I was delighted to see the author's bio at the start of the book and to find that Rebecca is a Perth girl like me! I love me some Fremantle!
Warning: Beware of the dog - He will steal your wallet. (!)
Without reading the blurb would you think this book was a parody if I said it had characters named Houdini, Billy the Knuckle, Pork Chop, Zumba the pig farmer, Sir Spud and Pee Wee?
Would you consider it being a grizzly murder mystery if I said that there was 10 ex husbands who met their perilous end in mysterious, exotic and explosive ways?
What about a spy novel if you consider a main character has been all around the world, involved in plots asinister, meeting and charming the locals, always has a quick quip to hand and can mix a mean cocktail?
It is of course a bibliofile's dream come true with characters with seriously DREAM jobs, and with most of the story set in the best bookshop in the world! Honestly, the fact that it is a work of fiction makes me want to cry. Put this lady in charge of running a whole chain of amazing bookshops set in breath taking settings worldwide, STAT!
This book has warm and really human characters with real flaws galore, amazingly funny and witty banter and conversations, ridiculously heartwarming romances and a beautiful community feel.
I loved it! Thank you Rebecca Raisin!! Please write a new book every other week, If you will. :)
Thanks to Netgalley and the author and publisher for a temporary copy in exchange for my honest review.
I was hooked right from the start. Evie is quirky and a little unusual, but also very relatable and unintensionally funny. I loved her! And her Gran... what a breath of fresh air. I'd love to have her feistiness and zest for life and mischief and adventure when I am in my 80s!
The setting of this story is absolutely amazing. I found it hard to understand why Evie would still be looking for a job back in the US when she was living the dream on a Greek island in the sun and in an amazing bookshop with fun and sweet people and dogs all around her. I wish I could swap places with her. Pure escapism! I loved it!
What's not to love about a romcom set in Greece. Think the madcap Greeks you've seen in the likes of 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' and the cute romantic comedy vibes from any 90s romcom movie.
Throw in some cute dogs, a mafioso with a penchant for removing little fingers, a pig farmer, and a donkey owner, and you've got yourself a winning cast.
I loved the talk of Florettas past 9 husbands, I always found myself laughing away.
This has the fake dating trope, and while we all know they are going to fall in love, I still love it when it comes to fruition.
I didn't want to put the book down, I devoured it in 2 sittings.
Any fans of a closed door romcom will love this.
Evie goes to stay with her grandmother in her bookshop on Santorini after losing her job in the states. Her gran has had a number of husbands each dying in strange circumstances. Her gran asks her to fake date gorgeous Georgios to keep the bookshop going. But is it all fake? There’s lots of dogs involved.
I really tried to like this book it’s got everything I like, Greek island, bookshops, love but it just didn’t gel together for me.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have read and enjoyed a lot of books by Rebecca Raisin in the past. I enjoyed this one as much as the others!
What a wonderful, feel good read! After all what's not to love about a bookshop that also has a bar space below it?! This would be a perfect book to read whilst lying on a lounger in the sun (although other locations are available naturally!) , I finished it with a huge smile on my face, a need to visit my local independent bookshop and a longing for the sun to come out.
What more do you need for a lovely rom-com.... the beautiful scenery, a bookshop and a mad plan. It was an absolutely gorgeous story and plotline.
Thank you to netgalley, the author and publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
The absolute perfect beach read!
What a fun story. So atmospheric I feel like I spent a week in Greece. A must read for book lovers!
Sweet and funny with a hint of mystery and suspense. I don't know if I love Evie or Gran more.
But I can relate to Evie on so many levels.
I will definitely be reading more of Rebecca's books they just make my heart happy.
If I wasn't already a fan of Rebecca's, I would have been instantly won over after reading the blurb.
Books, book shops and romance.
What more could I ask for?
Set on the stunning Greek Island of Santorini, our lovely protagonist Evie is sent to check up on her Grandmother who has subsequently just married her 9th husband (impressive) and opened up a Bookshop on the island.
The problem. . .
Evie's Grandmother is unfortunately struggling to pay the rent and her landlord is now threatening to close the Bookshop.
When Evie arrives, the question is could she help save the shop?
I loved this story because it encompassed everything I love about reading.
It was light-hearted, funny and of course the growing romance also helped. Who knew that fake-dating could turn into something more. Although I guess when faced with a specimen like Georgios, you'd be hard-pressed to not fall in love!
The author has a fantastic way of making me feel all the emotions without becoming too serious. Although I will admit, after reading this book I was desperate for a holiday in the sun.
Summer at the Santorini Bookshop is a story that offers sun, sea and happy endings.
This is a book you'll want to add to your summer reading list.
Another great story from Rebecca Raisin. Plenty of larger than life characters to make you laugh out loud. Transported me to sunshine, blue skies, azure sea- perfect escape fro this rainy weather.
This is the story of Evie, a book scout who loses her job. From the off I was so in- talk about losing your dream job! She goes over to Sanantori, Greece to help her grandmother out in a bookshop that is fabulous, quirky and unusual.
I couldn’t have know how different this book could be, its humour was that bit standout, with crazy mafia style things going on. The settings were as stunning as you could get and as I read in the garden in the sun I was utterly transported! Fab to find a book that is as sunny and bright as its beautiful cover! Had heard so much about the author but I’m all in, I’ll be reading more of her books!
You can't beat a book that instils a sense if wanderlust and this delivers. Santorini is a stunning setting but the best thing about this book is the characters, especially Floretta. Thanks to netgalley for the advance copy of this brilliant book.
Just the perfect book to read this summer. Everything from romance, drama, family relationships, books and more books, all set in beautiful Santorini. I enjoyed the crazy dogs adding humour to the story. Such a feel good read
I really enjoyed reading this and not just because Santorini is my favourite Greek island! I absolutely loved Evie's grandma, she was hilarious and her fostered dogs were totally crazy too! all the characters were larger than life and the storyline was really quite bonkers and funny. I will definitely read this again this summer on the beach!!
This is an ideal romcom for a summer holiday read. Mostly set in Santorini, you breathe in the glorious Greek sunshine. It is a light-hearted, fun read with more than one fake friendship going on. Evie's affection for her unconventional grandmother is deep rooted and she feels caught between her mother and sister on the one hand, and her grandmother on the other. Add her family seem to have a headstrong streak and think that they know best. You do hope that Evie can assert her own independence and follow her own path.
There are some larger than life characters in the story. This even extends to the lovable rescue dogs who her grandmother decides to take in. Only Evie and Georgios seem to have a filter and you discover, share some similar character traits. Georgio might look like a stereotypical Greek Adonis, but you soon pick up that there is a quieter, deeper side to his character. For an escapist read, you won't go far wrong with this one!
In short: hot summer days and plenty of humour
Thabks to the publisher for a copy of the book
Another lovely story from Rebecca Raisin, Summer at the Santorini bookshop is the story of Evie who needs a new start and so goes to stay with her grandma. Her grandma doesn't exactly get along with her landlord and so she asks Evie to fake date the grandson of her landlord so that she doesn't lose her bookshop. Evie agrees and ends up having a great adventure, I absolutely loved this story and Gran was a definite highlight for me!
This sounded like a lovely summer read and I wasn't disappointed.
Evie has gone to Santorini to her grandmother’s bookshop as the family are concerned about her after her latest marriage, number 10! Gran is having issues with her landlord so asks Evie to fake date his grandson. This brings all sorts of predicaments.
I loved Evie and Georgios and felt they were both very relatable. The setting of Santorini and the bookshop are lovely with wonderful descriptions. Gran was very quirky, a bit of a handful and provided us with lots of laughs but also some concerns. What a colourful lady.
There are a whole range of other side characters who all brought something different. I really liked Roxy and her friendship with Evie.
This is a lovely well written fake dating story and one I would definitely recommend.
Thank you Rachel's Random Resources, the publisher and Netgalley for my gifted ARC. I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you to HQ stories and NetGalley for the ARC.
This was a 4 ⭐️ read for me. I found it to be a super easy, summery read. It’s set in such a beautiful location with the most incredible sounding bookshop that I so wish was real.
I prefer when stories are written in first person perspective so I’m so glad that this is the chosen narrative for this story – Evie is a really likeable character so I enjoyed reading from her perspective.
Georgios and Evie are a match made in heaven, but, despite them fake dating, we didn’t actually see them together that much, and the moments they were together seemed quite short, and we didn’t get to see much of it. It felt like the bookshop and it being redone took precedence over the romance, which of course isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it would have been nice to have a bit more romance because these two characters had undeniable chemistry.
The six dogs in this book made wonderful side characters, and some of them were quite frankly hilarious and aided some of the comedic moments in this book. Evie’s grandma is a fantastic additional character too – she’s absolutely wild and crazy, but she’s brilliant. I think all of the characters in this book are great, which made the reading experience more enjoyable.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It is the perfect book for summer. I thoroughly recommend it.
This book takes you on a wonderful journey to Santorini. After family concerns Evie has been sent over to keep an eye on her nan's latest business venture, It's a wonderful bookshop with plans for evening club events. They are worried that her nan seems to be struggling financially and are worried that the latest marriage in a long run of ;husbands' may see her being financially fleeced.. The setting is just dreamlike, the rescue dogs are really amusing and the relationship between Evie and her nan is heartwarming., She's a lovely eccentric character who convinces Evie to date the landlords son. Georgios sounds like the dream man- how will the fake relationship pan out.
The perfect holiday read! What a setting - the island is painted beautifully - and a great cast of characters. This was a story of family, romance and friendship and one I really enjoyed.
