Bone Lake is the 8th book in the Nikki Hunt series, but it is the first I have read. It can be read as a standalone, as the crime is committed and solved within it's pages, but I am now going to read from the beginning of this series as there is a lot of backstory that I want to learn. The book opens with a crime committed in 2002, the brutal killing of 3 family members. Fast forward to the present and there is another killing at the same house. Two highschool seniors have been beaten to death, another is missing and a young man has been injured after the dumb waiter he was in fell apart and he fell. Nikki Hunt is called in by the local sheriff. Is it the same killer? Is it a copycat?
The present day murders are wrapped up in the showing of a Netflix special trying to get the 2002 coldcase reopened. The missing girl, Alexia, was involved in the next episode with information that might blow the case wide open. Nikki, Liam and her team are in a race against the clock to find the missing girl. Solving the cold case would be a bonus. I enjoyed seeing how the investigation played out and how Nikki approached solving it. We see how the team is affected, especially when they disagree on where to go next, and possible suspects. There were things in Nikki's past that gave her a different insight and empathy, but was it misplaced? Nikki is a strong and vulnerable character, but she is tough, persistent and didn't give up or give in. Her partner, Liam, also has some stuff in his background that affects his behaviour and I know I will learn more when I read the previous books. The case was gripping, and although the murders were grisly, I didn't find the book as dark as some other crime thrillers I have read. I had a feeling about one of the characters from the first time he/she is introduced and I was right, not somethin that happens often. Overall, I found this an enjoyable, entertaining story that I read in a couple of sittings. If you enjoy a police procedural, one with strong characters and enough personal stories to make them interesting, then I recommend you pick up the Nikki Hunt series by Stacy Green.
One of the things I love most about this series is the struggles Nikki has overcome and the family she has built. I would never have guessed that a book that is very light on her personal life and family could be one of my favorites. But this one is unique and has her investigating an old case that his similarities to her past. Throw in a potential podcast and I was won over.
Nikki is a strong female character that doesn’t have a problem going a little rogue to find justice. Normally she ends up paying dearly for it, but she goes all out investigating a case and worries about the fallout after it happens. I like that book 8 found a clever way to make it personal for Nikki. I always think that adds a layer of complexity to a police procedural. And instead of putting someone close to Nikki in harm’s way, this one has her sympathizing with a suspect over a common past.
I appreciated the time sensitivity of their case and how the current case tied into the past case. This had the potential to go awry but the author does a good job of intertwining the cases and leaving no dangling strings. While I had no idea why, I thought there was only one potential bad guy, but that did not take away any enjoyment from the read. And I was so glad to read either in the acknowledgements or social media that book nine is a go. I really look forward to each new book in the series. I’ve been lucky enough to start this one from the beginning. And while it can be a stand alone, I think Nikki’s struggles and growth in each of the books is a reason I like the series so much and highly recommend you pick up the entire series.
Another fantastic Nikki Hunt story. I was hooked from page one and couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading more
This story was filled with twists and turns that kept me guessing; all I could do was turn the pages and see what would happen next. It is the eighth book in the series but my first, and I plan to correct that and read the other books. Many thanks to #Bookouture and #NetGalley for my gifted eARC.
Stacy green is one of my favourite authors and I devour both Nikki hunt and Lucy Kendall as soon as I grab them.
This was as good as every other - really sinister story around a murder and kidnapping from a home that was the scene of an unsolved murder 20 years previously.
Nikki and the team try and solve both cases - knowing they had to be connected somehow.
I wasn’t hugely shocked by the killer - but that didn’t spoil it at all. Absolutely fantastic with a kind of “scream” theme which was so cleverly written! Hurry back please Nikki!
When I first picked up Bone Lake by Stacy Green, I wasn’t aware that it was number eight in a series. I soon discovered that this absolutely doesn’t matter and can totally be read as a standalone novel. Nikki Hunt is an FBI agent and each book in the series covers different cases. Some references are made to what has happened previously, but nothing that means you need to read the others first.
I really enjoyed Bone Lake. It was incredibly fast-paced, and I could hardly keep up with what was happening, let alone who I thought the murderer might be! The author cleverly keeps you guessing, right up until the very end, and there were a few times I thought I’d worked it out, only to have something or someone else thrown into the mix!
If you enjoy a good thriller which will keep you on your toes, then I would definitely recommend Bone Lake. This is the first book I have read by this author, but I’d love to read more.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review Bone Lake by Stacy Green.
Bone Lake is the eighth book in the Nikki Hunt series. I have read books 1-4 and somehow missed 5-7. Not sure how that happened but am glad to have been given the opportunity to read this one.
Nikki Hunt works on cold cases for the FBI. She gets a call and runs out to a murder scene. The problem is it was the scene of a crime 20 years ago and is again in the present day. Twenty years ago, three Kline family members were murdered, the father and wife and their oldest child Amy. The crime was never solved. Their youngest child Matt survived due to Amy's quick thinking and sends him down a dumb waiter and off to a nearby neighbor to call for help. Now, twenty years later on the anniversary of the crime, after watching a documentary, two girls are dead and another is missing.
Nikki is called out to see if she can help not only to find the missing girl but solve the present murders. She will have to work the both the present and the cold case to see if they are connected. The first person that comes to mind is the survivor of the Kline family murders. Nikki will have compassion for the troubled lone survivor, but she believes he is holding something back. Liam her partner wants to follow the circumstantial evidence which points to Matt. Nikki believes there is more to the murders of the past that link the present which gives them plenty of people of question and investigate further. Nikki believes time is running out for the missing girl.
The is a wonderfully fast paced murder mystery. I am proud to say I suspected who would be to blame right from the start and was happy to be right. Mysteries are my favorite books to read. I love being totally engrossed in the story and trying to solve the who done it. This one was no exception. I really enjoy the Nikki Hunt series. The writing is consistent from one book to the next. You can pick up where the previous one ends and feel like you are meeting up with an old friend. I highly recommend this series.
Bone Lake (Nikki Hunt Book 8) is another totally attention holding thriller by Stacy Green. Two young women dead and a third missing so the clock is ticking for Special Agent Nikki Hunt. With connections to the past this is a complex and complicated case for the team.
I like to try to solve the case right along beside Nikki but boy is this one something convoluted. The more the team finds out the more confusing it becomes. So this case and characters involved are like peeling back an onion, with many layers a little at a time. I didn’t solve it before Nikki but was with her until the conclusion. It was way passed my bedtime but what is losing a little sleep when the book is just so riveting.
Highly recommend to all love a great who-dun-it thriller.
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I recently discovered this series and this is the second book I’ve read. I love the series because once I pick it up I don’t want to put it down. I try to find every spare minute to read more of the story. The book is a quick, satisfying read. The story opens with a murder and the fast forwards a few years to the anniversary of the murder and the release of a documentary. There are a lot of characters which keeps the book very interesting. If you like police procedurals you will want to check out this series.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the chance to read an advance copy of Bone Lake by Stacy Green. This is the 8th book in the Nikki Hunt series, and I love this series! This was a fast and thrilling read, as Nikki is called to a murder of 2 girls in a house on Bone Lake which was also a murder scene 20 years ago. As with the other books in the series, there are plenty of twists and turns throughout the book! Totally recommend this series!!!!
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this absorbing book
a cold case
a murder at a previous murder house
nikki hunt has been called to a bloodbath of a murder, two young students are found bludgeoned to death, overkill and no possible reason for it and young girl is missing
to backtrack what happened they have to investigate and interview all those people that attended the party at the air Bnb, so a lot of time is going to be used up
but with hints from an old murder case that happened at the same place years ago sends shocks waves down nikkis back
man oh man this book kept me on the edge of my seat, so many red herrings galore and the final reveal was most unexpected.....
cant wait to read the next book in this thrilling series
Nikki is faced with a few challenges in her latest case - she has a new boss, the scene of the murders is the location of an unsolved murder case, and she is butting heads with her partner, Liam. Not only that, but they start off with multiple suspects as the murdered girls had held a party the day before.
Then as the team investigates the current murders, they are drawn into reviewing the murder twenty years ago of the family who had lived there. This story had me turning the pages to see what would be discovered next from the witnesses and the family dynamics of the victims. And the closer they got to the truth, the more dangerous it became. Loved this story.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Agent Nikki Hunt returns in a cracking story. That hits extremely close to home. When Sheriff Miller calls her to a house on Bone Lake. Where two girls have been bludgeoned to death and another is missing.
A house where the notorious unsolved murder of the Kline family took place over twenty years ago, and one that is now the subject of a major Netflix documentary.
But is this a killer reawakened or a copy cat looking for five minutes of fame?
That's what Nikki, her partner Liam and Sheriff Miller need to find out and fast if they are to find the missing girl Alexia.
But they soon learn shocking information about Alexia and her involvement in the documentary and her fixation with the original Kline case. A case it turns out her mother was involved in and one where Alexia had seduced the sole survivor Matt Kline in order to gain never before divulged information in the hopes of making a name for herself.
Which makes Matt the lead suspect, especially as he still owns the house where the murders took place. But Nikki doesn't see him as a killer particularly as they have so much history in common.
But as more shocking revelations come to light the odds are stacked against him and Liam is determined to prove his guilt.
Which leaves Nikki to search for answers alone and when questions arise over how the original case was handled Nikki is outraged and determined to get justice not just for the current victims families but for Matt too.
But are her personal feelings clouding her judgment or is she right that Matt is innocent?
And with shocks, surprises, twists and turns. This was a cracking addition to the series. And even though I guessed who the killer was about half way through I was still gripped and couldn't stop reading. As I had to know if I was right and if they would ever be caught!
Stacy Green has done it again with another fantastic instalment in the Nikki Hunt series!
As always, I was hooked by the prologue, set in 2001 where a family are brutally murdered, and just the young boy survives, jumping forward to the present day where more brutal murders happen in the same house as the previous one years ago. It is up to Nikki and her team to find out what happened and who did it and try to find Alexia who is missing.
This was so good, so many suspects that I was clueless on who could have done it. Liam did annoy me a little as he was so sure who did it, it was getting on my nerves.
I liked that even now Nikki’s backstory from book one is mentioned, it is relevant. I was a little sad that there weren’t many home-life things happening in this one, it was purely the case. I would also like to see more family moments with Nikki, Rory and Lacey.
I have loved this series and feel much more is coming from Nikki Hunt.
This gripping mystery grabbed me and made my pulse race throughout. There is major suspense. I love Nikki. I enjoy seeing her professionally and in her personal life. This series continues to get better and it always keeps me guessing.
The Nikki Hunt books are always a great read and this the 8th in the series is no different.
A cold case of multiple murders and the violent death of two and the disappearance of another from the same address lead Nikki, Liam and the team on a rollercoaster of ride.
Another great additon to the series
What better setting for a book that an old Victorian mansion. Nikki is called to the scene of a murder - the site of the murder was the scene of a cold case murder in 2001. Can Nikki and her team solve this current case and the cold case at the same time. Had the killer from 2001 surfaced again or is it a copy cat?
Which a quick face paced read. Love this series and look forward to what is coming next.
Another gripping installment in the Nikki Hunt series. This time the crime brings back memories of her own tragedy. Nikki and her team hunt for the killer of a twenty year murder and a present day one that may be connected. The investigation puts her and Liam at odds. I could not put this one down. You’ll definitely be reading this late into the night.

I’m ready to join Hunt’s team because I had flushed out the killer within the first few chapters, or at least suspected the character.
Hunt is fresh on the trail of a grisly murder that occurred in the exact same place that another heinous crime occurred twenty years prior.
Green is so good at dropping zingers out of blue that change the angle immediately.
I love that the series is set In the Midwest because we are not just cornfields and crows. Crime resonates in the Midwest too.
I’m ready for my team assignment 😏
Another sensational instalment in the Nikki Hunt series. I find Stacy Green’s writing style really hooks me in, she is a fantastic storyteller weaving in red herrings and the requisite twists and turns expected in a good mystery-thriller. The cast of this series are great too, and it’s was like catching up with old friends picking up this book. Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
