Thank you NetGalley & Frances Lincoln Children's Books for this ARC!

This picture book by Jack Kurland is exceptionally cute! A great story about a cat with strong feelings, especially about what he does NOT want to do. I think children (and adults) will find this book relatable in many ways! It also teaches kids that sometimes we must let others tell us what they need. This picture book is sure to help little ones learn about speaking up about their needs as well. The adorable illustrations are sure to reel anyone in, and I especially love the colors used in this book! I'm excited to add this to my library's collection!

Thanks, again, NetGalley & Frances Lincoln Children's Books!

‘The Cat Who Couldn't Be Bothered’ with story and art by Jack Kurland is a Picture book about a cat who doesn't want to do anything.

Greg the cat just can't seem to get any energy to do anything. His friends don't give up though. They keep tempting it with more and more activities and Greg just can't be bothered. until Greg finally tells his friends what the reason is behind his lack of Interest. his friends learn new ways they can interact with Greg.

This is a cute story and shows how it's okay to express your feelings. The lesson is gentle and the art is pretty great. I enjoyed reading it.

While I was initially very intrigued by this concept, because it sounded incredibly cute, after reading the book, I'm not entirely sure what the message was supposed to be.

On the surface level, there is a cat who simply cannot be bothered to do anything, regardless of how fun and exciting it sounds! The illustrations are very cute, and give good life to the story and characters. However, I felt like the reason he did not want to do anything was not explored very well, and the twist at the end was just sort of jarring and sad. Ultimately, I'd probably choose a different book to read to the kiddos in my life.

A brilliant story for both home and the classroom. I was totally drawn in by the cover and title! The story covers the topics of feelings, friendship, and highlights the importance of speaking to someone when you don’t feel right. It helps children to see that feeling sad is totally normal and encourages them to understand their feelings and name them in a quirky and fun way!

An important book for talking about mental health with children.

***Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for the eARC of this book. It dropped in March. All opinions are my own. So I somehow screwed up receiving/downloading the eARC, so I had to wait for my library to get in.***

Greg is a cat who just can’t be bothered to do anything fun. His cat friends invite him to play trombone and to go to the moon, and nope, Greg can’t be bothered. But in the end, Greg finally tells his FRIENDS why he doesn’t want to do anything. And the last page is maybe worth the theoretical price of admission.

Charmingly illustrated by the author, I believe this sweet and funny picture book can help children identify with their feelings or have empathy for their friends who are having these feelings. (It also perfectly illustrates the malaise of cat life.)

It’s a sweet book and I recommend

This is a precious little book about a cat who doesn’t want to do anything. At first he just seems lazy or bored, but it turns out he is sad and his friends come together to help him feel better. Very sweet and adorable story that can help kids understand communicating about mental health.

*The Cat Who Couldn't Be Bothered* is a lovely, honest picture book that speaks to the fact that sometimes we need to sit with our feelings. The book demonstrates the importance of being authentic -- of both sharing our feelings and listening to and respecting the feelings of others.

Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the ARC of this!

Very cute story about a cat who seems to be struggling with depression and how his friends meet him where he is. The art style was adorable, and both of my kids liked the story.

A heart-tugging tale of a sad kitty disconnected from life until his friends reach out to him. Perfect for readers 2-6 years and everyone taken by the charming illustrations.

I chose this book because I love cats and books, so what could be better than a book about a cat. But this one made very little impression on me. The plot was simple and predictable. The art was minimalist. I can't say that either the text or the book were bad. It just seems that shortly after reading it, I'd pretty much forgotten about it.

This was a cute kids book about a cat who doesn’t want to do any of the fun adventures his friend invites him to do because he’s feeling sad and just wants to relax. I feel like it’s a good starting place for parents to have a discussion about feelings, sadness, mental health, etc. The artwork was bright and colorful.

Thanks to the author and publisher for the arc I received via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

The cute cat in this book is a great example of emotions for kiddos. Great for read aloud and discussion for children (and adults) of all ages.

The Cat Who Couldn’t Be Bothered is a cute picture book about a black and white cat who doesn’t want to do anything, no matter what his friends suggest. The art is simple and charming, with block colors and few lines. The handwritten text adds character to the book and emphasizes the cat’s depressed feelings. I like the message that it’s okay to do nothing sometimes, and a cat is the perfect animal to communicate this.

Thank you to NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for the free copy in return for my honest review.

This was a cute little book about friends digging in a little when one of their group "couldn't be bothered" to join in any fun activities with them. When they asked a few follow up questions, he admitted that he was sad and just wanted to do nothing, so they all decided to do nothing with him, with his ok.

The artwork was simple, but fun and bright. I can see little kids enjoying the art and the increasing silliness of the activities the friends were planning to do.

This didn't knock my socks off, but I am planning to get a copy of this for my friends' little one. I am sure he will enjoy it as he likes picture books where animals are the MCs.

3, solid and cute, stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children's Books for an eARC of this book to read and review.

Loved this book! It reminded me of a lot of the cats I know! I also liked the simplicity of the inside of the book, it added to the level of humour as well.

This is a lovely book. It speaks about sadness and depression in a very simple, matter-of-fact way while simultaneously making one smile (even giggle with delight) in recognition of cats´ (our own) behavior. Wonderful!

Princess Fuzzypants here: Sorry. This doesn’t often happen, especially with children’s books but I just didn’t get anything out of the book- neither the none story nor the artwork. I guess I just couldn’t be bothered.

Two purrs and no paws up.
