This is the second book in the Lakes series and there are some familiar characters in it.
This time the story is about Rosie and her mum, Alice. Rosie runs the stables at Willowdale Hall and lives with her mum, who suffers from PTSD.
This book was a little slower than Jessica Redland's books usually are. There is also a cliffhanger at the end so be prepared to feel frustrated!

I've loved all of Jessica's books but was disappointed with this one at first. The beginning was slow and a bit boring. It definitely picked up around 60% though! There is a cliffhanger ending so now I'm anxiously awaiting book 3.

Having absolutely loved the first instalment of this authors new series I couldn’t wait to read this one as this is also one of my favourite authors of all time. This series gives me so much joy as it combines my love of the Lake District and Beatrix potter along with a fabulous storyline.

This could be read as a standalone but highly recommend reading the first instalment first to get the full enjoyment. This story focuses more on the character of Rosie who we met briefly in the first book as being the friend of the main character autumn. The author covers sone difficult and relatable issues in a a very sensitive way and brings them out to the forefront.

I can’t wait for the next instalment of this series particularly as it ended on such a cliff hanger.

Rosie's mother was in a bad accident and is suffering from PTSD. Rosie and her mother run the horse arena and live in a cottage on the estate. Rosie had a childhood crush on the owner of the estate, he hasn't been around for years ... but when his father has an accident he is back on the scene.

When i requested the advance read copy of A Breath of Fresh Air, I did not realize that it was #2 in a series. This is not the final book in the series.
This book ends with a cliff hanger to draw you into the next book in the series.

Honestly ... I didn't feel like i had missed anything by starting with the second book in the series. Honestly ... I really try to avoid series. Honestly ... I'm probably not going to continue with the series

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books (the publisher) for approving my request to read the advance read copy of A Breath of Fresh Air in exchange for an honest review.

This book is definitely going to continue the back story of Jessica Redland's previous Lakes book The Start of Something Wonderful but enough information is given that you could read it as a standalone book perfectly adequately. It ends with one of Jessica's trademark shock cliffhangers so certainly leads on to another book following too which I always love about these books.
The relationship between Rosie and her "Mam", Alice, was always intriguing and certainly complex when I read the previous book so to dive in to this further in this story was compelling reading. At times I must admit I found Alice's behaviour to Rosie quite unsettling, understandably she has a complex mental health condition, but the sulking, avoidant behaviour and keeping secrets was hurtful and harming to Rosie and I felt quite a visceral reaction to that though further on in the story there's more of a satisfying development that felt right. It may have been uncomfortable reading, but it was very reflective of the complicated mother/daughter relationships that exist in real life that is perhaps not covered quite as honestly enough in romantic fiction.
I also failed to warm completely to Oliver, his transition just felt sudden and not entirely developed to me. However, that aside I enjoyed returning to Willowdale and the secrets and challenges revealed in this plot.

Back in the Lakes and Willowdale again. It was a great joy to read. I love the relationship that Rosie and her mum have, as my children get older and I desperately try to stop them leaving home I’m more and more fascinated about adult parent child relationships where they can happily coexist together.

Rosie and Oliver were a great couple and to be honest did take me a while to decide if I liked him and wanted them to be together as Rosie told us more of her childhood back story through flashbacks. Then Oliver gets to tell us his story and my heart went out to him.

Rosie is strong enough and confident enough to able to know what she wants and to tell Oliver what she needs and expects. I really liked how Oliver listened and respected what she said and then stepped up and gave it to her. The added family twists for them both kept it engaging and I couldn’t wait to read Oliver’s mums diaries to find out who ‘C’ was. And then that cliffhanger! So cruel, I can’t wait to know what they know.

We are back in the Lake District in this wonderful story. This instalment focuses on Rosie who lives with and helps her mam. Rosie lives in Willowdale Hall Estate and manages the stables there. An event causes an old friend to come back to Willowdale Hall but can Rosie also face the past?

I absolutely loved going back to Willowdale Hall and being back with Rosie and Autumn who is Rosie’s best friend. I enjoyed hearing about all the horses and the dogs on the estate too.

Jessica gave us an insight into what happens in the past too which added a lot of depth to the story. I always know that I’m going to be engrossed in any book by Jessica. I adore the friendship between Rosie and Autumn and also the relationship between Rosie and her mam too. I love the way Jessica used the term mam instead of mum as that’s what I say being from the north!

Reading ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’ made me feel happy and made me feel all fuzzy inside by the time I turned the last page.

I can’t wait to read more of Jessica’s books in the future ♥️

Thank you to Boldwood Books for an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley.

No this is not for me I’m afraid. A cast of thousands, and a really unpleasant hero. Not only is it slow, it ends on a cliff hanger! How frustrating is that?

I know this is an extremely popular author, so I think this is just me -simply not my cup of tea.

I am a massive Jessica Redland and I have struggled how to review this. It is a second in a series. Set in the beautiful Lake District . You follow Rosie’s story. You get flash backs, lord of the manor, real bullies , old love re kindled. Jessica covers PTS very well. Learning about what the green man meant finally made sense . People are cruel. The ending is one of my personal pet hates. I have thought a lot about how to review this but it gets 5 stars as it is not Jessica’s fault I like my endings very neat.

This book took me on some twisty curves. There were so many unburied secrets. I really liked the characters . They all had a lot of depth to them. The author does a wonderful job at describing scenery. I felt as though I was walking around outside with Rosie. The prologue left quite a cliffhanger and I can’t wait for the next book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through Net Galley.

Oh my gosh.... This was a brilliant, amazing and wonderful book.
The characters are wonderful....
Yes about halfway through I wanted to bang Rosie's and Oliver's heads together but all works out in the end.
I really really didn't want it to finish I really hope there's more in this series.

Loved it! So nice to be back in the village of Willowdale. There's something about Jessica Redland's books. I always fall in love with the characters and feel like I'm part of their life. I want to live there and be best friends with Autumn and Rosie. I knew his Lordship was hiding secrets and there was a reason he didn't want anyone on the estate. I wasn't surprised at all with the discovery of the boathouse. The more I learned about Hubert Cranleigh, the more I disliked him. He was a horrible father, I can understand why Oliver never wanted to return. Alice and Rosie are too co-dependent. It's ridiculous that Alice never wanted to tell Rosie about her father and kept his identity a secret for so long. Hated the ending (not really)!!! Why did it have to end on such a cliffhanger??? I was ready to finally learn the truth about everything. My guess is that C is the science teacher. It's just a suspicion. Now I definitely know there will be more books about Autumn and Rosie. It took me awhile to warm up to Oliver. It was a beautiful story about friendship, forgiveness, love and so much more.

Definitely recommend the book. Loved the characters, story and writing style. I can't wait until the next book and for C's identity to be revealed. Look forward to reading more books by the author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Boldwood Books through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Does Jessica Redlands ever disappoint. If she’s writing I’m reading. another beautifully sweet cute love story which I really enjoyed. I loved the characters they are likeable relateable sweet happy full of love. Set in one of my favourite places which I always find so magical. It’s such a prefect setting. Oliver and Rosie were just adorable so heartwarming. I read this book on a cold windy night and it was perfect.

This one was an interesting read, but it was actually quite slow. I didn’t think it became fun to read until the 60% mark.

I actually was not a fan of Oliver for a good chunk of the book. Not only was he rude as an adult, but he was a snotty kid and teenager. I could not imaging treating someone the way he did, especially if that person was my best friend when I was a little kid.

A big issue I had with this one was the huge amount of characters we have. I felt like so many were thrown at me. I’m thinking some of these were from other books by the author, so maybe if you’ve read her stuff before you can keep them straight. As a new reader I was often confused who was who.

I also did not feel the chemistry between Oliver and Rosie. They just love each other but the whole time as children, teens, and adults Oliver is just plain mean. Even when they explore their attraction as adults I did not believe it. Oliver is just very flat with next to no emotion except anger.

I did like how this book portrayed mental health awareness. Rosie’s mom has PTSD, and I think this was explored very well in this book.

My other favorite part was the flashbacks. I thought this worked, and the book would have been very boring and hard to grasp without them.

Please note, there is a cliffhanger at the end.

A breath of fresh air is a well named novel. In this story the reader follows Rosie. The young woman is devoted to her mom who is sick since she had an accident. But, when their boss die, their life is changing.
I really appreciate this story which is simple but effective. There is no surprise in this reading but it works.
I like the main character because she is very sensitive and empathetic. Her duet with her mom is very touching.
I also appreciate the writing style of the author. I like the humor that she uses during all the novel.
This reading is very refreshing and entertaining.

I was so excited to read this book. More wonderful characters and the descriptions of the Lake District, especially of the area around Keswick and Catbellls in particular were amazing. The difficult topic of PTSD was handled sensitively while not overpowering a beautiful, romance. I'll leave you to make your own mind up about the ending.

I will start this review by saying what I always think when I start a Jessica Redland book: that this book will be great, it just depends on the level of greatness. And so far, the books that I have read have been nothing short of 5 star. And this includes the first book in the 'Escape to the Lakes' series.

The communities that Jessica always manages to create are just perfect. And this is definitely one I'd happily live in. It's not too isolated, but it's not a huge space. This means all the characters know each other and you get this warmth. It does help that the Lake District is one of my favourite places in the world. It is beautiful and has this magic that Jessica has captured so well.

Overall, it is a loving, warming, cosy, light, easy-to-read book. But she hasn't shied away from including some difficult topics, such as trauma, PTSD, relationship struggles, bullying, broken families, injuries, death, single parenthood etc. This sounds like it might have been too morbid, but it's not. These aren't things that take over the main storyline, but they help add a sense of realism to them, as everyone goes through some difficult things, whether fictional or real. And it then helps the positive bits sing even more.

I love the focus on animals in this book - horses and dogs. It is lovely and really shows how animals become part of our family and how they can really save people. They're more than 'just' working animals, they're a friend and they support you all the way, and they have this sixth sense that tells them when you need them more, and that's captured well.

Autumn was the main character in the first book, with Rosie as a secondary character, but this one has flipped that round. We see Rosie as our protagonist and she's as fabulous a creation as Autumn was. That's what I particularly love about Jessica's books. If they're in a series, all the characters relate. It doesn't matter who is the main character, the support, or the villain - they're all there and they all pop up in each other's stories, which helps that sense of community and security I get when I read her books. It also teases potential storylines for future books as we meet some of the secondary characters.

From what I can gather online, I think she's written 22 novels (including this one - Jessica please correct me if I'm wrong), and I've read 12 of them, and each one is as stupendous as the one before and the one following. I am never worried when I begin a Jessica Redland book. I never worry about not liking it or wondering whether to stop reading it. I know I'll love it, time after time. She's my comfort author who creates cosy, warming, beautiful, emotional, difficult, happy, comforting, and real stories.

I received this book from Net Galley as an ARC and let me tell you, this author did such an amazing job with this book, in all honesty she worked some magic. This book was both interesting and captivating to the fullest. This was my first book by Jessica Redland and l absolutely loved every minute of it, l'll be sure to check some of her work as well. I have no doubt her books are just as great as this one. Oliver and Rosie made me laugh and swoon over them. This book truly took me in a heart-warming ride that l very much enjoyed. Oliver was every bit brooding and distant and at the same time l fell with him because he was a softy at heart. My heart hurt for what Mam and Oliver had to go through but in the end they do find their happiness. The ending did leave me wanting more and while l do not want to spoil it for anyone l will leave it at that ;).

A story about second chances and family. There is a storyline revolving around PTSD as well. I enjoyed the characters and romance.
