A good follow up to Megan’s first book and nice to see that the main characters from that appeared in this one too. Good characters in this one and I enjoyed the storyline.
The story in emojis: 🛡️⚔️💕
My Top 3 things from this book:
•Bobble
•LARPing
•Tower of London setting
This is a really sweet story and although it has romance in it, there was so much more story to it with friends, family and life experiences.
I really enjoyed the Tower of London setting and trying to visualise each part as it was described. I also enjoyed the LARPing, as it was a bit unusual!
Of course my favourite character was Bobble, I wish we had had more of her. She was a unique and special person and sounded just like a friend you would want to have.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2
Every time I picked up "Love at First Knight", I was whisked away!
I enjoyed Ms. Clawson's previous novel "Falling Hard for the Royal Guard", and was very excited to read this book as soon as I heard about it! I also think the title of this novel is so clever as well!
Oh my goodness! Daisy and Teddy's enemies-t0-lovers romance will have you turning the pages to see what happens next. There is growth, banter, wit, and love. And the Tower of London is a character in its own right too!
This book truly has so much in it: anxiety representation, romance, family, royalty, surprises, and so, so much more.
Some parts of this novel didn't have the smoothest transitions, but, even with this said, I still really enjoyed this book!
If you enjoy Romance, I highly recommend this book! I look forward to reading what Megan Clawson writes next!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the ARC of this novel, it is fantastic! All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
It was cute, but some things didn't add up or make sense. Hiring someone to work with kids that has little experience and then leaving them alone?
Although Daisy was frequently frustrating and Teddy was weirdly hot and cold, this was still an eminently readable book that prompted me to seek out Clawson's other book, Falling Hard for the Royal Guard.
This book is from the same author as 'Falling Hard for the Royal Guard' which was another great book. I like that Megan Clawson is continuing with a similar theme as it is quite niche. Its a very easy book to follow and I'm looking forward to the authors next novel.
Thank you NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC
What a lovely read! It was a great enemies to Lovers book. I also enjoyed how there were interesting subplots that were not about romance. I normally am all about the romance, the build up, and the tension. This book had an interesting family dynamic and friends that all kept me interested as the main character continued on her journey. If you're looking for an easy read that will have you smiling often this is it!
I truly tried to love this book as I enjoy anxiety represented in books and would love to see more of that. And I have given it the stars for that. I liked it at first but it did fall short for me. The cover did immediately grab my attention as well as the synopsis and would still love to see more contemporary fiction especially in YA with mental health rep.
This was overall such a fun read! I loved the commentary around internet dating. Glad I had the opportunity to check it out.
I loved reading this book, which followed Daisy, an anxious young woman working in her father’s hobby/geek shop and participating in LARP battles with her family, where she became an elven noble alter ego. She would adopt this character whenever feeling anxious, to give her a bit of emotional strength, and this was definitely needed when she got a job in London, where she would be training children to ‘become knights’ in a knight school experience. Once there, she meets Teddy Fairfax, a bit of a disgraced royal looking to clear up his image, but his attempt to get out of his new job begins to put Daisy’s position at risk. I thoroughly enjoyed this read, and really related to Daisy as an anxious, neurodivergent person. The supporting characters were also amazing and I can’t wait to read more by this author as I didn’t want this book to end! I was really pleased with how the story ended and would definitely recommend it to any romance fans.
The cover was captivating to look at. It was fun rom com. It had moments that made me laugh and made me feel things. The romance was a bit off at times but , overall, a fun read.
I knew I had to read this book after reading Megan’s first book Falling Hard for the Royal Guard
This book was a fun rom com. I loved the family feel of Daisy’s family and community.
I also love the Royal family and this book gives lots of Royal vibes!
There were some laugh out loud moments and some moments that made me sad
I can’t wait to see what Megan has in store next!!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I have given Love at First Knight by Megan Clawson three out of five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really wanted to like this book more than I did but sadly, it didn’t tick all of the boxes for me.
Our main character, Daisy, was an interesting character who loves LARPing and stereotypical geeky things. I loved her relationship with her family, they’re so close and really care for one another. I thought the author wrote about how Daisy deals with anxiety very well and how she stop's outside of her comfort zone by being her LARPing alter ego: Lady A.
I wasn’t a huge lover of the romance but I think that might have something to do with finishing the majority of this book by listening to the audiobook and I wasn’t very keen on the narrator’s voice for the characters dialogue. One thing that I really liked was Daisy’s first couple of interactions with our love interest, it made me chuckle deeply when we found out who the love interest was. I thought the romance would’ve been more enjoyable if there was more of a build up to it as it felt as though one moment they hated each other and the next, I clicked my fingers and they had feelings for each other.
I would’ve preferred to see some of the loose ends tied up to complete the questions I had whirling around in my head to be answered but all in all I really liked the idea of the concept of this book and enjoyed the geeky side Megan Clawson brought to this book.
When this book first started i enjoyed it, however my interest seem to fade the more it went on.
It just didn’t hit the spot for me.
Was a good read, with good characters just not for
Me
The download date was unfortunately missed, I would be happy to re-review it if it became available again. I have awarded stars for the book cover and description as they both appeal to me. I would be more than happy to re-read and review if a download becomes available. Surprisingly, I could not relate to any character in this book. The premise was a very interesting coming of age tale that I would recommend picking up if the ren-faire/LARP setting intrigues you.
ARC provided by Publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I would like to thank Avon Books and NetGalley for sending me a copy of this ARC. I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of Megan Clawson's debut last winter, and it made me miss London so much. getting to revisit her world and this beautiful city again through her sequel was a wonderful surprise.
To be honest the story started off slow. Daisy our main character is in her small little hometown, prepping for this big LARPing festival, and with that not being something I knew anything about I felt falsely dragging through the pages. When her dad forces her hand, and applies to a position as a summer camp instructor to train children to be knights, her world opens up, and us as a reader get to see all of the intricacies of who she is as a person.
As someone who is neurodivergent, seeing her talk about her fears and having to "become someone else" to convince herself to be brave, I really resonated with her and her strength. I've told myself so many times that I have worn so many masks that I'm not sure what is me and what is a mask, I loved seeing all of the characters remind her that the strong persona she has of herself is still her, even if she gives it another name. Its a reminder that these fragments of me are still me and that rather than picking and choosing the pieces of myself to love, I should love the whole that they create.
I adore Daisy as a character with my entire heart and I just want to protect her and help her realize just how brave she is. Also we will always support and uplift nerds on this side of the internet
Now for the romance--If you've read any of my reviews, or have seen my typical TBR choices, you know im a enemies-to-lovers bitch through and through. Theo/Teddy has one goal, and t hat is to make his self irredeemable in the eyes of his uncle, the King. He is brash and arrogant, and Daisy not knowing who he is and treating him like he's nothing special instantly has him enthralled in her.
That said I adore this man and his antics. Did he get Daisy fired? Yes. Do I still love him? Yes. Literally zero complaints about this man. Okay, I lied, maybe one. Theo, sweetie, there is this little thing called communication, and if you were just honest with our girl instead of talking shit about her to the royals, you would've saved everyone a lot of angst and heartbreak.
It was fun to see a couple familiar characters pop up, and I would kill to see the double date between Maggie, Daisy, Freddie and Theo. Especially after Daisy's little accidental adventure into voyeurisms.
I think this sequel gave me everything I loved from Clawson's first book, and more. She has absolutely become and instant buy author for me, and I cannot wait for her to drag me to the Tower of London again.
An interesting nerdy love story. The concept was cool and character development was great. However, the romance fell short for me.
2.5 🌟
Thank you to netgalley for an arc of this book!
The more this book went on the more meh I felt about it unfortunately. I was really interested initially, I really liked Daisy and her struggle in herself and wanting to do more by going to London. I loved the setting being at the tower and her running the Knights summer programme. And where Daisy ended up in the end growing in her confidence, and being more happy with being herself. I guess it was just Teddy that kind of let me down.
Again, being interested in the beginning their banter was great and could definitely see this being a great enemies to lovers. I just don’t really get where they changed to lovers 😂. Like it seemed like they were teasing, he kissed her and then ignored her, then she got fired, then he turns up at her house giving a big declaration and then eventually tells her he loves her? All within such a short period of time I just. I don’t get where it happened. I would’ve really liked it if there was a bit more build up and more scenes of them actually changing their relationship together.
I guess I also expected to see more of Sam, I felt like he would be quite a big character and he was very much a side one. I feel like if he was in London too the story would’ve been more interesting.
Yeah overall, not one I hate by any means just one that I felt could’ve been developed more.
I wasn't sure what to expect of this book at first - it is quite different to any other I have read and is a unique genre, but in the end I found it engaging, moving and heart-warming. The main character's thoughts and feelings are well expressed.
