I loved all the ideas in this book; there is some cool paranormal stuff. Unfortunately you can work out the whole plot pretty quickly, which wouldn’t really matter if the writing was dialled up from a four to a nine. It’s not badly written, but it would have been so much better if the baddie was more menacing and some of the scenes were scarier. I know the whole point is acceptance in society, but necromancers shouldn’t be this tame.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
necromancy and magic what couldnt you like about this book
tamar is an unlicensed necromancer and as she goes about her job in an hospice she helps to keep patients alive to say their final goodbyes to their families though it does take a toll on her body but its one she is willing to pay
but as she drives home she witnesses a horrible car accident and gives to much of her blood to the victim and passes out herself...luckily for her a licensed necromancer saves the day and tamar has to undertake training for her license to be a practising necromancer
maddy is to become tamar teacher so that she can get her license, she knows about all the dangers involved and how much that one person can give of themselves when they are trying to help others, she tried to help her brother and it backfired she struggles with her health conditions for years but her investigations and training are helping others
ohhh i have to say this book peaked my interest and i kept reading and i have to say i wasnt disappointed at all... there is just something about necromancy that always draws me in....
Cute, unique, easy fun and entertaining read. 4 stars.
Thak You Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley.
Easy to follow writing with uncomplicated mystery.
A new to me author and I will be sure to keep an eye on her future work.
This was a cute romance and thriller with an interesting premise re: necromancy. I think it would probably do well as a YA novel because the writing was a little basic and the twist was almost immediately obvious. Overall, I’m not mad at it but I probably wouldn’t read more if this became a series.

I love paranormal books, esp if they DON'T involve vampires. Though, in most cases, I would choose vampire over necromancy because of how they sometimes don't get a solid plot. Now, this baby was different. Maddie and Tamar were well suited with each other. And I was rather surprised with how easily they fell into step wit one another because the synopsis had me thinking Maddie was going to be a tough cookie, but she was such a blushing softie, I loved her. That twist, God bless you Sandra Barret because that was some really good placing. Right twist, at the right moment with the perfect emotions and reactions from different counterparts. Amazing. Though, it was saddened with the less reunion and lack of information about Aiden's last act as the.. well no spoiler.

𝗧𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿 was such a sweetheart and her work as a nurse, I can attest if that kind of power was real, it would save us some mental and emotional burnout but then again, not all of us are as sweet and caring as Tamar. The amateur sleuth. I also loved 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗱𝘆 but I got angry at her sometimes how she left her brother decide and make demands like that. And then when in some situations, she just seemed to share things with him that made things harder. 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗮;these two were like very opposite but their love for Tamar was something fierce. It was heartfelt. I will not talk about the twins... but damn Kenneth, you are wild. I wonder what became of you.

OMG!!!! This story was full on awesomeness! A unique take on the supernatural genre that has not been done before. It could definitely happen in the real world, if necromancers were a thing. This is my first read for Sandra Barret and I can definitely say it won't be my last. The way she was able to weave the story together for Tamar and Maddy, was full on smoothness. I could not put it down once I started, I was so drawn in. I seriously hope there is more from this world that she has created. Definite 5 star read.
Entertaining fantasy story for teenager readers and up. Set around necromancy, but so much more fun than that may sound to some, and not a horror story.
Instead a mystery to solve, moral dilemmas, legal dubiety, first steps in a romance (so more books to come? I really do hope so!) and a dog (always nice to have a pet in a story).
I particularly liked the issues the story raises about the possible problems of standing out in society as different, and the choices this makes us make, and also about who is in charge of scientists and who controls how far human scientific study should be allowed to go. From a teaching perspective I can see this book being a brilliant way to get students to think about and discuss these things.
