WOW! What a roller coaster of a read! From the very start all the way to the very end, the pace of this book is relentless which enabled me to devour this in one sitting. It contained hints to so many of my favourite films which added to my reading enjoyment. I loved the sense of tension and jeopardy which ran through the book and felt complete empathy for the group of main characters. I can't wait to share this with our UKS2 children and see where their imaginations would take them too.

An excellent story for all kids yearning for adventure. The Black hole cinema seemingly pulls 5 friends into the movies and catapults them into a series of deadly situations which they needs to get themselves out of before time runs out.
With nods to a number of great escapades the book covers a wide territory from space to the depths of the ocean and the frenzied pace is retained throughout.

A gem of an adventure for anyone who loves cinema. Black Hole Cinema Club has the Christopher Edge hallmarks of edge of seat adventure coupled with a captivating mystery that keeps you thinking long after you close the book. Packed with great characters and a strong theme of friendship, this is a must for anyone who has anyone who has ever wondered what it would be like to star in the films they are watching.

Thank you to Christopher Edge, Nosy Crow and NetGalley for the chance to read this ARC, in exchange for an honest review. The Black Hole Cinema Club is not your average trip to the cinema, especially when the film you were expecting to see literally transports you to adventure. This book is amazing, it’s a brilliant mix of sci-fi, nostalgia and adventure. Christopher Edge’s is sublime. It’s fun, high stakes, working together brilliance.

Black hole cinema club is a good quick read, I would say definitely better for a younger audience.
5 friends go to the cinema in anticipation of what films they are about to watch- different movie marathons on each time but you don't know what u til you sit in the seats. The friends find they are about to experience 4di - a completely immersive cinema experience.
They find themselves the stars of the movies themselves and that they have to save the world time and time again.
Overall an enjoyable read.

Very exciting, very fast paced, and I was not expecting this storyline at all! Very original!

My one thing I take away is that this is very focused on the plot, and we don’t get to know the characters at all, which I was surprised about. Overall though, great book!

My thanks to Netgalley and Nosy Crow for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you very much for the opportunity to read this review copy of the novel. I loved this book, it was just what I needed to kick-start my reading again.
The title and description was what made me initially intrigued, as I have always been a film buff for a number of years and have frequented the cinema myself. I loved seeing all the film references in the book, especially the Marvel/Disney ones, it brought me back to when I watched the movies growing up in cinemas.

I loved the book and would recommend to read it once it releases !

Christopher Edge is best known for his novel, "Escape Room". This one is a Sci-Fi story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. One day, a teenager and his friends went into a cinema the locals have nicknamed as the "Black Hole Cinema". Expecting to sit back and enjoy a marathon of cinematic delights, they found themselves swept away by darkness. They have to go through various adventures in order to save the world.

The story is gripping and the writing is impeccable. Get it when it is out. Or you might regret it.

Black hole Cinmea club is my first Christopher Edge book, and it didn't disappoint. It's a very fast paced book that hooked me from the minute the lights go down in the 'black hole cinema.'

I'm sure Christopher Edge fans will not be disappointed.

Black Hole Cinema Club - another thrill a minute story from Christopher Edge.

I read this in advance of reading with a Year 6 class and loved it!

Lucas, Finn, Ash, Caitlin and Maya are sat in the cinema, ready for their 4Di all day movie marathon.

Within seconds of the lights dimming they are thrust into an adventure that seems very real, not just 4D. Through jungle, lost cities, space, the reader will discover whether the young explorers can save the world or not.

We love Christopher Edge’s novels as they always make us question, think and understand, Black Hole Cinema Club is no different! I certainly can’t wait to share this book when it is published in March 2024.

The first thing that attracted me to this book was the title - what a title! The cover is also very appealing, what could the “Black Hole Cinema Club” possibly be? I have read a couple of Christopher Edge’s books before and know that his stories are always unusual, imaginative and exciting and this one did not disappoint.

In essence, The Black Hole Cinema Club is the name of the local cinema club where 5 kids arrive to attend a movie marathon, as they do regularly. The films are always a surprise. But when the first film starts, they find themselves being plunged into a mysterious blackness and they (and the reader) are left wondering what is going on. I don’t want to say too much more as I think this is a more enjoyable read going in without too much prior information.

The writing is very filmic - appropriately enough. It is really fun moving from one film and genre to the next, there are some really exciting action sequences and everything is fast paced. After a very short section of scene setting at the beginning, the breakneck pace does not let up and I just wanted to keep on reading, so much so that I finished the book in an afternoon.

This book is very engaging, I can see it appealing to kids aged 9 or 10 and over, especially those who like action, science-fiction and mystery. It would make a great class read, I think, because of the episodic nature of the adventures.

My one criticism would be that apart from Lucas, the narrator, the children in the group did not feel very fleshed out as characters. I didn’t feel I got to know anyone except for Lucas, though this is partly a feature of the first-person narration, and maybe also due to the breathless pace of the action, which gives little time for other character perspectives. I think the story would have had more emotional impact if I had got to know each of the group a little better as individuals, but that might have slowed things down too much.

As I read this book, I was wondering what was going on, what was real and what wasn’t and how it would all resolve itself. Without any spoilers, I will just say that the ending was not something I had predicted at all, even as someone who reads a lot of science-fiction. The ending is also one that could lead to really interesting discussions in a class after the book is finished.

Five teens get sucked into a new experiential version of films where the 'viewer' feels like they are part of the film.
We follow them through a number of different films with each of them taking a lead role in one.
It felt a bit episodic and disjointed for a quite a while as the plot jumped from a glacial landscape to the ocean to the jungle ... but it did eventually come together as we found out what was actually happening.
I think this will appeal to teens who love film and gaming. As an adult I found the ending somewhat unsatisfying but I think teens will be very happy at the end point.
There are some scientific explanations in the course of the story which would merit some follow up for those so inclined to see how accurate they are.

Wonderful book, highly recommend. The plot has you guessing all the way through. This is a classic Christopher Edge. If you have readers looking for a challenge but want to do it in a laid back way, this is the book for them. Christopher's books were always a solid go to as a school librarian, and now as a bookseller I'm glad to be able to stock his books. Unique author with unique tone with unique endings. How often can you say that in children's literature.

When Lucas, Ash, Maya, Caitlin and Finn meet at their local cinema for a movie marathon they get more than they bargained for. No sooner have they settled down, than they are sucked into the screen by a great tsunami of blackness. Lucas finds himself in an icy nightmare inside a glacier being pursued by a giant of a man. He quickly comes to realise that this is truly the immersive cinema experience - this is 4Di where you feel like you are living the film. From this glacial horror he finds himself on a ship before the friends take flight in a submarine, with the Leviathan hot in pursuit. From one terrifying scenario to another, the five friends find themselves battling to save the world. Will they succeed? Or will it all be over?
This is an exciting adventurous read for Year 6 children that will keep them on the edge of the seats right up to the last page.

This was a wild ride of film, love of the cinema, sci-fi brilliance and quintessential Christopher Edge. Honestly, this is so fast-paced and gripping that I read it in 2 sittings - it’s been a while since I did that! Brilliantly done… Y5 and 6 are gonna love this!

The cinema is a great place to go to when you want to be transported elsewhere. But Lucas and his friends are not expecting to be literally swept away when a visit to the local movie theatre, aka The Black Hole, results in a tidal wave coming out of the screen and sweeping the lot of them off to exotic locations and unexpected adventures.

Maya, Caitlin, Finn, Ash and Lucas are initially excited to be part of a story that - among other things - involves prehistoric creatures and lost locales. Unfortunately, they are not prepared for the degree of danger that comes with their travels!

This is an entertaining and fast-moving story that provides plenty of excitement for young readers. It offers an unusual and wildly imaginative ride in the form of a movie experience quite different from any other...I give it 3.5 stars.
