Dani travels to Marbella to try and make sense of a tragic event that happened three years ago; when her best friend Aoife was killed on her hen do. Dani invites the other hens along to try and re-enact what happened previously. Will she discover the truth about what really happened?
After reading the blurb I was intrigued to read this, the cover caught my eye also, but I worried that it would be quite samey to other thrillers. I was pleasantly surprised! Although a similar storyline to some other books, the way it is written is refreshing and manages to stand out. I really enjoyed seeing all the character’s personalities grow, they are so well written and I loved all the drama that follows. The story is written in two timelines, both which are captivating and entertaining. Slowly lots of secrets come to light and I found myself very engaged in the overall story. This is a perfect summer read and I will be recommending to others. I haven’t read any books by this author but I will definitely be adding her past books to my wish list! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.
This book will no doubt be on the summertime list of must-reads. Thank you NetGallery for allowing me to read it.
Dani’s best friend Aoife dies, while on her hen weekend away. Only Dani can’t remember the events leading up to it or what actually happened. Fast-forward to three years on and she arranges a memorial weekend to Marbella where it all happened. While the other “hens” agree to go they are annoyed that she has chosen the exact villa where they stayed and that she intends to revisit each activity in an effort of jogging her memory and finding closure.
Through a series of flashbacks we see what really happened as each “hen” has a different version of that fateful weekend away. There are secrets, lies, jealousy and mistrust, which are all unveiled as the plot gathers speed. I thoroughly enjoyed the final twist at the end and highly recommend this book.
I will certainly read more of her work.
I loved this! The concept isn't particularly original, but it's one I really enjoy.
I really enjoyed getting to know the five women, I thought their personalities really shone through and it was so fun finding out what secrets they were hiding. They seemed like real people and their behaviour/actions were consistent and made sense. I liked the writing style and the setting was great too. I was fully invested in the story and never wanted to put my kindle down whilst reading.
I can't think of anything I didn't like about this book and would 100% recommend it.
I used to live in Marbella so the setting was very relevant to me, and I enjoyed reading about the location.
Unfortunately that’s probably the only thing I did really enjoy.. 5 very unlikeable girls go on a hen weekend, only 4 return and 3 years later the 4 hens return to relive the weekend in the hope of one of them remembering what happened. A lot of belief had to be suspended with some of the things that happened and by the end I didn’t really care! A good book to read on holiday if you want something light and mind numbing but I certainly won’t be re reading it!
Dani arranges an anniversary trip to Marbella three years on from her best friend's hen do that ends in tragedy. She has experienced gaps in memory since that fateful night and is keen to find out what really happened to beat friend, Aoife.
Friendships, betrayal and corruption, a captivating read to keep you guessing until the end.
With thanks to netgalley and penguin for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
I have read every book buy this author. and another addictive read. Dani can't get over her best friends Aoife death. She was murdered in Spain and Dani was there, but she cannot remember what happened. it was supposed to be an amazing hen party for Aoife.in Spain withe her friends. Celine Beth Tiff and Dani .so Dani persuades the girls to go back to Spain for Aoife's anniversary but she did not tell them they are staying in the villa where it happened so she can try and remember. it's a very addictive read that keeps you wanting to keep reading. Lies Deceit and jealousy. Someone does not want Dani to remember.
I really enjoyed this one, Dani is desperate to find answers about a night she cannot remember. A night that changed her life. It was an interesting take on a murder mystery and I really enjoyed it. Would recommend to anyone who likes a book with lots of twists and turns!
Three years ago, a group of friends went to celebrates Aoife's hen party in Marbella. But between the various tensions within the group, and events that could not have been foreseen, Aoife ends up dead. And one of her friends, Dani, has no clear memories of the night when she was killed.
Unable to come to terms with what has happened, Dani orchestrates a return to the scene of the crime on the third anniversary of the murder. Her stated aim is to regain her memories so that she can move on with her life the way that the others three have.
Somewhat reluctantly, the other hens agree to join her for the trip. But they have no idea what Dani's real plans are...
This is an interesting take on a somewhat overdone trope. Jess Ryder has done a good job of throwing in a number of twists in this book, which breathes new life into a familiar storyline. Worth a read if you enjoy a good thriller.
After reading a number of books based on a villa and a hen party i was a bit wary about this one. Thought it might be worthwhile though because of who the author was. So glad i went for it, this was a cracker. Well written characters terrific storyline and the ending.....i did not see that coming. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy. Excellent read.
I really enjoyed this story! There was so much anxiety and a dark backstory that I found myself just as confused as one of the character’s was when she was reconstructing previous tragic events of her friend Aoifes hen party in Marbella. I loved the characters and the setting. It reminded me so much of my first time away with the girls, young carefree and alcohol fuelled. I recommend! A gripping thriller that will keep you up all night, you might want to check the locks on your doors now!
Plot is somewhat overdone these days. Dani wants to return to the Villa where her friend died because she feels like she can't remember what happened. While there, memories come back, friends stab each other in the back; no one is who they say they are. Didn't see a lot of the twists coming. Overall, the book was good; just a little long since the plot has been overdone in my opinion.
