A beautiful book, set in the Lake District, very well written and by Jessica Redland. All her books are well worth a good read and as this is the first of a new series we can expect the same from this series. Well done Jessica, fantastic, well worth far more than 5 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley, author and publisher for this ARC
The second in the Willowdale / Lake District series does not disappoint. I really enjoyed the first book & this one continues to feature the wonderful friendship between Autumn and Rosie while focussing more on Rosie’s childhood and current experiences.
Jessica Redland is one of my very favourite authors in this genre, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Her affection for The Lakes shines through in her descriptions of a blend of real places and the fictional village of Willowdale, where the fully-formed and believable characters in her books live.
I have to admit to finding the possibility of the two main characters in a romance being second cousins somewhat off-putting & a bit ‘icky’ until it was, thankfully, disproved. I also wasn’t keen on the cliff-hanger ending. I will be itching to read book three as soon as possible so didn’t need a cliff-hanger to pull me into the next book.
A heartwarming story about finding lost love. I can’t wait for book three.
Rosie loves her job working with horses. It’s all she’s ever wanted to do. Her old childhood friend Oliver is back and one fateful night could change things.
I thought this was another good book by this author. Lots of secrets come out and it ends with a cliffhanger.
I will be patiently waiting for the next one
A Breath of Fresh Air is a lovely story set in an equally lovely setting. It had everything I expected from a book of this genre and it did not disappoint at all.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my ARC.
As always Jessica's books do not disappoint. This book just flows as the previous one and you can't stop reading. Lovely light books.
I have absolutely loved revisiting The Lake District. Having worked there as a Youth Worker when I was at University in Lancaster and after Uni it has a special place in my heart. I have also visited the lakes since then with my now husband.
The trip to the lakes that Jessica takes you on has it's ups and downs for the characters and I felt like I was in it for the ride. It's a heartwarming and in parts heartbreaking story of what ifs and regrets but can they be resolved...well I know the answer to that but you'll have to read this lovely book of you want to know.
I really enjoy Jessica's writing style, storylines and characters. Her descriptions of the scenery and what is happening in the story and the title of the book suits this book so much, you can imagine yourself taking a long deep breath of fresh air standing by one of the amazing lakes in the beautiful countryside.
Can't wait for the next book.
A gorgeous sequel and just as warm and fulfilling as the first. The book can be read as a stand alone as Jessica has made sure that all unknown bits were explained but it is so much better as an extension if you have read the first. I loved how Alice's story was throughout both books and is a focal point in this one, I loved how the main characters from the first were ever present in this one too. I thought I was very clever in stitching up the mysteries within the early chapters, but no, I hadn't! The book got more interesting towards the end and didn't finish as soon as the protagonists got together which some annoying books do. In fact the only thing which I can fault isn't really a fault at all but one storyline ends in a cliffhanger...I want to know now!!! Will be hanging out for the next installment!
Thanks to Netgalley and the author and publisher for a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review.
That cliff hanger ending!! I immediately had to check when the next one is due out!
This is the second in the series, and I do recommend reading the first before reading this one - characters appear in both, and certain parts make more sense.
I felt so sorry for Rosie and everything she had to deal with, and even though Oliver wasn't always nice, I could see why he did what he did. I did go from seriously disliking him to liking him.
I loved finding out the shocking secret behind Alice's tragic past, and the dual timeline worked perfectly here.
This book has romance, mystery and suspense, and tragedy- so a bit of everything.
Once again, I adored a Jessica Redland book, and I'll keep coming back for more.
This is the second book in the Escape to the Lakes series from Jessica Redland. The storyline is set once again in the fictional village of Willowdale on the shores of Derwent Water, one of the larger bodies of water in the picturesque Lake District. It was good to revisit the village where the first book in the series was set and to meet up with some familiar characters. Although this story can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading the first book in the series before this one to give complete enjoyment. The book has a beautiful cover recognisable as a typical Lake District scene.
The story this time brings to the fore Rosie, a character who featured in the last book She lives and works on the Willowdale Hall estate, where she looks after the horses and runs the riding school. She has lived all her life with her mother in a cottage on the estate, but has never known the identity of her father. When Hubert Cranleigh, who lives in the hall, has a riding accident near to Christmas, his son, Oliver, returns home. Rosie and Oliver grew up together and had a relationship in the past, but he now pretends not to know her and keeps his distance. When his father dies and the future of the hall and its riding school is in doubt, many surprises come to light for both Rosie and Oliver.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it, especially to lovers of the Lake District. I must mention, though, that the book ends on a cliffhanger, which I was not expecting; I will be keenly waiting for the next book in the series to solve the mystery and hope it won’t be too long a wait. I loved the characters in this story, with the exception of Hubert Cranleigh, a very unlikeable character. Oliver was a bit of a contradiction - quite unlikeable to start with but the opposite by the end. I was quite prepared to dislike him but then he began to show another side to his character. Rosie and her mum were just as lovely as in the last book; I loved their relationship, and the way in which Rosie looked after her mum in particular. I liked the way in which Rosie and Oliver’s history was revealed in a series of flashbacks dotted throughout the book; I think that worked well to explain their current relationship. I am very much looking forward to the next story in this series, not only because of the cliffhanger but also because I am enjoying following the events in this village and the lives of the characters who live there.
I really like Jessica Redlabd's style of writing, and the warmth she gives to her characters and setting, so this was a must read for me. The second book in her Lakes series, this is the follow up to The Start Of Something Wonderful. I do think you need to read that book before this, as it sets the scene and introduces many characters that this book relies on.
This book focuses on Rosie's story. Rosie runs the stables, and is very focused on her job and caring for her mother, who she cares for after a tragic accident. Can she find time for herself amongst her work and mother?
I love Rosie's mother, so hearing more of her story was great. Oliver was a character that had to grow on me, but that happened as more of his back story was revealed. I loved the cliffhanger ending - although I am now desperate to find out what happens next!
This was a sweet and enjoyable read from Jessica Redland. I loved the setting! It was a new book, not from one of her series but I enjoyed meeting the characters.
Another wonderful story from Jessica. How I loved this follow up to The Start of Something Wonderful. I enjoyed finding out about Rosie and her Mum. It was good to catch up with Autumn and Dane too. I am eagerly awaiting publication of the next installment. I highly recommend this book.
I was granted an ARC by Goodreads of this novel. A loving and dedicated daughter, Rosie loves her work in the stables on the estate where she and her mother live. When unexpected events and upcoming changes occur, Rosie’s past meets her present and life begins to change but can it given the situation her mother is in? A Breath of Fresh Air explores the relationships of family and friends and a few surprises that keep the reader totally engaged. Four stars for this excellent read!
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I love Jessica Redlands books and thoroughly enjoyed reading this one.
We’re back in the Lake District, at Willowdale hall where Rosie and her mother have been running the farm stables for its owner Hubert Cranleigh.
After a while Hubert is in hospital, ill, when his son Oliver arrives after hearing the news to look after him and the estate.
Both Rosie and Oliver know each other since childhood, but during that time period, Oliver did things that broke Rosie's heart and she’s not been able to forget how much he hurt her.
Now, after they’ve not seen each other for 20 years, will they be able to put the past behind them and rekindle their love?
Cannot wait to read the next book.
I highly recommend this book.
I love the way Jessica Redland writes and I
really enjoyed this during the telling. I liked the intriguing storyline, family secrets, engaging characters, idyllic setting and especially Rosie's job as a horse riding instructor (as a keen horse rider myself). But the ending totally spoilt it for me. More accurately that there wasn't an ending as such, more a cliffhanger obviously to be continued in a sequel. I do like a series and relish the opportunity to catch up with these brilliant characters again but as standalone this felt disappointingly unfinished.
This second book in the series is about Rosie who is the manager of the riding stables. An accident years ago left her mother with mental trauma which means she doesn't leave the grounds of the stables and Hall. Rosie has no chance of meeting anyone to love as who wants to be stuck in the one place unable to ever move on? Then, because of another accident her first love comes back into her life. The first love who constantly let her down and actually sided with the people who were bullying her.
I was so happy to read this sequel. There is so much going on in this book as there usually is in all Jessica's books. I do hope it won't be too long before the next book as no one likes to be left with a cliffhanger. Jessica...take note. I can't wait for it.
Such a lovely book, When I started I didn't know it was a second book in a series but I didn't find this to be a problem and was able to read it as a standalone quite easily, although I now need to read the first book as well!
I enjoyed the story and found that it wasn't the fluffy story I was expecting it deals with some heavier real life problems and deals with them well.
Highly recommend!
“Rosie feels like there's something missing in her life. She loves her job as the manager of Willowdale Hall Riding Stables, caring for the horses and teaching children to ride, and she loves the home she shares with her mother in the beautiful Lake District. But she can't help wondering how her life might look if things had been different. What if her father had been around to help care for her mother? And what if she'd found someone special herself?”
After reading the first book in the ‘Escape to the Lakes’ series ‘The Start of Something Wonderful’, I couldn’t wait for this next one and ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’ is nothing short of fantastic once again.
Usually, I’m not the biggest fan of time jumps/flash backs to the past, but Jessica Redland did a great job of it in this book and it actually helped really well in portraying Oliver and give more insights into Rosie’s life as well.
There were a few moments where I didn’t particularly liked how Rosy internally reacted to situations, but in the grand scheme of things, her being bullied for years and the situation with her Mam would have ‘made’ her feel this way.
This was my 11th book by Jessica Redland and (very unsurprisingly) loved it! The massive cliffhanger was a bit annoying, but I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
This is a welcome return to the Lake District, Willowdale Hall and some of the characters from a previous book “The start of something wonderful”.
This is Rosie’s story. Rosie has looked after her Mum since her accident and taken on the management of Willowdale Hall Riding Stables without complaint. Now, in her late 30’s, she feels as though she is missing out on life and even missing out on knowing who her father was.
There are many strands to this story and they draw the reader into the wonderful scenery of the Lake District and the life’s of some of the residents. This is a story which wraps you up and will not let go until the last page has been read…….so be warned!
A lovely story focusing around Rosie, her Mam who is struggling emotionally to get over an accident and her lovely dog toffee. Rosie's landlord passes away and his son is taking over the estate she works/lives in wanting to sell it off. Brilliant supportive friends, an beautifully described setting and romance, a wonderful story.
