I had such a lovely time with this one!
Fake-dating and workplace romance are two tropes that you cannot go wrong with... and Pippa and Andrew are another prime example of that. I adored Pippa's ramblings with interesting facts that even I, as a reader, never knew about. Andrew was such a sweetheart that always intently listened to everything Pippa had to say and never once judged or ridiculed her. Even before learning about Pippa being autistic, Andrew was nothing but patient and kind in his approach to her. They are such a well-balanced pair and you could feel the connection and inevitable love shining through the pages.
I absolutely loved the author's letter prior to the beginning of the story showcasing the positive impact that her own autism diagnosis has had on her life. You get a true sense of the author throughout Pippa and the impact that being on the autistic spectrum has on an individual's day-to-day life. It definitely took me a couple of chapters to get into the swing of Pippa's narrative as I have to admit, it felt intense at the beginning. However I very quickly settled into the story and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I’m obsessed!! I loved this book so much. I was curious from the moment I read the description and it did not disappoint.
I really like planes and find the air traffic controller job fascinating so this setting was perfect for me! The fake dating trope, on the other hand, is trickier but I LOVED it here! I had so much fun following Pippa and Andree as their relationship grew and went from them talking through air traffic control pretty frequently, to fake dating and then very quickly turned into more. They were so cute!🥰
After everything she went through growing up, Pippa was sure her relationships were doomed from the start. But then Andrew came along and pretty much showed her that the problem wasn’t her, but rather the people she’d been with. He loved her for who she was, loved all the parts of her she thought weren’t worthy of love and his feelings only grew stronger the more he got to know her. They were such a great match! The way he understood her and gave her space when she needed was so sweet! He never pressured her, even before he realized she was on the spectrum, and always tried to make tough situations a little bit easier if he could 🥰
Also, not really relevant for this review but I loved that their favorite show was also one of my favorite shows - Mayday: Air Crash Investigation. I want someone to watch it with lol🥲
Overall, this is a great book! If you like the fake dating and workplace romance tropes, and especially if you’re into anything airplanes (or just sexy pilots ahaha) this book is perfect for you!
★ 5/5 stars ★
A big thank you to Headline Eternal and Netgalley for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review
Love at First Flight by Jo Watson was a surprisingly tender and touching read. Now, I’ve read Watson’s books before so I knew I was in for a guaranteed good read, but I feel like this one was extra special, and I think this has everything to do with how Watson poured herself into the MC Pippa. I urge any reader to ensure they read Watson’s author’s letter at the start.
In her letter Watson explains the positive impact that her recent autism diagnosis has had on her life, and how this led to her creating a character who is also on the spectrum. I’m going to be completely honest here and say that when I started reading Love at First Flight I found it pretty intense to be so immersed in the first person narrative of someone who is autistic. That’s not to say I didn’t like Pippa, I did, but that it took me a little bit of time to understand her and how she operates. Once I did, I simply adored her. I think it’s really quite incredible what Watson has done in creating Pippa, the representation that she offers is wonderful. I know that like all neurodivergences that autism is on a spectrum, with Pippa representing only some but not all experiences, but still it’s really special. And that Pippa finds someone who loves her for EVERYTHING she is, rather than in spite of it was done so well.
This book really grew on me to the point that I couldn’t bear to put it down. It’s a glorious fake dating romance, with a wonderful FMC and the kindest, most genuine MMC in Andrew and I just couldn’t help but root for them throughout.
Overall, I highly recommend this one.
Pippa was a little annoying to be honest. I just couldn’t stand her. The story itself has so much potential. The first few chapters were interesting but I ended up skimming through the book because it didn’t intrigue me anymore.
Thank you NetGalley and Headline for this ARC.
This was a really funny book with a lot of stuff I loved. I am an aviation geek so this was so up my street and this storyline was one I was desperate to read. I haven’t read a book by this author before but I am excited to see what else she writes!
This was a different feel to other Jo Watson books.
I enjoyed it, a very cute little read. Loved both the main characters and all the extra characters who made an appearance.
I also liked Jo’s introduction at the start of the book sharing her experiences and getting her autism diagnosis.
If this doesn’t speak romcom perfection I don’t know what does!… I was so delighted with the warm fuzzy feeling this book left me with
Great read, especially to see the developing relationship between Pippa and Andrew. + exploring autism in relationships was beautiful.
This book wasn't the best I've ever read but also not the worst, it's just sitting somewhere right in the middle and that's what makes it a bit hard to rate for me. I enjoyed the romance of the book but it was hard for me to concentrate on the text and not skim over it. I also found it easy to put the book aside because it just didn't suck me in like others do.
You had me at Jo Watson! Her books are always a delight and to add fake dating to airline careers made it all the more interesting and fun to devour! I will be posting a full review and I can’t wait to bring this title to readers. Her novel are the perfect escape and but of fun!
So so in the mood for a good feel good rom com and Jo awateon is one of my absolute favorites! Will be sharing my full review very soon I apologize I’m a bit behind due to an unexpected health issue but Jo Watson is the best! Can’t wait!
Really enjoyed this book!
This story is told from Pippa’s point of view who is on the autism spectrum and an air traffic controller who comes up with a fake dating idea with pilot Andrew to help both with their families wishing they both had a significant other. Then eventually the fake dating becomes real and is a beautiful love story between the two of them.
I loved both Pippa and Andrew! Overall a feel good sweet story, just in some parts the pacing felt a bit off.
I haven’t read anything from Jo Watson previously but will be reading more!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to have an ARC in return for an honest review
This is just brilliant. Beautifully written, sensitively dealing with autism and how this affects school, work and relationships and a fabulous cast of characters. There isn’t one thing that i didn’t like about this book. Great hobbies, great unintentional humour, great parents and families and two stupendous dogs. This book cracks on at pace and is a masterclass in showing relationships developing and love blossoming where there is kindness and patience,
I really wanted to love this book but unfortunately it just wasn't for me.
I always get excited about FMCs who are neurospicy but this book just didn't hit. As someone who is on the spectrum, it was quite obvious that this book was written by someone neurotypical and I found it really hard to read for that reason. I ended up skim reading and then just gave up and skipped straight to the end.
I loved Andrew and I could have loved Pippa but I just found myself getting more annoyed as the book went on.
That being said, I have read and enjoyed books by this author previously and I hope that any future offerings are as good as previous books.
I adored this book. Synonyms include loved, treasured, thought the world of.
It has so much heart and humour and a beautiful love story between a pilot and an air traffic controller on the autistic spectrum.
This story is told from Pippa’s perspective. She loves fish, planes and synonyms; and is fed up with her family wishing she had a boyfriend. She then strikes up a fake dating plot with “Flightbird Six Zero Zero” - and soon enough the fake dating becomes very real.
I loved Pippa and I loved Andrew and they were so special together. I loved how Andrew made it clear that he treasured everything about her, especially the things that she had been made to believe made her unloveable.
This was also a fascinating insight into the life of someone on the autistic spectrum. On how they think and feel and react.
I couldn’t recommend this story more! 🤍
Thank you NetGalley and Headline Eternal for the DRC!
