Some cats just come across as lethargic couch potatoes or party poopers. This is where we meet Greg. No one can seem to get him to do anything at all. Greg just sits around and doesn’t do anything at all. He’s asked to go to parties, to play, and all sorts of things. Finally, Greg tells his friends what’s really going on. That’s when he finds out that he’s not alone. I shared this story with my kid and we had a great conversation about sad days and what helps him to feel better. Just the fact that this book prompted that discussion earns it 3 stars. It gets another for the cute and quirky illustrations. I’m glad we got to review this book and will watch for the author in the future.

I would like to thank the author, publisher, and Netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A cat doesn't want to do anything - none of the activities his friends suggest. Finally someone askes him what he wants to do and he explains that he is sad and just doesn't want to do anything. The other cats ask if they can join him in doing nothing (in a supportive way) and we learn they've been calling him the wrong name throughout the book. An excellent book for normalizing the feeling of sadness and not wanting to do anything but just be.

Though all his friends are filled with fun suggestions for nifty things to do, this cat just can't be bothered to participate in ANY activities. There's a reason why, though, and when his pals learn why the cat doesn't want to play, they're understanding and helpful. I'm normally not a big fan of "emotions" books, but this author doesn't club you over the head with it. The read is kind of mellow, and might make a perfect rainy day book. It kind made me want to go lie down.

And, I definitely like the name Greg for a cat.

This is a really charming book that addresses the subject of depression in an accessible and light-hearted way.

One of the first things I noticed was the illustrators use of colour as a story telling medium- "Greg" is black and white while all his friends are drawn in bright colours reflecting his lack of joy and enthusiasm.

My takeaway moral was that even if other people seem to be fine they may also have their struggles and that sometimes it's okay to just do nothing.

This story also has little bit of a comedic twist that ends the book on a lighter note, something that is needed in a book aimed at children.

Overall, this is a great conversation starter about feeling sad and how that can present and open up discussions on depression with smaller humans.

I am always drawn to books that have a cat on the cover, whether it is a novel, non-fiction, or children’s picture book. The Cat Who Couldn’t Be Bothered is a story that introduces children to feelings and emotions. I loved the simplistic illustrations and message this book delivers. I received a digital copy of Jack Kurland’s picture book to review. Thanks to the author and publisher and NetGalley for my copy.

A lovely picture book. The drawings were simple, but therefore very effective. The story itself was nice with a good message to children. The ending felt a little abrupt for me. But a delight nonetheless.

I love a picture book starring a kitty, and this was no exception. I totally related to this cat, and I really appreciated that his friend finally got to the bottom of it. It's an important message in a quirky package.

The Cat Who Couldn't Be Bothered is an adorable picture book with an important message. Greg the cat isn't in the mood to hang out with any of his friends who keep asking him to do things with him. Eventually one of his friends offers to "do nothing" with Greg instead, since everyone has those days now and then where they don't feel like doing anything. The illustrations are beautiful and thoughtful, contrasting Greg's monochrome coat against the color of his friends. This picture book was short and sweet with younger appeal.

A cute read on how to include others, and touching on how to be supportive when a friend isn’t feeling up to being more active

nother book that we read and quite enjoyed was this one! It very subtly explains mental health and how sometimes, we may be faced with the most fun or exciting things, but we can't be bothered! Idk how much my son really understood, but I feel its something that we need to address and slowly teach them that sometimes, you may want to do nothing, and its ok.

This is a short, simple, and sweet story about a cat who is feeling too sad to engage socially, so instead, his friends join him in doing nothing. I enjoyed the illustrations and the message, though I was hoping for a bit more story.

This was such a cute story about (unsurprisingly) a cat who couldn't be bothered to do anything even though his friends keep asking because he was sad. Sometimes being sad is a tricky subject for kids and I thought this for great for teaching both that it's okay to be sad, and how to help if you're the friend of someone who's sad. With children it would be so easy if a friend kept not wanting to play to just assume they don't want to be your friend anymore which might not be the reason. the cat and his friends were great and I loved the illustrations too, very nicely done.

This is a book about a cat who does not want to be bothered when his friends keep asking him to do things. As the story progresses, the cat discloses that he wants to sit and do nothing, so his friends join him.
This story would be good for a kid who needs to find companionship. It teaches children to be there for friends anyway they can.

The Cat Who Couldn’t Be Bothered by Jack Kurland is about a cat who turned down every invitation for fun because he couldn’t be bothered. He was sad and so his friends did nothing with him instead. This is a great book to broach the subject of feeling sad or depressed. It could be helpful for a sad child or someone who is depressed in a child’s life. The story is good and the illustrations are fun. This would definitely be a good tool in a parent or therapist’s arsenal to talk about how we feel when we are sad. I would have happily read this book to my own children. I am voluntarily writing this honest review after reading an advanced complementary copy of this book thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books.

This picture book is about mental health and how friendship and caring for each other can help someone feel sad and alone.

I think the title could’ve been worked on a little longer to be more appropriate to the story being told because it gave off a different idea about what the book was going to be about. While the book tackles a difficult topic and introduces it to younger readers in a simpler form with nice illustrations and everyone coming together, I didn’t find the ending to be helpful to the cause. Instead of helping the cat, everyone just did exactly what he was doing without providing any proper help. Not exactly helping the cat but just being there with him in the same state.

The Cat Who Couldn't Be Bothered is destined to be a hit. It starts in a way that is very silly for kids, but then takes a turn for the serious, showing kinds that sometimes our sadness shows in different ways, and that they don't need to be alone in their sadness. And of course, it ends with a fun twist. It was an absolute delight to read and I know my kids will love it.

This is a very basic picture book with minimal substance. It's not funny, no message, not especially fun to read out loud. I'm sure people will be interested in it because of the title, but I think it could have done more.

A really short story about *read name of the title*. The illustrations in this are definitely what make the story. Delightful colours and art. The message is quirky, honest and reflective. Give it to your littles and olds.
I got the ARC from the publisher on Netgalley.

I think this is a very relatable book for young kids with big emotions. Sometimes I too want to do nothing at all and that is okay. The theme of being there for your friends even if that means doing nothing at all with them is a big concept that is hard to break down for kids but I think this book does a great job. My son also greatly enjoyed the pictures.
