I really struggled with this as it was poorly paced and required a total suspension of belief around the characters
A locked door mystery that will keep you guessing until the end. Quite a good debut novel. I will look forward to her next novel.
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
✨ Debut Fast thriller.
POV - single first.
✨ Kass and Murray just been newly engaged and it was already a mystery why Murray acted so snobby all of a sudden when they reached Murray’s house.
It’s already predicted that the family has something to hide, it a similar story from one of the movie I have watched which I forgot the title🤦🏽♀️
Anyway, it’s a locked room. Some of the characters are not likeable, yet Murray’s family was so snobby and arrogant.
✨upon reading to the story which is similar to other books that I have read it’s actually written good. No wonder I ga e it a 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . Just the predictable ending and story line was abit too much .
But would love to read from this author again.

Every one loves a rich family displaying their worst for you to mock and get enjoyment in a read. Quick read because it’s so easy to read.
Unfortunately I can't say I enjoyed this book. None of the characters were in anyway endearing. The story was jumpy and fast paced ( this wasn't a bad thing). Not for me.im afraid
This audio is essentially a whodunit mystery set against the backdrop of an engagement party in a mansion. With side stories about the main character who tells the story from her pov.
The audio was of high quality. The only problem i really had with this was I didnt feel the narrator was invested in the characters . The description read says the character is crying but its is not voiced like that when they speak. Is a minor criticism but it did spoil my listening. Apart from that they did a fab job of creating tention.
The audio did feel long at times. The back story which turns out to be interwoven into the main story was dripping throughout which was more compelling at times. The first action seemed overly long but overall the story was full of action complex characters and if i ignored the small bits where emotion wasnt in dialogue it was a lovely debut novel which i liked listening to. It follows a classic format but there is a lot of alcohol and drugs mentioned. Its a 3.5 star read for me.
Thanks to netgallery and publisher and author and narrator.
Tried several times, but unable to finish this audiobook due to the narration which I felt was just dreadful. At a future date I may try a paperback copy but not yet. I listen to at least 2 audiobooks most weeks and this is the only one I just couldn’t listen to. Sorry.
This story follows Kass and Murray who have a whirlwind relationship and end up getting engaged. Kass is still reliving her surprise engagement announcement in her head and they haven’t announced their engagement but receive a shock invite to their own engagement party to be held at Murray’s family manor over a few days.
Murray insists he hasn’t told his family, as far as Kass understands, Murray never speaks about his family or the fact they live in a manor. It all seems very suspicious to Kass but she goes along. There seems to be a lot of secrets, deception, threats and then a murder.
This was an ok read, I probably didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped I would, there wasn’t really any part in the story that was the most memorable but there was some twists I didn’t see coming.
This audiobook is US based, and narrated in an authentic US accent. It tells the story of a young woman, in love and delighted by her marriage proposal. She is surprised and intrigued when her fiancé's family send an invite to an engagement party hosted for them within days of the engagement. As she arrives at the home of her future in-laws, she is shocked to discover the wealth and status of the family she is marrying into. The weekend progresses and all sorts of secrets, suspicions and generally dark stuff is uncovered!
This is a decent enough read/listen, that I enjoyed. The bulk of the story is delivered over the course of a weekend, but events in the past are also narrated and conspire to reveal the plot, twists and all!
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review the audiobook in exchange for an advance copy.
Kass has recently become engaged to Murray, and before she knows it, his parents are throwing them an engagement party. Kass doesn’t know much about Murray’s family and not met them before. Some friends and family are more welcoming than others. The celebrations soon turn to chaos when a guest is found murdered and soon the accusations start flying and family secrets revealed.
An entertaining but not very gripping storyline. A lot of naivety and far fetched aspects of the story failed to keep the suspense alive and then had quite an abrupt ending. The narrator was easy to listen to.
An enjoyable listen that had some good twists. It was a little slow going in places but I enjoyed the narration. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers.
**please note due to low rating I will not be leaving a public review for this book as I have not paid for it.**
Narrated by Marisa Dargahi ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
by Finley Turner ⭐⭐
I'm sorry to say but I don't have many if any positive things to stay about this story.
I disliked all the characters and felt the plot was weak. I wish thr MC was a little stronger and stood up for herself through out the book as it would have had a better impact.
Would I recommend this book? - sorry but no
Would I purchased this book for a friend or myself? - no
The Engagement Party by Finley Turner and narrated by Marisa Dargahi was an excellent audiobook. Once I started to listen to it it was hard to stop playing it. It was a domestic thriller with good twists and turns throughout.
The narrator Marisa Dargahi was excellent

Cassie and Maurie so in love, engaged and excited for life ahead… only for a weekend away to change it all.
The lavish engagement party reveals a rich families darkest secrets, showing how people with money can get away with … murder. As labelled a thriller I expected more menacing feeling throughout but it was only exciting at the end. There was tension between many of the characters and hints at a troubled back story but so little detail to it that it didn’t make me curious.
The narration was great, resembling the characters feelings and energy. But the characters were all ‘simple’, felt they lacked depth and detail. Obviously this being my own opinion.
The perfect couple set out at the beginning and after having a whirlwind romance, Murray asks Kass to get engaged but how well does she know him?
Both have hidden secrets which unravel at an engagement party that's held by Murray's parents but it was so sudden. Until there's a murder.
Gripping and intense story.
Characters little flaky
Thank you to Netgalley
Kass Baptiste, newly engaged to her fiancé Murray Sedgemont, is invited to their engagement party by her future in-laws. Meeting them makes her uncomfortable but she tells herself that she just has to go through this during the weekend and she will be out of there.
But least does she know that house is soon going to be a crime scene and she will have to face everything from her past coming out.
this book was not so fast paced and after the 60-65% range it just felt dragged.
Thanks to netgalley, finley turner and Bonnier UK Audio for approving the audio arc in exchange for honest review.
When Kass's boyfriend Murray proposes Kass is over the moon but then an invite arrives to their engagement party at his parents house
This will be the first time Kass has met his parents in fact Murray has not really mentioned them so the invite comes as a shock.
Is Murray the guy she met and fell in love with ? Is Kass who you think she is ?
Good listen with a few twists
This book was ok in my opinion. It centers on Kass, who’s engaged to her fiancé Murray. She finds out that his parents are crazy rich and are throwing them a party and it’s there tragedy strikes. I do have to say that I honestly found it so ridiculous that Kass didn't have any knowledge about Murray's family, or that he came from money when there a 3 karat ring mentioned multiple times and despite her constantly talking about them struggling to keep up with rent she didn’t wonder how he afforded that? Wouldn’t you ask your fiancé about how he brought it?
I will say that I didn't figure out the twist early on so there’s that. But I think that is because there were too many coincidences and not enough clues to help give the reader guessing.
Overall, it was a decent read but I really had to suspend my disbelief in order to get behind these characters. The mystery was ok but I wasn't fully invested in it. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a solid listen nothing ground breaking and you could tell it was a debut and the narrator did a great job but I found it a bit drawn out in parts but overall would recommend as an audio book. I would be interested to listen to the authors next book to compare. Thanks to netgalley for sending me this arc in exchange for my honest review
The Engagement Party by Finley Turner is a thriller I enjoyed listening to. Imagine you visit your would-be in-laws after a whirlwind engagement. They are ultra rich and you feel out of place in the midst of an overbearing would-be mother-in-law. But what happens next is somebody dies and because of something that happened in your past, the police suspect you have something to do with it. Also, you feel like someone if out to get you.
And the story flows from there.
Definitely worth a listen.
Thanks for the review copy, NetGalley.
