I selected this book from NetGalley, mostly because it was billed as a short story. That said, it didn't feel at all short to me. 😁 At times I didn't think I'd ever finish.. Mostly, it was confusing to me. I kept feeling like I was missing something, akin to coming in at the middle of a movie. I finally scouted around and learned that the main character (the one so valiantly trying to prove her innocence) is a character in a series of books, so had I read previous editions, I'm sure I would have enjoyed it much more.
After years at the top of her legal game, Victoria mounts a campaign to become a US Senator. Days before voting closes, scandal erupts. Blackmail, infidelity, murder, and the unchecked power of a federal judge threaten her campaign, future, and freedom. Victoria hires a well-connected Washington DC lawyer to help navigate the mounting evidence. With only hours to spare, Victoria and her team must untangle the seemingly inevitable verdict about to be handed down against her.
Enjoyed this from start to finish. Really fantastical.
I received an ARC through "NetGalley" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is the first story that I have read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story followed the last few days of a Victoria, a senatorial candidate prior to the election. A news story came out which accused her of tampering with a jury many years ago. It was interesting to see how with little time remaining, they were able to put a team together to learn who planted that false story.
The efforts that everyone performed were well laid out and as time got closer, they narrowed the person down. The ending was well done and filled in open question you might have.
This is definitely worth reading, and I want to read more by this author.
Tangled Verdict is a fast paced political thriller. There is a lot of story in such a short book. I liked it. There is intrigue, a touch of romance, a end of campaign sense of urgency. I like the characters. The last minute crisis adds drama. I confess I stayed up late to finish after starting the book late in the evening. Had to see what happened in the end. Excellent story
Victoria, a lawyer running for senator, finds that at the last minute to her campaign to enter the White House, discovers at the last minute that a judge has filed a case against her for jury corruption.
Who could it be? And why?
When a key individual is found murdered, the race steps up to find out who the true enemy is before the career of this good lawyer is destroyed for good.
This is only a novella of 96 pages, and while the tale is gripping enough, there is only so much that can be fit into what is not much more that a short story. Presumably the point of this novella is, to test the water to find out whether it is, worth writing a longer version?
If so, hopefully a full-length novel will find its trial and juryship soon.
I was hooked from page one with this fast-paced political thriller. The ending was a nail-biter. I would love to read more about Victoria and her future. I received an ARC from NetGalley, and the opinions expressed are my own.
Tangled Verdict: A Victoria Rodessa Legal Thriller is a fast paced political thriller. Yes, it is only 96 pages, but it starts off quickly and builds in intensity until the conclusion.
Victoria Rodessa is running for office to become a US Senator of Illinois. With just a few days before the voting closes, a scandal is revealed. Victoria and her closest advisors shift into high gear to find the culprit before the she loses the election.
This was a fantastic story. I loved the high drama of the campaign mixed with a scandal, murder, and blackmail. With today's political nastiness it is easy to believe. The writing is strong and easy to follow as it grabs a hold of you right from the beginning.
Victoria Rodessa is running for the Senate when she is accused of jury tampering in a trial from years ago by a well known judge which threatens to destroy her reputation and campaign. It’s a quick read and perhaps if I had read some of her other books with this character I wouldn’t have felt it was so lacking. Yes it’s propulsive but it’s over so quickly that it lacks depth and satisfaction. A disappointing read for me.
A short novella in the Victoria Rodessa legal thriller series. These books remind of early John Grisham books.....with a female lead character. As a high powered lawyer in a prominent legal firm, Victoria has climbed the ladder quickly, leaving many enemies in the dust. In TANGLED VERDICT, Victoria has run a campaign to become a US Senator but her enemies have suddenly set her up in a scandal that could cost her everything she's worked for. Victoria has assembled her own legal team to clear her name but the other side doesn't play well with others. A quick read that filled a gap in between books that will keep her fans happy for a short while.
This book was a decent read! It had a bit of everything! It had suspense, Action, intrigue, mystery, great plot twist, and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was interesting and flowed nicely! I recommend reading this book as it was worth reading! it wasn't one of my top favorite but still worth reading!Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
