third in.

A Breath of Fresh Air is the second in Redland's Escape to the Lakes series and was an absolute delight to read.

Being back in the Lake District was wonderful, it's such a beautiful place, calm and the perfect backdrop for this series.

I love Redland's books so much, because with each series we get to meet some amazing characters who feel like friends and it's always sad to bid them farewell at the end. This time round the book focuses on Rosie and her mum Alice, along with a fantastic supporting cast of characters.

It's heartwarming, emotive and highly enjoyable and does (annoyingly) end on a bit of a cliffhanger! I'm keeping everything crossed we don't need to wait too long for book three.

A Breath of Fresh Air is the second book in the Escape to the Lakes series. I loved (surprise surprise) the first book and although part of a series, these stories can be read as a standalone, but trust me you’ll want to read them all and why deprive yourself of a more magical journey.

Rosie and Oliver are gorgeous and relatable characters, full of heart, warmth and so much emotion. Jessica’s descriptions as always are just so vivid, makes you want to step out the pages of the book and just go there yourself, so wonderful.

As always I devoured this book in one sitting and instantly regretted it once I’m done, because then it’s over and I need the next one, but oh this time there’s a cliffhanger, I need the next book and I don’t know when that will be in my hands and I need it yesterday ! (Cliffhanger relates to something in the next book and series, not the main story of this book)

Fantastic, heartwarming and emotional, you need to read this (and Jessica’s entire back catalogue 🤣🥰)

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

What a beautifully written story. This is a great book that deals with serious topics and the author handled them with care and sensitivity. I adored this book and can't wait for the next book in this series.

Set in the beautiful Lakes district, A cottage on the grounds of Willowdale Hall is home for Rosie and her mother and managing the stables is Rosie’s work and passion. Content with her work and the people in her life, Rosie hopes to continue to help her mother deal with trauma caused by an accident and convince her to reveal a secret from the past. When the Lord of the manor dies in a riding accident his son and Rosie’s first love comes back to the Hall to deal with the future of the estate, and Rosie realizes that not everything from the past is going stay buried.

This book just wasn’t my cup of tea - it was very dialogue heavy and relied on this to keep the plot moving forward but I would’ve preferred to spend more time in the characters heads both in the past and present day to understand why they’re compatible and fell in love. Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood books for this advance and reader copy.

Rosie's life revolves around the stables at Willowdale Hall and her mother. Sometimes she wishes there was more, a father who could support her with her mum, or someone special, but she has good friends, a career she loves and is content until an accident brings someone from the past into her life and the potential for significant changes. I love the emotion that defines this story. It has believable characters and relationships, drama and romance. Rosie is a likeable character who makes the best of life. You invest in her life and want her to find someone to share it with. I like the friendships, the mother-daughter dynamic and the realistic romance. Coupled with a Cumbrian setting, this is a lovely emotional and escapist read.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
