I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A fast paced story set in a huge mansion with lots of nasty characters. Few twists along the way kept it engaging.
A whodunit at an engagement party at a mansion. Told from the pov of the bride to be . There is an interwoven subplot revealing her past.
I found this took ages to get going and then the final act although full of ott violence was over too soon and was too convenient in places.
As a debut this shows plenty of promise for the future. The descriptive tone shows great talent. It just didnt sit with the dialogue interactions. This is where it went down for me as it felt the scene was set well and then the characters talked and it was ruined.
This is a 3.5 star rounded up to 4. Thanks to netgallery and publisher and author. I look forward to the bext book
Finley Turner is an author who I was very interesting to read a book from, and I finally got my chance!
This was a well written and good story with some unexpected twists and turns!
I enjoyed the engagement party but found it a bit too confusing at times .not my favourite read of 2023..
Following a speedy romance, Kass finds herself thrown into the lavish world of the filthy rich, as her mother-in-law throws an elaborate engagement party at their wealthy estate for their son Murrey and his bride-to-be. It all comes as a complete shock to Kass, as Murrey has kept his wealthy family background secret. Their welcome is politely cool as it seems Kass doesn't quite meet their expectations. Secrets and lies underpin every character, including Kass. Drink and drugs fuel the party. When a shrill scream alerts the discovery of a body, no one seems overly alarmed. The following day sees the family seated around the breakfast table, all eating their breakfasts as normal and chatting insanely, and avoiding the elephabt in the room. While doubt falls on Kass as the newcomer, it seems the fiancé she trusts so fully, Murray, has a much more secretive side. The perfect romance isn't so perfect. The friends and family are not so spotless either. Each has their own agenda. Lots of thrills that escalate as this thriller comes to a breathless end. #theengagementparty #finleyturner #ebook #thriller #netgalley #emblabooks
The Engagement Party took a little getting into but once I did I really enjoyed it. Plenty of twists and turns to get my teeth into and they kept me turning the pages. A good solid read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Embla Books for my ARC.
This was a great read it did take me a while to get into but once I did I couldn’t put it down. The engagement party was full of lies, secrets and many twists which definitely had me gripped. I really liked the different characters and how it shows how the rich live. Gripping read which I will definitely be recommending thanks to netgallery and the publisher for my advanced copy.
I cannot say i was engrossed in this story and it took me a while to get into it. This is a story full of lies and secrets with twists and turns. Sadly just an ok read for me. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Took me a while to get into the storyline but overall I enjoyed it. Full of lies, deceit with a few twists along the way
The characters were mainly good and the ending was not disappointing.
Thanks to Netgalley and Embla Books for this ARC which I would recommend.
This was an intriguing read to me, full of secrets and lies which adds to the build of suspense and tension throughout.
I didn't realize this was a book that I had already listened to. Kass and Murray get engaged and receive an invitation to their party thrown by his parents. While there, Kass finds out all kinds of secrets about Murray and his family-including brothers she never knew about. She gets threatening letters and someone tries to kill her. Why? Who has the worst secrets? Who is really the bad guy? Kass finds out so many things about her fiance and her own past. It was ok.
