Totale Kaufempfehlung.
Smallasaurus is a tiny blue dinosaur who is happily eating some ferns. Unfortunately she comes across Badasaurus, a much larger dinosaur who enjoys eating smaller herbivores!
While she is figuring out how to hide from him, she meets Worseasaurus, a dinosaur who eats small dinosaur based dinosaurs and plant based dinosaurs!
She must use her tiny sized brain to try and find a solution.
This story is a wonderful way to introduce food chains to children.
Really adorable book with lovely, eye catching illustrations. Loved the naming of the dinosaurs in the book. My 4 year old laughed through it!
The little boy loved this dino book. A great book for dino lovers of all ages. Silly names, fun pictures, and bright colors are wonderful.
“When Dinosaurs Walked the Earth” by Sean Taylor with illustrations by Zehra Hicks is a picture book about how tough it was to be a dinosaur.
Smallosaurus is an herbivore and just wants to eat a plant but a larger meat eating dino wants to eat Smallosaurus. The dinos chase each other and things happen. Watch what happens in the rough world of the prehistoric era.
The story is a fun read full of twists. The art is bright and colorful and I was rooting for Smallosaurus the whole time.
I sort of expected this one to contain facts about dinosaurs and what we know about the world in that time. It's really just a simple story about brains versus brawn. A cute story for young dino fans without much behind it.
Adorable book! I love books with dinosaurs as they're always a favourite for storytime! Can't wait to use this one soon!
This is a picture book that does not take itself seriously but takes it’s topic seriously. We start by meeting a very small dinosaur called Smallasaurus, and all the dinosaurs in this book are purposely not factually named. This is a book about the food cycle and that sometimes people are food. It’s interesting, but it’s not the best book. It will have its people that love it, and people like me who are more meh. This was a fine but not one that’ll be on shelves in 20 years.
I had a lot of fun reading this book. It starts simple enough with a small dinosaur trying to have some breakfast. When they draw the attention of a bigger dinosaur who wants to eat them for breakfast is when things get interesting. Just when all hope seems lost, we see an even bigger dinosaur show up, one who wants to have them both for breakfast. What follows is a clever and funny look at how the food chain works in nature. Most kids will have a great time reading this book.
Bright colours and toddler-friendly dino story.
Reminiscent of Maisy Mouse in tone, colour and simplicity, this gives a very basic look at what it might have been like in the time of the dinosaurs.
With their small brains, dinosaurs may not have been very bright, but at least sometimes the little guys came out on top, as Smallasaurus finds.
A few simple facts are given to readers, and the idea of the circle of life as smaller dinos are preyed on by those bigger than them. There’s moments of humour and excitement as danger threatens.
Not too scary but gives the idea of large and interesting creatures to those just learning about them for the first time.
For ages 2-5.
With thanks to Netgalley for providing a sample reading copy.
Everything about this book was so cute. The kids appreciating Mamasaurus, the artwork and rhymes. My 5 and 2 year old loved it.
This adorable picture book just made me guffaw, with its fun illustrations and creative tale. Perfect for the young dinosaur lovers in your life!
This was an enjoyable read, teaching kids (and adults) about the dinosaur food chain. I read this to some of my nieces and nephews and they loved following along with the dinosaurs. The illustrations were fantastic, with great use of bold colours that hooked the readers in. Easy enough for beginner readers to take control of story time!
This picture book was actually published in 2023 but we missed it back then and thought it was too good not to point out. With a repetitive text and brilliant larger-than-life characters - called Smallosaurus and Badasaurus and Worseasaurus - it's the voice that makes this picture book absolutely hilarious.
Smallosaurus just wants to eat a patch of juicy ferns. But Badosaurus isn't going to let her eat them in peace. And that's the way it sometimes was when dinosaurs walked the earth...until Worseasaurus comes along...
This is a tale of a small dinosaur coming out of top in a laugh-out-loud hilarious escapade. It deals in facts in a totally deadpan way and is a definite must for Jon Klassen fans. Told with a very child-like viewpoint, it will appeal to the sense of humour of young listeners who are very likely to ask for it over and over. These are the picture books I am most in awe of; those with minimal text but which just get how to make children (and adults) laugh and laugh and laugh.
Another fun book for dino lovers! The illustrations are more cartoonish and hand drawn in the book making it great for very young readers (this way they don’t get scared of the real life illustrations that could be in other books) Readers will enjoy the adventure of looking for something to eat with the dinosaurs!
When dinosaurs walked the earth explains how the food chain works, and it is since the prehistoric age. The dinosaurs might not walked the earth anymore, but somehow, the chain is still exist. This is a good way explaining to children how this world works, from way back then to present time, this is how the world works.
So vibrant and so pleasing to the eyes.
The Smallasaurus is hungry and looking for food. And it comes across Badasaurus. Grrrrr. Now what??
This is brilliant. My kid loves dinosaurs and this was a real treat for her. She enjoyed it thoroughly.
Thank you so much Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the ARC in exchange of an honest review.
Using humorous names such as ‘Smallasaurus’, ‘Badasaurus’ and ‘Worseasaurus’, award winning author of childrens books, Sean Taylor, ably supported by award winning illustrator, Zehra Hicks, strives to illustrate the food chain during the era dinosaurs were freely roaming and inhabiting Planet Earth.
Poor little Smallasaurus needs to be on its heels always lest she falls prey to the notorious Badasaurus who is always on the prowl for making a proper meal out of a plant eating tiny dinosaur such as Smallasaurus. If you thought that was bad, just wait until you reach the pages detailing the predatory predilections of the Grand Daddy of them all, the Worseasaurus.
Towering over the rest of the dinosaurs like a massive skyscraper, Worseasaurus, chomps big dinosaurs such as Badasaurus for a hobby! How poor Smallasuarus manages to survive in such a dangerous world makes up the quintessence of this small (no pun intended) book.
“When Dinosaurs Walked the Earth”, is published by Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children’s Books and will be available for sale from the 6th of February 2024.

An adorable book with simple story. It's a fun read even for adult. The illustrations are cute and the name of the dinosaurus were fun. It's a good way to teach children and learn about problem solving and about chain analysis.
I love a non-fiction picture book! This is such a great combination of story and fact, and I know that there are lots of dinosaur enthusiasts who will love this.
The art is beautiful and the colours are so eye-catching and the text is engaging and fun!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an advanced copy of this story to review!
When Dinosaurs Walked the Earth is a cute little story that introduces the concept of the food chain in an easy to understand way for little children! The illustrations are so cute and my little guy loved saying "oh no!' when smallosaurus was being chased by the bigger dinosaurs!
Anyone with a little who loves dinosaurs will love this book!
