Relatable, funny, and nostalgic. Through a combination of present-day narration and flashbacks to the angsty teen years, we follow the authentic, and familiar journey of Ella and her unrequited first love Lowe. With a solid supporting cast of friends, this is a contemporary friend to potential lover story which will resonate with many. This book is like reading a message from a close friend and the author does a wonderful job of encapsulating being an awkward but turbulently passionate teenage in the 00's and a ‘very’ single 30-something today.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

With thanks to HQ and Netgalley for an ARC copy in return for an honest review.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my copy of this beautiful book. I have to say I didn't like the cover at all and would not have picked this book based on that but I am so glad to have had the opportunity to read it.
I started it alonside the hotel pool whilst on holiday and a couple of pages in I announced to my husband that I thought I was too old for this book. It begins with preteens wondering if they'll ever have any feelings for the opposite sex and smoothly runs into the greatest love story I have ever read. Nostalgic, unique, open and honest, if you have ever been through the highs and emotional lows of a first love during your teens you will love this book.
I Love You, I Love You, I Love You by Laura Dockrill was such a brilliant read that will have you feeling ALL of the feelings.
I Love You, I Love You, I Love You is Ella’s story. When she’s a teenager she meets Lowe, and for her it’s love at first site, but she a scared teenager and so she quickly friend zones herself and vows to love him from afar. Ella and Lowe quickly become best friends and become key parts of each other’s lives. But every time Lowe kisses another girl Ella’s heart breaks that little more. She'll have to choose whether it's enough to be just friends with the love of her life, or if she's prepared to let the terrifying, beautiful, all-consuming truth come to light.
I Love You x3 is a gorgeous mix of a slow burn love story set to an incredible coming of age tale. I’m only a year younger than Dockrill so the nostalgia of being a teen in the early 00s, before smartphones and social media, with all of its music and wider culture, was particularly great. The split timeline of ‘now’ and ‘then’ worked so well to tell Ella’s story. The pacing of the ‘then’ worked brilliantly to take us through Ella’s adolescence and into adulthood, whilst the ‘now’ brought everything together, and boy did I cry buckets by the end.
This is a gloriously written book that puts you right in the thick of it with Ella, our FMC. Your heart will soar and break right along with hers, you will cringe hard, you’ll want to scream at her and Lowe to actually TALK to one another, but you know what, it all feels so desperately raw and real and that’s exactly where its charm lies. I love so much that this was based on Dockrill’s own lived experience with her husband.
This is a special kind of book, it’s so uniquely its own story and I know I’ll be thinking of it long after it’s finished. I genuinely couldn’t recommend it more highly.
Unfortunately not for me. I have read Y.A.'s before and found them to be refreshing in their honesty and language. I struggled with this book and only got 20% through it, very long and in my opinion overly descriptive without getting to the point.
I think I may be too old for this book.
Thank you for this ARC Laura and NetGalley.
Thanks to #NetGalley for an #ARC of #ILoveYouILoveYouILoveYou.
Ironically, I didn't love this book. I found it quite long and tedious. For a romance novel, it probably didn't need every little detail put into the story.
While there was a feeling of nostalgia when the timelines skips back to 2000, my main thought was how much longer can this book go on for.
This book follows Ella past and present, then and now, then being the year 2000 14 years old and at school with her friends. I loved the nostalgia of this story, I was also 14 in that year and could relate to a lot of things from that time. This is more than a love story but follows Ella as she falls in love with Lowe which ends up lasting for years as they are just 'good friends' The present day setting is Ella with Jackson supposed to be settled down but things aren't as they seem. The book is really funny and very relatable and I enjoyed reading this a lot more than I thought I would. The writing was very immersive and characters well drawn and relevant. I will be recommending this book and looking out for more from this author.
It took my a few tries to get into this book but once I got into it I was OBSESSED!!
The slow burn of Ellie and Lowe’s story constantly had me on my toes. There was times I was screaming at her to just tell him how she felt but that just made her character so much more alive. I love the way that the book showed the uncertainty of teenage love and how we can get in our own heads.
I love how it showed how much they cared about each other sometimes without saying much. If you’ve ever been in love this book is for you
This book is told in two timeframes, bouncing back and forth between the past and the present over the span of 20+ years.
It is a story of missed opportunities and heartbreak, about wishing you'd had the courage to say what you truly meant instead of thinking everything will work out in the end. Does it ever turn out alright in the end?
14 year old Ella meets Lowe through mutual friends, but Ella's self-esteem is rock bottom and she never believes that they could be more than friends. But they do become best friends. Everyone else believes there must be more to their connection, but they quickly dismiss those beliefs. But inside Ella is utterly head over heels in love with Lowe, and as the reader, we have a lot of reasons to believe that Lowe feels the same way...but despite being the best of friends who chat about everything, this is the one subject that remains unspoken. You can't stop turning the pages to read about all the times they came close to telling one other how they really felt but ultimately chose not to! It's so frustrating!
Ella's decisions in life are impacted by her secret love for Lowe, which makes her heart shatter repeatedly, as she is unable to let go of him.
One drunken night, she finally tells Lowe about how she feels, only to be met with silence.
The decision to tell him marks the beginning of their separation, with Lowe becoming a famous rock star and Ella a tormented writer. Ella tries to distance herself from Lowe, to avoid reading about his band, but the two are irresistibly drawn back to one another like magnets.
Will they ever get their chance?
Does everything turn out alright in the end?
A great book! I especially loved all the nostalgic memories from my youth; mix-tapes, "jeans where the bottoms are matted and drenched up to the knees in dried puddle water and city scum", the tiny blue Argos pens, MySpace...

Thank you to @netgalley and @hqstories for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book took me back to being a teenager in the 2000's and the overwhelming and all-consuming feeling of teenage love. A time when phones were just starting to become a thing, limited internet and the moments of spending time with your favourite people before you all grow up and get pulled in different directions.
Ella and Lowe meet when they're 14yrs old when their two friendship groups merge and they become very close, very quickly. They have so much in common and they clearly fall in love with one another but due to Ella's low self-esteem when Lowe starts asking if she's interested in him, she firmly puts herself in the friendzone and only allows herself to love him from a distance.
At the age of 19, Ella finally admits to herself and to Lowe that she's in love with him and has been since they were 14, but he doesn't say anything back. He tries to be there physically but he's drunk and dating someone else, this isn't how Ella wants things to go for them. But this spells the end of their closeness, but it seems neither can totally break away from the other, which is easily done now that Lowe is in a famous band, travelling the world.
This book is written in a dual timeline so we see how Ella is getting on at age 30 compared to how she lived her teen years. She's published a book of poetry, is newly engaged to her long term boyfriend and is working on a book that she's very nearly finished but too scared to send to her agent. But then she hears that Lowe's band has broken up and she reaches out - they instantly pick up where they've left off but it soon becomes clear that they're both with other people and the friendship fizzles out until one day they meet again and they're both single. Could this be their time to make things work?
This book is really well written and so evocative. I grew up in the same years that Ella and Lowe did and I can remember dressing and behaving in the same way they did and OMG CRINGE! But it is a fantastic story and I couldn't put it down.
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
Ella and Lowe meet as teenagers and their story is told between alternating 'then' and 'now' chapters.
The chapters set in the past had me reminiscing about my own experiences, even down to the all girl's school. Being a woman now in my 30's the references to pedal pushers, panda pops, and a necklace from argos all gave me a special dose of nostalgia
I'd not heard of this author before as she has mainly written children's literature, however I'm hoping this foray into adult novels will last and am looking forward to reading more of Laura Dockrill's work in the future.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book broke my heart. I don't know if we all have that story but this is the one of your childhood love that you never truly get over and will (always?) be helpless in the way you feel about this person. It's a tricky one in my opinion, as I appreciate how many missed m0ments and opportunities we witness due to the fact that the main character is absolutely convinced that her feelings will not be reciprocated and she's better off being his best friend but some of the things Lowe says/does make me want to scream at Ella for not seizing the moment, there were SO MANY moments over the years! And, yes, the time was probably not right and if you've ever had to deal with an introvert you know they can drive you mad, but as someone who's been there, it broke my heart. I loved Laura Dockrill's writing and she did a brilliant job at immersing me into the story, unable to put the book down and being embarrassingly invested in seeing this story though. I wish I could have been that person Ella could confined in, I wanted to hold her hand and give her the biggest hug throughout.
What can I say? I loved it, I loved it, I loved it. A beautiful and heart breaking love story, will not forget it any time soon. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my review copy, all opinions are my own.
Wow! Simply wow.
Ella Cole age thirty in a stable relationship, good friends, but something or someone is missing from her life, and she really misses him.
That said person Lowe Archer. They’re still friends though, aren’t they?
The story is told in chapters going back to being teenagers, present time, and reflecting back in chapters as they grow from children to adults.
I loved this book from the start, it’s funny, raw, honest and filled with a wealth of emotions. The insecurities and challenges that every generation faces still.
The descriptions of lifestyle, music and items of the past brought back memories.
I loved the character of Ella, and her lively friends, and Ah Ella, her dreams and dreaming, felt privy as a reader to her innermost thoughts.
Will remember this book, loved it.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Publisher for an advanced e-book copy. Opinions about the book are entirely my own.
I kinda went through a ‘no romance’ patch as they can become really samey sandy and predictable. I really really enjoyed this one though, childhood sweethearts meet again as adults. Such a sweet story that has me smiling away. Really looked forward to every time I picked this up !
Aged 30, Ella unexpectedly sees love of her life and childhood best friend, Lowe, at a friend’s wedding. In a long-term relationship, Ella is haunted by teenage memories of how they first met. Pop star Lowe and budding writer Ella are now grown up but estranged. Will teenage love and an unshakeable bond threaten the new life Ella has created for herself?
I loved this book from the first page. The way that Laura Dockrill writes Ella and her friends at the wedding is pure chaos. Teenage Ella and her friends was like something out of the Jacqueline Wilson ‘Girls’ series: relatably awkward and cringeworthy. It definitely had a reminiscent tone of the late nineties and early noughties, which took me back. The frustrating ‘will they, won’t they?’ near-miss trope, reminded me of David Nicholls ‘One Day’. For the millennials, this will definitely take you back to teenage love. I’m just obsessed - please read!
I Love You, I Love You, I Love You follows Ella Cole and her best friend Lowe Archer from their teenage years to adulthood. It’s a funny, touching read that captures growing up and the power of love and friendship.
This is the perfect book for anyone who loves stories about enduring friendships and the bittersweet nature of first love.
Oh my goodness what a lovely book ! Here we meet Ellie and join her through her teenage years , experiencing all the pain and angst of first love and growing up. Her character is so relatable and well drawn that you recognise much of her struggles and heartache from your own experiences. Funny in parts and will make you smile but at the same time it’s heartfelt and you can feel yourself saying “ go on Ellie!”
Beautifully written from the heart and a pleasure to read.
Thank you to Harper Collins and Net Gallery for this ARC, Laura Dockrill is a new author to me and I must admit that I was thoroughly emersed in this book.
The story is written over two timelines but it works and it flows well.
Ella Cole and Lowe Archer have been in love from their teens but scared of the "L" word and would it alter their best friend relationship so Ella puts Lowe firmly in the "friend zone".
The story is told from Ella's point of view and the flashback to her teenage years had me laughing out loud and saying "been there, done that", the authors eye for detail and recollection of teenage life in the 90s is superb, what did teenagers do before the the advent of tablets, mobile phones and snapchat ?
For fifteen years Ella and Lowe are in the friend zone, they both have other relationships and at times I wanted to bash both their heads together and shout "communicate".
This story had me gripped from the first page, it had me laughing, it had me tearful, I loved the characters, Ella, Lowe and not forgetting Aoife, Ronks, Bianca and Mia. they were so believable, my only small concern would be that the "will they, won't they" went on for a bit too long but other than that a very enjoyable read.
I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.
This story was so sad and sweet, I didn't know if I could cope with an ending not going the right way, but I'm sooooo glad it did.
It took me back to my teens and could really feel the emotion that Ella was going through. Great characters and plot. I truly pray and hope we get a Lowe story too! My life would be complete.
Thank you to the author, publisher and netgalley for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
There is a theme in books that I just love, Think "Normal People", "Talking at Night", "London, with Love" - stories of relationships that oscillate between love and friendship that begin in teenage years and that, as readers, we see develop, crumble, begin again.. Like these other titles "I Love You, I Love You, I Love You" describes the ferocity of teenage love, the heartbreaks when it is unrequited or doesn't work out, the marks that leaves on us as adults. This intensity of feelings is what I love about these books, but Laura Dockrill's voice makes this book so different. Her writing is beautiful and manages to balance funny with deep and emotional wonderfully. Her humour, her frankness, and the cultural nostalgia which floods every page without ever being sentimental makes this book such an enjoyable read. It's quirky in the most beautiful way, just like Ella, and I truly loved it.
