I felt really mixed about this book. On the one hand, I love reading trash wolf books. It's my not-so-guilty pleasure, and this is definitely better than more than half the trash I've consumed. On the other hand, I found it incredibly difficult to like Connor for most of the book, and the chemistry between him and Ana felt rather forced, which made it difficult to really get sucked in. Personally, I needed more groveling on his end. I feel like Ana gave in to him physically too soon, apologized for more than she should have, and Connor got away with too much. From a logical, backstory-based standpoint, I do understand him and his actions. No, that does not make me like him more. However, I still enjoyed the storyline, and the side characters really kept me in, so I'll still be continuing with the rest of the series because, again, I am a sucker for wolf trash and I'm eager for the new POVs (because I really do think I'd have liked it more if not for Connor).
Actual rating: 3.5/5.

Good story. Although, I'm not the biggest fan of miscommunication. A lot of time was wasted when Connor would tell Ana why he left originally. I enjoyed all the side stories. Well-written. Pretty sexy story.

I’ve never read a werewolf romance before and this certainly was an excellent and DEEEP introduction…if you know what I mean 😏😉.

Great writing and thoughtful relationships and a female main character that isn’t whiny as hell. There is really good POV here into each main characters mind and I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and it kept me guessing all the way to the end. The intimate scenes were intense and finger licking good 🥵 I was thirst trapped and then my every desire was filled. I would 100% recommend this to anyone who like paranormal/fantasy romance books! I usually like more high fantasy and this was still great! I am looking forward to the next book!

Ana has survived losing most of her pack and now she is the alpha of an all-female pack. She knows she can't hold off men from moving in forever, but she never expected the one man she loved 50 years ago to come back. And she certainly never expected him to want to be with her and help her run her pack. Can she learn to trust him even after their rocky past? Can they become successful running a combined pack? Will the bad guy stop them from being successful?

Ana is a good character. I like that she is strong and capable but still recognizes that having Connor by her side will make her stronger. There's a lot of back and forth about whether she can trust him but that all made sense given their history. I like the choices the author made rolling out the story of why Connor left her 50 years ago. Connor could use a little more rounding out but he is a solid character. It made total sense that he left Ana and that he felt that this was the time to return. I feel like the emotional punch in the story really centered around Ana. There are multiple bad guys. Some are more menacing than others. The author spent a lot of time setting up multiple storylines for future stories.

I felt like the story wasn't as fluid as it could be. The author chose to create a very big world around the two main characters so that led to some of the unevenness. Basically, there's just a whole lot going on but at least it's set in place for the rest of the series.

This is a contemporary paranormal romance. This is a second chance romance. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new series to read because this book is all about introducing a whole new world. I will definitely read more from this author in the futur.e

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for an advanced copy of the 2nd edition of this book in exchange for an honest review.

There are things I love about shifter romances that Alpha Instinct delivered on, like fated mates and primal instincts. There are things I dislike about shifter romances that Alpha Instinct also delivered on, like very gendered language/roles. I also felt like A LOT was going on in this book, with too many enemies coming for the Cordona pack at one time, and occasionally too many different POVs. Still, I felt like the concept was interesting, and the characters were mostly likable, so I'm interested in sticking with the series and seeing some of the storylines progress.

I enjoyed the characters and their dynamics. Would have liked it more with one enemy or at least connected enemies. It got a bit distracting. Also hit every trope in the book.

This book completely blew me away. As a devotee of shifter tales, especially those featuring Wolf shifters, I found the storyline to be exceptionally well-crafted, effortlessly pulling me into its narrative web. The emotional journey was intense, as I experienced a rollercoaster of feelings while immersed in the world created by the author.
The dynamic between Ana and Connor was nothing short of perfect, and the supporting cast of characters added depth with their interesting and relatable personas.

Ana and Connor get a second chance at love, but can they keep their enemies at bay?

This was exactly what you would expect from a story about werewolves with internal pack dynamics, conflict with outside packs, the arrogant and dominant alpha, mating rituals, etc. The pack in this book was targeted by several different enemies, who weren’t linked to each other. This was a bit distracting and I think diluted the story somewhat.

I really liked Ana. Accepting Connor’s proposal of mating and leading the new combined pack was difficult for her, but she realized that her pack needed his help to survive. Taking him up on his offer didn’t mean she just capitulated. She challenged him, his ideas, and his behavior, and made him see the value in having a true partnership.

There were a couple of things left open-ended that I assumed will carry over to the next book, but all of the conflicts were solved satisfactorily. All-in-all, this was a good, solid read. I can recommend it if you like steamy romance with werewolves. I will definitely be reading more of this series.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Alpha's Instinct by Katie Reus is such a wonderful read. For someone who love a shifter book, this book have a very well written storyline.

This book got a little of past lover, mourning and grieving, plenty of explicit spicy scenes, action packed, betrayal, suspense, angst and heart breaking moments. There's a lot of issues going on in Ana's pack and Connor come back to give his mate protection and more.

I'll definitely be waiting forward for more from Katie Reus and perhaps the next story.

This is the first book I have read by this author. I enjoyed the paranormal shifter storyline. I am usually a dual POV reader and this is 3rd person but I didn’t feel like I was confused to who was speaking or who’s POV we were reading at any point.
I would class this as an easy read, there isn’t really too much to it, I was semi gripped from the beginning, the characters were interesting and there was plenty of storylines. Maybe one too many storylines happening in tandem which were all kind of nearly fixed towards the end. There were some underlying plots with the main characters and emotions I felt were kind of skimmed over and all was forgotten.
The FMC Ana, is an Alpha in her pack but when all the males are murdered the females face numerous threats, until the MMC Connor arrives with a pack of his own and offers protection and help if they unite together. They both were in love in the past but when he suddenly left with no explanation and Ana was heartbroken there is a lot more to his arrival than helping an old friend.
There were a few side characters that were interesting but I'm not sure if I will continue the series as there just seemed like this book tried to put too many side plots in to lead to the fact this book was going to be the first in a long series

I am thankful for the opportunity the publisher gave to me through an ARC via NetGalley.

I was looking forward to reading Alpha Instinct because the blurb sounded right up my alley. That being said, while I absolutely love paranormal werewolves and shifters of all kinds, I was a bit disappointed with this book. It read more like a wattpad story (grammar wise and pacing wise), and the characters were consistently repeating themselves on mundane things (I get it, but seriously, how many times do I have to be reminded about this or that?).

This book is recommended for people who are looking for an easy to read, heavy on the miscommunication trope, werewolf romance.

Ana Cordona is the alpha of her pack after all the males were murdered and her parents, they were poisoned by an unknown person and they had been vigilant ever since

connor is also an alpha of his pack of mercenary wolves and hes back to claim ana, who he has loved for over 50 years and he ran away from her years ago

but danger surrounds ana's pack starting with her neighbour but its someone closer to her that she should be more aware of....

a brilliant read that kept me glued right to the end..cant wait for the second book in this brilliant series

Good start to the series

I enjoyed Analena and Connor’s fated mates, second chance romantic suspense tale. This was a heartwarming, suspenseful, and healing story about family bonds, loyalty, and choice. Ana is a wolf shifter who has alpha tendencies but is not an Alpha. After all the males and pregnant females in her pack were recently poisoned she is the dead facto alpha of the remaining 13 female shifters. She knows she needs help to keep her pack from being taken over by a pack not of her choosing and to protect her against Taggert, a ruthless alpha wolf shifter from a nearby pack who wants Ana and her land. Connor who was once poor and packless is now an Alpha wolf shifter who has not seen Ana in 50 years. His pack is made up of 10 males from the warrior class. He returns with money and a recognized pack with a proposition. He’s looking to settle down and wants Ana for his bond mate. To get to their HEA and protect Ana’s pack and family land they’ll have to deal with their past baggage while dogging danger from Taggert as well as danger and prejudice from humans. The book had a number of chapters told from POVs other than the two MCs. I do not always like this method of moving the storyline, but this was done well here. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline as told through sweet moments, steamy scenes, dangerous situations, evil actors, pack politics, fated mates, loyal friends, painful pasts, and laughs. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Ana is struggling to maintain her pack after a terrible tragedy killed all of the males and pregnant females. She's being pressured by a rival pack and is afraid the Council will force her pack to merge with another one.

Her prayers - and fears - are answered when Connor, her childhood crush, saves her from an attack and announces he wants her as his mate. Decades ago, she thought they might end up together, but he disappeared without a trace. Now that he's back, she's afraid to fall back into her crush in case he leaves again.

Alpha Instinct is classic paranormal romance - a strong FMC who's submissive only to him, an alpha MMC who'd burn the world for her, and several clandestine forces out to get them.

I loved Connor and his brother! They had a great dynamic and were both dominant without becoming total alphaholes.

The angst level was moderate, but prepare some tissues anyway. There's one part in particular that will tear your heart out!

Alpha Instinct was a steamy slow burn romance that has me excited for the rest of the books in the series!

Thank you, Katie Reus and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Have have never read a book this author has written I didn’t enjoy, and this is no exception! When Ana, alpha of her pack, is being threatened by a neighboring Alpha, who should come to her rescue? Connor hasn’t seen Ana in over 50 years, and he’s not expecting to be welcomed with open arms, but when he comes upon her on the verge of being assaulted by another Alpha, what better to restart the relationship then rescuing her, or not!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

I so loved this series years ago and I loved revisiting it now! Great story with lots of depth in the characters. I can’t wait to get back to the rest of them again! Ana and Connor will make your heart sing.

A second chance romance with a possessive/protective Hero, a smart, capable heroine, and two packs who merge into one to take on the multiple outside forces determined to bring them down.

Ana and Connors story had so much going on that it made it harder for me to guess who was behind the poisoning. If that was part of the feud with the neighboring pact, or even part of the humans who hated shifters. There were no dull moments and I came to love so many of the side characters.

I enjoyed the start of this series, and I love knowing future books will be about any of the side characters I get to know in each book. I look forward to reading more in the series.

Alpha Instinct is book one in the Moon Shifters series and features Ana and Connor's Story. Ana's father was the Alpha of their pack, but after his death via poisoning she becomes a leader for them. While Ana is having issues with the Alpha from the neighboring pack, her ex Connor comes back and offers his protection and declares he will also be her mate. Ana has to deal with all the emotions of seeing him again, and the fact that their chemistry is still there. On top of that there's a lot of issues that arise and threaten pack safety for the Cordonas.

I am a big Katie Reus fan and this series is new to me and I was really captivated and found myself really drawn in to the story. I was reading this every free moment I had. I was interested in not just the two main characters, but the members of the pack as well. I really liked Ana. I thought she was a very capable heroine and found her to be fair. I sort of have mixed feelings about Connor. I understand why he did some of his actions but he was a lousy communicator for too long in the story in my opinion and that had me frustrated at times. Also Katie added a cute little jaguar cub so that was a bonus.

I will say I found this series a bit darker than some of the other stuff from Katie Reus that I am used to. I still enjoyed it, but it is a different vibe than say the Ancient Risings series.

Overall, this was a fun read and a good introduction to this series. You will enjoy this if you love second-chance romance, shifters, and multiple pov. I am really excited for Liam and December's book and for the novella after this.

The first book in a re-published early series from this author. I have been a longtime fan of hers so I was excited to get to read a book in a series I had somehow missed.

The story is classic KA writing, plot and story telling. It draws you in and keeps you hooked. I was a little shocked at some of the deaths since I didn't see them coming. (And I was honestly NOT happy about one in particular).

I was a little put off by some of the how the MMC would do what he needed to without really consulting the FMC. She was willing and accepting of him being 'alpha' but he wasn't really respecting her as his partner for a while. And the big secret drags on a loooong time and wasn't surprising. Its a common plot point that I am never a fan of.

Excited to read more of this series as all of the books re-release.
