Evie heads to Santorini to visit her Gran and her new bookshop after being made redundant. But once there life on the island isn’t quite as she expected, her Gran has got herself in a pickle with her landlord and comes up with the plan for Evie to fake date his grandson, Georgios, to help keep the peace.
What I loved most about this book was the setting. I felt like I had been transported to Santorini, a place that has been on my bucket list for a long time, and now I’m even more desperate to get there. As I was reading it felt like I could see the sea and the white and blue buildings as well as feel the sun on my skin.
The characters were also great. Evie was very quirky but one I think we could all resonate with. My favourite had to be Gran though, her eccentricity would certainly keep you on your toes and she is such a laugh.
I think the cover encapsulates this book perfectly.
A lovely feel-good book that has you travelling to Santorini from your armchair.
This one should definitely be added to your summer TBR. What more could you want than sunshine and books.
Books, sunshine, cocktails, sea, beaches, dogs and handsome Greek men - what’s not to love?! Well, to be honest, Greek men are far too hairy for me but I’m sure others love them!!!
Evie has lost her job and joins her eccentric grandmother in Santorini, where she has married for the ninety-millionth time. I loved all the characters. Each had their own quirky ways and were delightful to read about. The dogs were all brilliant! Especially Houdini, who loves stealing wallets and hiding them from his owners!
Evie is trying not to fall for Georgios, Granny is trying not to get into anymore debt and Evie’s mum and sister are trying to find out all about what is actually happening in Santorini, but no one is telling them anything! In the meantime, Granny and Evie are running the bookshop and planning the opening of a cute evening cocktail bar.
Once you’ve read this, I guarantee you’ll want to jump on a plane and whisk yourself off to Santorini for your next holiday.
Thank you to NetGalley, HQ and Rachel’s Random Resources for the opportunity to read and review Summer at the Santorini Bookshop by Rebecca Raisin.
Summer at the Santorini Booshop has all the hallmarks of the perfect summer read; a stunning location, quirky fun characters, fake dating, books, and dogs. The story is infused with humour on every page making it a lighthearted read. The romance was sweet and cute.
I've never heard of a book scout but that's Evie's job and it sounds like the perfect gig.
She goes to Santorini at the behest of her meddlesome mother and sister to help her grandmother who is having trouble paying the rent on her bookshop. Gran is a hoot. She's a colourful character with a zest for life and a penchant for getting married having recently walked down the aisle for the ninth time.
Gran is not very forthcoming with the truth surrounding her financial situation and the state of her recent marriage so there were a couple of twists along the way. Fake dating Georgios is more complicated than it sounds when real feelings begin to develop. I had an idea of how things would go with Evie and Georgios but it was a lot of fun to watch them find their happy ever after.
A lovely read, ideal for a summer holiday! Set on Santorini in a bookshop - my idea of heaven! Great characters and a good story. I definitely recommend!
A lovely bit of romantic escapism. Set on beautiful Santorini conjuring up images of sunshine and blue waters. Finding love surrounded by books what could be better. This would be a great read lying on a beach somewhere. I read it to try and bring some sunshine into the gloomy British weather.
I found the characters are all likeable. Yes, it is a cheesy fake dating trope romance, but it can't help but bring a smile to my face.
A fun easy read that has the feel-good factor.
Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy
A rom com in a beautiful setting. Romance and comedy abound. Evie's legendary gran Floretta has married husband number 9 on the beautiful island of Santorini. Evie, having just been made redundant, is sent by her mother and sister to see what nonsense her gran is up to as she has been arrested. Gran needs her help in setting up her new business and to distract her landlord's grandson. Fun, laughs, misunderstandings, fake romance, this has it all. Great fun. #netgalley #summeratthesantorinibookshop
I was so immersed reading this book that I actually felt like I had visited this bookshop. I loved everything about this book and hope that there is a sequel that focuses on Roxy.
Ah if I didn’t want to go back to Greece before reading this then I definitely do now! And the idea of a little bookshop being situated overlooking to Aegean Sea is just perfect. Then add in a few cheeky literary cocktails, a bundle of quirky dogs and Gran… I mean get me on that plane now please!!?
The setting of this book is incredible but that wasn’t all, the characters were also great, my favourite had to be gran as she just had me chuckling aloud with some of her antics - especially as we were coming up to the end of the book!
I did feel like the Georgios and Evie romance was a bit extra at first, like it was a bit of a whirlwind fairytale - almost a bit like Evie herself really! Doubting that Georgios could actually like her as much as it appeared…
This was a lovely feel good book and I loved all of the literary puns and how much it revolved around the book world, I’m excited to see what her other books are like now!!!
Evie has just lost her job as a book scout when she is offered the chance to work at her grandmothers book shop in Santorini.
Her grandmother is a legend - married nine times and has led a long and varied life. However, her gran has upset her landlord who is threatening to close the bookshop and sell it.
When her Gran decides Evie should date the landlords grandson Evie is reluctant to but that changes when she sees him.
Can she save the bookshop and follow her dreams!
After being made redundant from her job as a book scout for a film company (who knew that there was such a thing?) Evie travels to Santorini to help her grandmother with her bookshop. There she is convinced to take date her grandmother's landlord's grandson Georgia's to help prevent him selling the bookshop due to unpaid rent.
Yet again we have a bookshop that I'd love to spend time looking around - especially as it has a bar and, even better, dogs to make a fuss of. I could certainly relate to Evie and her dislike of too much social contact and Georgios has human failings despite his "Greek God" appearance. Although the Santorini setting, and especially the food, are an important part of the story the real star is the bookshop, a real reader's dream. There are plenty of twists and turns in the plot just to ensure that things don't go too smoothly.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
I LOVED this book. It was just the escapism I was looking for - light, fun, romantic and all set in a sun-soaked bookshop: heaven!
Evie was endearing and relatable. Her love for the written word really caught my attention and made me want to see her succeed. Georgios was charming and believable as a love interest for such a self-admitted introvert.
Aside from the romance element of this story, I adored the relationship that Evie had with her grandmother. In fact, Floretta was my favourite character in the whole book. She was wild, free, funny, pushy and of somewhat suspicious morals. She was fun to read and ended up being the glue that held the whole story together.
The author did a great job of capturing the beauty of the setting and transporting me there as a reader. I felt the lightness of the atmosphere around them throughout the story.
My favourite part of this book was the meta nature of the story. The fact that there was almost a breaking of the fourth wall at various points in the story made me chuckle and gave me a real thrill. I loved that Evie kept calling out fake-dating as a trope even though she was engaging in it herself. My favourite of these moments was a reference to the potential plot of a second book in the series, and it really got my hopes up that the author will continue writing about these characters.

A summer romcom that whisks you away to the sun, sea and sand of Santorini.
Evie is in a job she's always wanted in Hollywood, working with books, what more could she want? However, when she gets made redundant and her gran is in a spot of bother, everything changes and she finds herself in Greece.
This book is great for those who want to feel like they've been transported somewhere else and anyone who like the fake dating trope as well. Not only that but it's ideal for bibliophiles as the business idea made me want to visit! An easy read with a sweet romance, friendship, familial ties and some unexpected parts here and there as well.
Evie has just lost her job as a book scout for a Hollywood film company when her family finds out her gran Floretta just opened a book shop in Santorini after marrying for the ninth time, so Evie`s mother is worried about Floretta and sends Evie to spy on her.
On arriving on the island Floretta is arguing with the landlord and Evie is told she can`t afford the rent so could Evie fake date the landlords son Georgios who also happens to be drop dead gorgeous.
The scenery is fantastic and having rescue dogs to pet while reading just makes it perfect.
My only complain was all the things the gran had got up to was a bit unbelievable and unnecessary to the story
A good story with likeable character's.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC and I give my honest review.
Thank you to the team at netgallery for letting me read this book early.
I really loved this story.
Everything is not what it always seems on the surface.
This beautiful story showed us its good to be brave and believe in love
I do look forward to new releases from Rebecca Raisin as I can rely on a gorgeous story that will leave me feeling warm and fuzzy. Summer at the Santorini Bookshop delivered on every level and had me laughing out loud as the story went from each drama to the next crisis.
The opening scenes gave me genuine envy as I discovered my ideal job. As someone who casts books as she reads, I would love to read books with a view to seeing them recreated for the screen. Alas, it also became a dream for our heroine, Evie, as she soon finds out that she’s being made redundant.
The action then shifts from Hollywood to the Greek Island of Santorini and the hectic world of Florette, Evie’s octogenarian grandmother. I absolutely loved Florette and her catalogue of deceased ex-husbands, they were a rich source of comedy, and I loved reading their stories. Of course, there was the added craziness from Evie’s legal-eagle mother and Evie’s Broadway star sister.
At its core, this is a fake-dating story, but it is filled with hilarious moments. The focus was not just on the dating, but also on the creation of the bookstore, in all its glory, and on the fabulous rescue dogs that Florette adopted.
With a fantastic supporting cast, this book cannot fail to entertain, and the funny moments came along thick and fast. I’m not going to single out anyone in particular as I’ve already mentioned that Florette was my star of the show, but there are plenty of quirky individuals to ensure that there is never a dull moment.
I can certainly imagine this book as a screen play and would love to see the bookshop, Bibliotherapy, and the additional spaces come to life. I defy you not to feel the same after reading this gem of a book.
Set in the beautiful Santorini.. New beginnings Books in the sunshine with family. New friendships and new romance makes for a lovely read.
Sorry (and I rarely say this) but I didn't love this book. The story in itself was OK - a rom-com with quite a good story line, set in a great part of the world with some lovely characters and quite a twist or two in there. However, it was the style of writing that disappointed me. Things seemed to jump around a lot - one minute, they would be talking about something and in my opinion, hadn't finished with that topic at all, then the next line would be going onto something completely different. I also found the lack of continuity an issue (but maybe that is just me?!). But how can he have a dog in his arms one minute, then throw his arms down by his side (where did the dog go?!) then they step towards each other, each with a dog in their arms?!! Sorry, but it really just didn't flow for me.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review which is clearly what I have given!
An easy book to read and I settled into it quickly. The characters all had charm especially Gran who was funny as well. What a place to run a bookshop!!! Idyllic. Rebecca does write some lovely books. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Evie is on a mission in Santorini. Having been sent there by her mum and sister, to keep an eye on their Grandma, who has relocated there and bought a bookshop. All sounds pretty idyllic apart from the fact that Evie's Gran is in a lot of debt, and her husband seems to have gone AWOL (that's her ninth husband by the way).
Desperate to save the bookshop, Evie and her Gran cook up a plan to seduce the landlord's son and keep him distracted from the debt. But as you would expect, Evie find herself falling for handsome Georgios. Will she tell him the truth, or will their holiday romance ends in tears?
Summer at the Santorini Bookshop is full of surprises, from the nine husbands to the fact that the previous eight dies in suspicious circumstances and Evie's Gran seems to have a very shady past! It stops the book from being your standard holiday romance story, as you never know what's coming around the next corner!
A thoroughly enjoyable read, a refreshing slant on the genre.
I love reading Rebecca Raisin's books and this is the fifth book I have read written by her!
Evie loses her job as a book scout in Hollywood as her new boss believed that the romance genre is over-hyped and that people need to see more action movies. When Evie heard that her grandmother had opened up a bookshop in Santorini, Evie takes the chance and flies over to Santorini. Evie's mother and sister are suspicious of the grandmother's current ninth husband and asks Evie to dig more about grandmother. Meanwhile, Evie's grandmother and the landlord of Evie's grandmother's bookshop are both at wit ends with each other and Evie's grandmother asks Evie to fake date the landlord's handsome grandson Georgios. But soon, their fake dating might turn into something more...
I love reading Rebecca Raisin's book and I would like to take the opportunity to thank Harper Collins for the invitation to review this book. I get lost into her books and feel like the part of the book. This book also made me feel the same way. I instantly liked all the characters even the main characters, Evie and her grandmother. There were some funny parts in the book which will make you laugh out loud. The descriptions in the book make me think of myself being in Santorini and I like how the author managed to draw the reader into the story. The stunning sceneries of Santorini made me imagine myself in Santorini as well. This was actually a good romance book, particularly this is a great book to read during the summer. I give this book five stars.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
