This story could be a Pixar short and have everybody in the theater crying. It needs a different cover, and it ends abruptly at the last page. But overall, this is an amazing work of quiet imagination. Of a child’s nighttime theory becoming an adventure of a lifetime. This story is wonderful and deserves a chance to flourish.

My daughter is 6 and every night we have been reading a new book at bedtime from different publishers where we have got a review copy - I do tend to read them ahead to check that they are ok and this was one I read that I knew I wouldn't be reading with her, or getting her to read independently.
I liked the idea behind the book but it isn't one for me. There would be far too much of me trying to explain what the story is about and the reasons for the different encounters - and that it was all just a dream he was having as his mum was still with him in the room through out. 3 stars from me, may be more of a hit with some other parents and children and possibly one for a slightly older age range that I have here.
I guess most kids have trouble falling asleep due to unfounded fears. I’m not so sure this is a reassuring book to read to a child experiencing night time fear unless an adult explained it. . The illustrations are absolutely beautiful, but an adult might need to explain why the boy dreamed about the snake, the tiger, etc. Some young kids might not understand that the mother was in the room all the time and that the boy was just having a crazy dream.
