Interesting take on Arthurian legend. I liked the different groups fighting to get to Merlin's reincarnation first, and the action was exciting (sometimes). The art was hit or miss and some parts didn't flow well. I liked the reveal at the end.

Stunning artwork and a well-considered plot, with likeable characters overall. I found the first half really intriguing and it drew me in, but somewhere towards the middle I started to gel less with the plot. Yes, it's very religion and politics-of-the-time heavy, but I didn't mind that too much. The art reminded me of The Last Kingdom which is a favourite TV show of mine. I think where it started to lose me was when a story about a woman was overshadowed by men and a male child. Perhaps this was a mismatch in expectations due to the cover and description. I wanted more Eigyr as a person.

But overall, a pleasant and engaging read with lots of fun parts and beautiful artworks in a snowy landscape.

This was not for me, though I can see many really enjoying it. I found myself quickly distracted by the art style which took me away from the story. This is so frustrating because the plot is my kind of story! I mean who doesn't love a story about Merlin being reincarnated?! It's a pretty serious, action packed read, which is awesome but again I found myself not being able to stay focused with the art style. Landscape shots - gorgeous, close ups were really distracting, felt like a weird paint by number and kinda made me cringe at each character.

I would still recommend this to readers since the story itself was cool!

Thank you NetGallery, the publishers, and the authors for letting me review this!

This book is by far one of the best graphic novels I've yet to read.
The story, arch and historical aspects and lingo are fascinating. It's got quite the intricate plot and various points of view, and watching the loose ends ție themselves is just all the more rewarding.
What a superb and original take on a well loved mythical universe.

Beautifully rendered, very well-paced and never dragging, with a twist at the end that I didn't see coming.

A pretty poor quasi Arthurian prequel that doesn’t bother itself with originality, a decent story, or art.

I want to thank netgalley for this advanced Arc of this graphic novel, and also say that all thoughts and opinions in this review are all my own.

When I saw the cover I thought the art work was beautiful and throughout the book the art captivated me showing so much in each scene. I have loved anything to do with history especially merlin & reading this was a great story about faith & how that can make u do some horrible things in the name of that faith thinking your in the right, with also showing how strong the human spirit is in times of heartbreak and hardship. I do see this as a good graphic novel to show a different interpretation of the legend of merlin... I will definitely be buying this when it comes out

This graphic novel was a beautiful look at Dark Ages Britain and an intriguing entry into Arthurian storytelling and lore. I appreciated how stunning the artwork was, and the insight into the varying peoples--Saxon, Pictish, Celtic, Pagan and Christian--occupying Britain at the time was fascinating. I did find it a little difficult at times to keep the varying groups of people straight, especially when they were all interacting, but other than that, I enjoyed reading this title and would read more by the author and illustrator.

I really liked this moving graphic novel. The art is very beautiful and the story is very entertaining.
Merlin has fallen. But he's prophesied to return again... well to be born again. And Eigyr is said to carry said wizard. If she'll stay alive...
Beause the whole island seems to hunt her cause they want to stop the wizard from being born again.

I have not read Five Star book in a very long time, but this just hit me out of nowhere and give me all the feels it was fun. It was fighting. It had a good plot line and storyline and the characters are cool and I loved the art style it wasn’t too heavy on words, and I just generally love the flow of this book. I want 100% recommend and I also love the colour scheme. It just was everything I wanted in a graphic novel and more it was sad it was gripping and I would reccomend it going forward.

EIGYR is a riveting graphic novel of Historical Fiction set in the tumultuous 5th century in Britain, where Wizard Merlin has passed, regional tribes battle for control of the island, and a pervasive rumor of Merlin's future reincarnation as a newborn incites a wave of infanticide similar to that instituted by King Herod. Eigyr is the expectant mother determined, at the cost of her own life, to protect at all costs the new life she carries.
