Solid domestic thriller - knowing that sometimes domestic thrillers are kinda predictable, but still a fun ride. Mom, doctor Kate, handsome husband pilot Mark and a precious babe. A mom/grandma who is helpful, but a little bit needy and, of course, the helpful, beautiful, seemingly amazing stranger who you immediately accept into your world. Of course.

On audio the narration was absolutely spot on. Gabrielle Nellis-Pain is new to me, but she is clearly born to narrate books.

My Husbands Lies by Liz Lawler is a twisty psychological thriller that kept my attention and had me guessing till the end. There was a lot of back and forth about who was the good guy and who wasn't which kept the story fresh and interesting. There are some crazy people in the world and this story made good use of them. Recommended for twisty mystery fun.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My Husband's Lies by Liz Lawler, an audiobook narrated by Gabrielle Nellis-Pain was a gripping psychological thriller with unexpected twists. I would say it was a fantastic book but from time to time I had some conflicting feelings and some activities were a little unlogical but the way it was twisted and how it ended I am happy to give 5 stars!

Kate and Mark are such a perfect family. She is a doctor, he is a pilot, they have a gorgeous 5-year-old son and Kate's mother is there to help. Everything is perfect until it is not! Mark will be arrested and Kate will need to understand - what the hell is going on? Someone is dead and someone is a kiIIer, but who? Help is around but who she can trust?

Gabrielle Nellis-Pain was perfect for this book! Her voice fit the characters and it was easy to concentrate on the story!

This book is about trust, betrayal, friendship, lies, loss, and forgiveness. There is everything!

Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this amazing book!

Thanks to NetGalley for the arc!
This story ended up being good, it started slow for me and took a little while to get my attention. I had some trouble keeping the multiple characters straight for awhile, but ended up getting it. Towards the end the pace was great as little bits and pieces were given. Overall, I did enjoy this book.

I absolutely loved that this one went in a completely unexpected direction. The blurb about this essentially says that a doctor's husband is accused of murder and then is attacked himself, and she struggles to uncover the truth. That's true.... but there's so much more to this story! I was enjoying the book for the first half but then it takes a big turn and I couldn't put it down. It's difficult to describe without spoilers but I can't wait to read more from this author!

I want to start by saying thank you to Net Galley and Bookouture Audio for approving my request to listen to "My Husband's Lies" by Liz Lawler, narrated by Gabrielle Nellis-Pain.

Summary:
This story is told from the POV of Kate; she's an ER doctor and is married to Mark, a pilot, with whom they have a son Jacob. Around the time Mark returns home from a flight to Barcelona, Kate is informed that a young woman within the flight field was murdered. Mark denies any involvement and refuses to talk about it, which is awfully suspicious. Several days later, Mark is in an accident and placed in a medically induced coma. With everything going on, a colleague of Mark, named Olivia, offers to help Kate take care of her child and home, Kate accepts. With Olivia moved in, Kate takes time off work to fly to Barcelona to see if she can find truth in what happened to the young woman that was murdered. When she returns, she comes home to a very comfortable Olivia...she's moved furniture, borrowed Kate's clothes, gave her son a nickname, and it's all very unsettling...

Reaction:
This was a fast-paced read and each chapter ended on a little cliffhanger, which made me want to keep listening. While I think that Kate is an intelligent and strong character, I couldn't believe that she was so willing to accept help from a complete stranger! With that aside, I did enjoy the story and how the book ended.

Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this advance copy in exchange for my review.

This was my first book of Liz's and it will 100% not be the last. Actually, I'm going to start Don't Wake Up immediately.
I really think this was the perfect domestic thriller. It was twisty but without twists just being thrown in for the sake of twists, the right amount of red-herrings and a very likeable MC. Everything was wrapped up perfectly at the end with no plot holes left along the way.
Slightly off-topic but I absolutely loved Liz's inspiration behind the book that she mentioned in the acknowledgements.

🎧📖 note: Gabrielle Nellis-Pain did an incredible job narrating this story, and I will 100% seek out other books she's narrated.

Oooh this was such a well woven web of deceit. What I loved about it was at its centre was not evil nor malice, but love and a desire to protect people. Fantastic listen!

My Husband’s Lies
Liz Lawl
Several years ago when Kate was having car problems Robert offered to help her. Mark was getting tired of waiting for him, so he jumped in and fixed the car. Mark and Kate fell in love, married and had a child. While Robert loved Kate, she had eyes only for Mark. Kate is an ER doctor and Mark is a pilot. Recently he was in Barcelona, where a young woman was murdered, the police suspect him. Mark swears he had nothing to do with the murder; she was just a colleague. Kate isn’t sure what to believe; she knows Mark has not been totally honest with her. Mark is hit by a car leaving him with a brain injury. The doctors place him in a coma. The police question whether he was hit by a car or whether he purposely placed himself in danger because he felt guilty. Kate is beside herself; she needs to take care of her son, sit by her husband’s bedside and try to find the truth. Robert brings her flowers along with a co-worker who offers to help. She moves in, takes care of Kate’s son, cooks, cleans, decorates and takes “care” of everything. What appears to be a Godsend turns into a nightmare.
This is an exciting, fast paced read. Kate is an incredibly strong character and yet I could not understand why she allowed a stranger to take over her son, her home, and her life. The stranger was redecorating Kate’s home without permission; the stranger was taking over Kate’s son; she changed his nickname. Kate entrusted her son to a stranger! Kate goes to Barcelona to try to find evidence of her husband’s innocence. Kate was an intelligent doctor and yet she was naïve, in many ways.
The narrator was superb!

Kate is a doctor, she is married to Mark, a pilot, and they have 5 year old son. Mark was in Barcelona and someone is murdered. He gets accused of this murder. The victim is a former coworker and was fired for stalking his best friend Robert, also a pilot, a year prior. Olivia is a flight attendant who Kate has never met but when Mark is hit by a car and in a coma, she moves into Kate's house to help with her son. (Robert introduced them, and we trust Robert, so I guess we trust Olivia?) Then Kate, who is supposed to be smart, decided to go to Barcelona and try to find her own evidence that Mark is innocent, leaving her kid with someone she knows nothing about. Oh right, Mark won't tell Kate anything about what happened that night. That's not sketchy at all. When she gets back, Mark wakes up and refuses to let her in the hospital to see him. Olivia meanwhile has made herself right at home, rearranging furniture, wearing Kate's clothes, buying things for the house and child and dog. It's just, super realistic and normal that Kate thinks this is all great and she goes back to work and continues to let Olivia watch her child while Mark waits to get arrested. I can't tell you anything else without giving away major plot points, but this was twisty and complex and relatively entertaining, if you can get past your desire to shake Kate repeatedly. I really didn't see the ending coming, and I do enjoy it when that happens in a thriller.

Give it a listen! I dare you.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

Gripping from the first pages and I had high hopes for this book. It did seem to drag in places and I found the main character to be weak, if not naive. Told from the standpoint of the wife Kate, a brilliant doctor, her husband is accused of murder and she begins to believe he is guilty. When “friends” turn up to help her things really go awry. As the twists kept coming, this book took on more of my interest and I eventually enjoyed it. 4 Stars. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the audio version. The comments are my honest opinion.

I struggled with this audio because this story fell flat for me and I could not connect with any of the characters. I had a hard time keeping up and finding myself re-listening to the audio more than once. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my review.

My Husband's Lies by Liz Lawler is a good mystery. It took until the end to figure out who was guilty of murder, which I love. There is a lot going on, but it flows well and held my interest throughout. I deducted a star because I didn't understand some of Kate's actions or thought processes. It's hard to believe that she has the intelligence of being a doctor but is so slow on understanding things that I either questioned or pieced together hours earlier. It is frustrating to want to scream to the main character to "catch up already!" but all you can do is wait.

Gabrielle Nellis-Pain is a really great narrator. I felt that she was Kate with her natural pauses, sighs, etc. She is very enjoyable to listen to.

Thank you to Bookouture Audio for providing me with an ALC.

Title: My Husband’s Lie
Author: Liz Lawler
Audiobook Narrator: Gabriella Nellis-Pain
Publisher: Bookouture Audio\\
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Audiobook Release Date: November 20, 2023
My Rating: 3.5 rounded up
Pages 364

The protagonist Kate Jordan is a Doctor and is anxious for her husband Mark to return home from his flight from Barcelona, Spain. He should have been home hours ago. Finally she hears a sound at the front door; however, it is the police.
Mark is wanted in connection with a young woman's death. He says he had nothing to do with it, that the beautiful blonde woman was a colleague, nothing more.
Mark is a respected airline pilot, isn’t a womanizer but a faithful husband and model dad to young five year old Jacob.
(True there was a situation three years ago with Kate’s best friend Sophia who found Mark handsome and threw herself at him! He was so sorry that he allowed something to develop.)

Kate knows it is impossible that he would be involved in murder.
When the police questioned him, he told them he knew her but was in his hotel room the night in question. However the hotel room card key shows he was gone for an hour the evening in question and they believe he is guilty.

Kate goes to Spain to try to prove Mark’s innocent. She wants to find out why Mark left the hotel that night.
Katy continued to be a detective and then a situation happens with their son that sends Kate nearly over the edge.

Kate is a likeable character however I questioned the medical school she attended as I kept yelling at her for being so clueless.

Story ended up better than I expected – although anyone who knows me-knows I am not a fan of the overused f-bomb! So my tolerance level was challenged by these characters.

I read a lot of thriller and have to admit I did laugh at the blurb ~
~ An utterly gripping psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping twist! ~ –
My comment- that isn’t exactly my experienced!

I did enjoyed Ms. Lawler’s letter to readers. She tells readers about a woman she attended as a nurse who was having a panic attack and then tells Liz her story which turned out to be her inspiration for writing this story.

“The police are coming, they are going to arrest me.” What do you do when your husband is being accused of murder. When your whole life is torn upside down!

What a book! So many great twists and turns. A riveting psychological thriller.
So many different stories, what’s a lie and what’s the truth!

I really enjoyed Gabrielle Nellie’s-Pain as the narrator. I have some issues getting into some narrators with accents as I’m from the US, but I had no problem at all listening to her. Really brought me into the story, and felt like I there.

This is my first book by Liz Lawler but it won’t be my last.
