I really enjoyed this book! Wasn’t my typical romance but the slow burn was burninggg and the neurodivergent representation was amazing to see. Fake dating has to be one of my favourite tropes and this was just *chefs kiss*

This was such a lovely read, I loved the representation and the way Andrew loves Pippa exactly as she is throughout the story. I also loved that Pippa was able to live beyond what she thought her comfort zone was and find happiness with others without changing who she was at her core. The steamier scenes were great, and I enjoyed the build up of tension prior to them. I also really liked that their families were completely different but you were able to see how both MCs had been brought up loved and supported.

This was such a fun and cute read. The vibes it gave me were perfect as a summer or beach read! It had me smiling and laughing so many times! I have always loved reading neurodivergent characters, and reading Pippa, our FMC, was such a fun experience. She was so genuine you can't help but empathise and relate to her at times. Andrew, our MMC, was so cute, lighthearted and just so perfect for Pippa. I loved how he loved and treasured Pippa the way he did.

Friends to lovers is one of my favourite tropes, and I loved reading Pippa and Andrew's story of how they went from strangers to friends to lovers; it was so wholesome and cute.

If you like romcoms, you must read this one.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

‘How’s my favorite ATC today? This is Flightbird Six Zero Zero.’‘You really shouldn’t have favorites,’ I said with a smile , even though he was my favorite pilot too.

In the beginning, the the story was light-hearted and amusing and I was loving the way Pippa spoke so candidly to the people around her. Andrew was also genuinely a very good guy and he was undoubtedly the best fit for Pippa. He understood her and always made her feel good about herself and that's what made him feel very attractive in my eyes. Pippa had autism and the way her character was sketched, she felt like a real person. I could sympathize with her and her monologues were really sad. But I was so glad that she eventually realised her feelings because Andrew really made her see herself in a different light. She was awkward, outspoken and sometimes oblivious but she was perfect the way she was. I really enjoyed reading about her quirks and watching her blurting out random facts whenever she was nervous was so funny. Apart from that, Andrew & Pippa had an insane amount of chemistry and the slow burn was really enjoyable. The writing was good, though I really liked the second half more than the first tbh. Also, the last few chapters were very cute and made me smile! Overall, this was a pretty fine book but it wasn't exceptional, in my opinion it's quite forgettable and mildly entertaining but I'm sure those who really like a quick, light-hearted and quirky read, will be pleased by reading this book. So, I'd raree it a solid 3.5 stars.

REVIEW
cw: mentions of addiction, adoption, bullying, ableism
When both ATC Pippa Edwards and pilot Andrew Boyce-Jones need to find themselves fake-dates, they turn to each other. Despite having spoken to each other almost daily for six months, they've never having met in person.
Jo Watson NEVER misses. This book was SO adorable but also poignant and beautifully written. I truly empathised with both Pippa and Andrew at different points in the story, especially given my own family's experiences with neurodivergence.
Their dialogue felt vibrant and authentic, and I adored all of their interactions. From the reunion, vineyard, museum, and aquarium in Cape Town to their family interactions, there was always such a genuine connection between them, and I loved how Pippa flourished around Andrew. I loved Pippa's friendships with Leroy and Blessing, and I particularly appreciated how Andrew's respectful understanding of Pippa, as well as his gentle adoration, helped her to open up to new experiences. The slow burn was exquisite. Their 'pugs' were wonderfully adorable, and their chemistry felt palpable. Also? I have never been more jealous of someone getting their hair braided in my entire life! Their interactions at work were so sweet, and the inner workings of Air Traffic Control was fascinating. As for the final chapters? Wow! This book would make THE most amazing romantic movie.
A wonderful and uplifting story of love and acceptance.

‘I don’t like it when people have fingers like King Charles – sausagey. It’s very off-putting. But you have good fingers.’‘Uh . . . thanks. I don’t think anyone has ever complimented my fingers before.’

‘You do more than you think for me.’

Sometimes it felt as if there was no barrier between me and the outside world. I was porous, the energy of the world rushing straight through my skin and into me. Rushing into my body unfiltered and ready to consume me. Other people’s skin acted like a barrier between their insides and the world around them, but mine did not. Everything penetrated me. In moments like these I needed some silence, some stillness to push back the world around me so I could breathe again.

I tilted my head back and forth, taking him all in, and then I started nodding. ‘Good!’ I closed my one eye. ‘Good proportions. Perhaps a bit more girth than I’m used to, but good.’
'Wow. Did you just review my d**k?’
'It was a good review though.’

'I know you better than you think I know you.’

‘My all-time favorite conversations have been with you...'

'...those are literally all the things I love most about you.’

‘I want all the frozen things with you. I’ll even have the sweetcorn, even though it gets stuck in the back of my throat– wait, that didn’t sound right– what I’m trying to say is I love you too. There, I said it! I love you.’

Review for 'Love At First Flight' by Jo Watson.

Read and reviewed for Jo Watson, NetGalley, Headline Eternal and Headline Publishers.

Publication date 18th January 2024..

This is the first book I have read by this author but it most definitely will not be my last!!
This novel consists of 46 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

What an absolutely fantastic laugh a minute, heart warming, stunning must read!!! Absolutely loved it fair play!!! This book has fantastic descriptions that set you straight in the scenes. The cover, title and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly.

The storyline itself was absolutely unputdownable so make sure you clear your schedules before starting to read it!!

OMG!!! I absolutely love, LOVE, LOVED this absolutely gorgeous book!!! I must say it has got to be one of the best romances I have ever read!! In this stunning story we meet Pippa who is going to her high school reunion but is absolutely dreading it!! Pippa has ASD and is dreading all the typical questions she is bound to get asked at the reunion such as why she is still single. She comes up with a perfect solution of a fake date. Pippa meets Andrew who is a pilot that she has only talked to once when helping him land the plane via the control tower. Andrew dreads the family meetings where he is constantly asked about his love life. Pippa and Andrew are both in the same situation so have the perfect solution of fake dating!! Will it work out or is it a disaster in the making? To find out you'll just have to grab your copy of this stunning book today!! The first thing I have got to say is congratulations Jo on taking your ASD diagnosis and turning it into something positive, successful and stunning!! I am a mum of twins with ASD and I was absolutely landed to discover the protagonist of this amazing book also had ASD but not only that but was created by someone who is on the spectrum themselves so actually knows about it personally, just absolutely brilliant!! I have ready many books that the authors have used characters with ALN but have not done any research and it can be devastating as a parent as well as have negative consequences on people with ASD when they are described in books as doing certain things or acting in certain ways that would never happen! Anyway, sorry, I went on a bit there but I just wanted to say well done. Anyway, on with the actual book!! I absolutely loved this beautiful slow burn romance that had me hooked from the first word to the last. It is absolutely rammed with humour, love, friendship, synonyms, planes, laughter and just absolutely anything and everything you could ask for in a stunning page turner! I love that the main characters Pippa and Andrew are complete opposites but how Andrew understands Pippa and her fears. They are amazing characters separately as well as together and I just loved seeing their characters and relationship grow throughout the book. It really is a stunning read with beautiful characters and I was gutted when I came to the end. I was completely invested in the characters and the storyline throughout. This is a stunning book by by Jo with multiple layers and many unique and unforgettable characters as well as so much going on!!! Jo's fantastic evocative descriptions ensures the reader can see and feel everything that the characters are felling and seeing and it felt like I had been sucked into the storyline with them. This is a story and characters that will stay with me for a very long time!! Pick up your copy of this stunner and get ready to jump on a rollercoaster ride of emotions from love, laughter, happiness where you will laugh out loud and cry with happiness!!! I was absolutely addicted to this book and just could not put it down!!! There was no chance of just one more chapter and I ended up devouring it in a day!!! I cannot wait to get the rest of the books by this extremely talented author!! The setting and atmosphere was absolutely gorgeous and I loved watching the characters relationships change throughout. It really is one of those feel good books that is perfect to read curled up in front of a fire or lying on the beach. I could go on and on but seriously just get your copy and get sucked in. Your really won't regret it!!
An absolutely stunning, page turning MUST READ!!

A MASSIVE WELL DONE to Jo on a HUGE success!!! I loved every page of your book and I cannot wait to read more past and future amazing books. This is exactly why I would like to welcome to you to my top 3 romance author list!! Here's to your next success 🥂!

Overall an unputdownable, unforgettable, stunning romcom that will have you staying up late at night to finish it.

I’m so happy to be a part of the blog tour today for ‘Love At First Flight’

I don’t know about you but I have been noticing over the last 6 months the amount of air travel based romance books and I know there are another handful coming out soon too and I am so happy about it! I’m not a plane lover at all myself but I do love reading about the real life of flight attendants and the behind the scenes of people who work in airports and plane travel as I think it always seems a bit mysterious!

This book is about an air traffic controller and a pilot, and some fake dating! A super easy and fun read!!

Here is the blurb -
Things Pippa enjoys: her job, airplanes, synonyms and tropical fish.

Things Pippa does not enjoy: repeating patterns, tight clothes, people asking why she’s single and school reunions.

After four months of only speaking over intercom, when air-traffic controller Pippa Edwards finally meets pilot Andrew Boyce-Jones face-to-face, they discover they’ve got much more in common than simply working at the same airport.

In fact . . . they both need a date.

Tired of every relationship ending before it’s even begun, Pippa wants to evade the inevitable questions at her dreaded ten-year school reunion in Cape Town. And Andrew needs to get his well-meaning family off his back about settling down.

The solution seems simple. A pact - a fake dating pact - for as long as it’s mutually beneficial. It’s perfect.

Or at least it would be if their very real attraction wasn’t about to make Pippa question everything she thought she wanted. . .

The book is out on January 18th
*ARC from NetGalley ✨

Pippa is an air traffic control, while Andrew is a pilot, but while the two have never met, although have spoken over the intercom for the last six months, when they do meet it may just be the saving grace they both need.

While Pippa is avoiding her dating life and her school reunion, Andrew is avoiding his friends and family about his relationship status. But the two may just be able to help each other out.

Watson gives us a laugh-out-loud novel with unique and realistic characters, I loved how Pippa’s autism is represented in this novel

This narrative is thought-provoking and captivating I felt a slight tension at one point when I was reading, but this author gives us all the right endings and this is a novel I would recommend for any romance lover.

Why haven’t I heard of Jo Watson before?!! Such a brilliant read and one that totally and utterly broke my star rating system! Jo Watson is a new author to me and another one I will definitely be looking out for in the future.

Pippa loves being an Air Traffic Controller but hates being hassled constantly about why she isn’t in a relationship! When a high school reunion whatapp group pops up on her phone she isn’t sure about attending. Her best friend Jennifer who went to the same school can’t make the reunion but begs Pippa to go on her behalf and find out what everyone they went to school with is now doing. However when Pippa finds herself sitting in the airport café just before her flight she starts to change her mind about going but then she recognises a voice….. Flightbird Six Zero Zero whom for 6 months within her Air Traffic Control role she has been guiding to safe landings. He has made a good impression on her with his voice being her favourite and she enjoys their brief conversations over the radio. Flightbird Six Zero Zero, who is actually called Andrew, asks if he can join her and they end up talking about how difficult being single is when family and friends keep questioning their single relationship status. Suddenly Pippa comes up with an idea to help them both out- they can be fake boyfriend and girlfriend. Despite Andrew being initially taken aback with the suggestion he quickly warms to the idea and thinks it’s a good idea to solve their respective problems. However, the more time they spend with each other and with each other’s friends and family the more the relationship seems more real than fake especially as neither can deny the sparks that fly when they are together. Will Pippa and Andrew face up to how they both feel about each other and is their fake relationship destined for a smooth flight or will the turbulence be too much for the both of them?!

Wow, wow and wow!! Big statement coming; this book is in the top 3 best reads I have ever had! Honestly, I had a feeling I would enjoy it as I am definitely an airplane geek, so it was right up my street being about planes and air traffic control with some rom com thrown in, and it did not disappoint. However, I didn’t think it would be an all time favourite…. So much so, I have done something I have never done before with a Netgalley ARC and I have ordered the e-book off amazon so I have a proper copy of it, I know I will be re reading this one A LOT! Right from the beginning it was promising as it made me laugh out loud and the laughs didn’t stop, the story made me cackle so much, I don’t think I have ever read a book that was so chuckle inducing, so brilliant job Jo Watson. I absolutely loved Pippa, and I also loved Andrew too, two amazing main characters whom I adored. I absolutely loathed Delia and Tertia, but I won’t say anymore as this is a spoiler free review. I found Pippa being autistic was actually very thought provoking and, as I don’t know anyone in real life who has autism, it was very interesting to see the world the way Pippa did, she was quite hard on herself at times when she definitely shouldn’t have been, she was a lot better with people and situations than she thought she was. I am not sure I have ever slowed down my reading so much, but I really did with this book as I didn’t want it to ever end, I loved how I was completely lost in the story when reading and it made me feel so good whilst reading.

All in all, I honestly can’t rate this book high enough, 6* (and that really breaks my star rating system). Utterly brilliant and I can’t wait to get my paid copy so I can get lost in Pippa and Andrew’s world all over again!

Thank you to NetGalley, Jo Watson and Headline Eternal Publishing for my advanced reading copy. Out 18th January 2024.

I read and loved Jo’s last book and Love at first flight is another book I can definitely say I enjoyed.

This has everything I love in a book Including fake dating which is one of my favourite tropes of all time. I loved curling up with this book during the evenings and it didn’t take me long to finish this at all.

I loved that Jo had her main character as someone who is autistic which is something you don’t get much of in books And I liked how Jo was inspired by her own diagnosis in order to write the character.

I'm excited to share my thoughts on Love At First Flight, the newest novel by @Jowatsonwrites - this is my second Watson read! Thanks to the author and to @headlineeternal for the pre-release eBook!
Watson has a real writing talent. I find her books really easy to read with excellent pacing - she definitely appeals to me as a writer and I look forward to picking up more of her work in the future.

Tropes that cheer me up on a cold evening: fake dating, friends-to-lovers, workplace romance with spice. This one had all of the above!

We follow Pippa, an air traffic controller who is on the spectrum, as she excels at life. She's awesome at her job, she's got two impeccably trained guard dogs, and a quaint cottage, but lacks a date to her upcoming high school reunion. Enter Flightbird Six Zero Zero, aka Andrew Boyce-Jones, the pilot who she's only spoken to over the radio for the last few months. Guess who needs a date for a family wedding? You guessed it - my new book boyfriend Flightbird Six Zero Zero. As fake dating tropes go, you know how it plays out.
Their romance is so cute, though. I could read about these two for years and not tire of it. They're so flipping cute that I cannot express how much I love them together. Pippa is socially awkward but her heart is in the right place. Andrew is so in tune with her and so attentive, he does deserve his place among the book boyfriends of old. I did enjoy the characters and the plotline, as typical as all fake-dating stories are. There's one bit towards the end though, and when I tell you the stakes were so high that I sat bolt upright while I was reading it... no spoilers, but I was really on the edge of my seat for a while there!

If you're looking for an easy-read romance, this is one to pick up!

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Love At First Flight actually had a unique start in terms of the characters and their jobs and I really liked that aspect. Also introducing a main character with autism but I cannot comment on the strength of this representation as that is not my place and should be left to someone who can.

However, this book has a pet peeve of mine and that is single POV. I find this rarely works in romance as you have to like the main character enough to follow only their view and the other character is only seen through their eyes. Then comes the ‘why is he so nice’ and that’s when I get a bit bored by it. However this is personal preference and there will be those who don’t mind single POVs at all.

It is a sweet, slow burn romance with a unique twist in terms of the pilot/air controller relationship and I can easily see this be appealing to many romance readers.

Pippa & Andrew ❤️

✈️Pippa’s a neurodivergent air traffic controller based at the Johannesburg airport, one of the busiest in Africa.

☕️She’s never met her favourite pilot, but they share some banter over the radio calls when he’s coming into land. Until one day he recognises her voice when she’s ready to board a flight to her school reunion.

❤️Soon the fake dating pact they make feels more like real dating, but it’s confusing for Pippa to accept.

📚I just adore that Jo Watson is one of the few romcom authors I have read that actually lives in the same country and same city as me! And her stories, this latest no exception, are filled with sweet and kind heroines, book boyfriends that are charming and pretty swoony, and some life challenges. Adore ❤️

Wow this may be Jo Watson's best book to date! It feels slightly different but it's no less awesome as a result.

I couldn't read enough about Pippa, I absolutely loved her, and seeing her getting into a fake dating situation which is one of my favourite tropes was just brilliant.

She is neuro-diverse, and a totally brilliant air traffic controller (not a profession I've seen featured for a main character of a book before), which was rather refreshing. She clearly likes the voice of one of the pilots but it isn't until they meet and discover there are some similarities between them that things start to get really interesting.

Watching Pippa slowly emerge from her comfort zone, with Andrew is joy to see. It's clear he understands her better than she thinks he does, and I completely fell in love with Andrew myself.

From their first fake dating mission, Pippa's high school reunion in Cape Town, they are finding their feet, but the level of support Andrew offers her is just impressive. And the following days in the vineyard tour with wine tasting, and then museums that they both like, you can tell it's the start of something special.

And meeting each others families, what a contrast. I adored ever second spent with Andrew's brood, and well Pippa's family were well impressive but in a different way.

I loved every thought that Pippa had, and I really adored the fact that she isn't ashamed to say she plays the Pokémon Trading Card game, something that I have played a lot of in the past, and the passing mention of Magic The Gathering, another game I know far too well, pleased my inner geek a lot!

Just what a fabulous book, it's not the smoothest or most obvious of romances, for Pippa at least, but that is just what makes it all the more real.

Loved loved loved the characters, the setting, and just everything about this book.

Thank you to Headline Eternal and Netgalley for this copy which I have I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

When Pippa and Andrew are both fed up of questions from their familes about relationships, Pippa takes control and suggests they fake date. Both career driven with relationships at the back of their mind.

Starting with her high school reunion, they set themselves plenty of rules!

- Fake Dating
- Single POV

I really wanted to love this book but unfortunately it's just not for me. When I first couldn't get into the book I thought it was due to me reading it while reading a series, but after trying to give it a second try I felt like I was pushing myself to read it!
I really like how the author included Pippa being on the autism spectrum, it gave the book a lot of individuality and makes it stand out from others.

I was kindly gifted this book in return for an honest review via NetGalley

Thanks so much to Netgalley and Headline for providing me with an eARC of this book.

I loved this so much, it tugged on every heartstring. I laughed, I cried, I screamed at them to JUST GET TOGTHER ALREADY and giggled and kicked my feet when they finally did.

We follow Pippa, an air traffic controller, and Andrew, a pilot, embark on a fake relationship to stop people from constantly questioning why they're prioritising their careers over a relationship.

Pippa's on the autism spectrum and seeing the world from her perspective was so refreshing. She's endearing and so funny, her internal monologues and fact sharing had me laughing out loud. Andrew was so swoon-worthy. He was everything I wanted from a book boyfriend- funny, understanding and sexy. The chemistry between the two was electric, the banter was great and they were so heartwarming together.

This was definitely reminiscent of reading The Kiss Quotient for me (one of my absolute favourites) and I would definitely recommend this to anyone that loved that book!

I really loved Pippa and Andrew as individuals so their story was such a good read for me! It was really interesting for me to read a book with a FMC on the autism spectrum as this is not something I have come across often.

This book surprised me in that I found moments hilarious but also both heart warming and heart breaking.

Thank you to Netgalley and Headline Eternal for the arc.

Pippa is dreading going to her highshool reunion, seeing all of her old classmates married and having babies while asking her why she is still single. The perfect idea comes to her that if she has a boyfriend with her, a fake boyfriend that is the whole thing would be so much easier.

Enter Andrew, the pilot she has only talked to thought the control tower helping him land the plane, they know meet for the first time in person and quickly they discover they have a similar problem.

Andrew could really use a fake girlfriend to help him with all the family gatherings and stop everyone asking about his romantic life.

So it would be beneficial for both of them to start a fake relationship and avoid the pressure in social events.

They are opposites but they quickly discovered that they things they have in common are more than they imagined.

The romance is more of a slow burn with a beautiful build up that comes into a even more beautiful relationship. Andrew really gets her, he lets her be herself amd celebrates her for it. Pippa is more frightened to start a new relationship especially they way all of her previous ones have gotten but her feelings are too big to get ignored, especially when Andrew makes it so easy to fall.

This was a truly lovely book with a great representation of the challenges for someone in the autism spectrum.

*I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

Three and a half stars for me.
Interesting read; there were some elements of the book I really enjoyed - the fake dating scenario - which you know is going to not work as inevitably these couples fall in love! But the way Jo Watson made it happen was well written. I think by introducing the autism element makes it unique and I liked that. However I wanted both characters (Pippa and Andrew) to grab me and keep on reading, but they didn't so it took a while longer to get through. Thanks to Net Galley for the advanced copy..
