Another great escapist read from Katie Fforde, set mainly on the Caribbean island of Dominica. Cass has always felt like the failure of the family, so when she is given a special commission by her father she jumps at the chance, especially as it means returning to one of her favourite places. However, she and companion Ranulph arrive in the aftermath of a hurricane and spend their time helping the islanders rather than completing their mission.
The descriptions of Dominica are wonderful and the there are some warm and friendly people there who take Cass to their hearts. She finally feels useful and loved, but has also fallen for Ranulph, who is a good 10 years older than her. Will their friendship blossom in to romance, and will they succeed in the mission set by Cass's father?
Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.

I loved stepping into the world of Dominica and learning something about the culture and island, through this beautifully told story, that brings to life the struggles of an island especially after a hurricane. It’s been written in such a way that I really felt I was on the island with the characters., or wanted to be there to discover for myself the hidden treasures of the Caribbean. There were so many twists and turns and as always a slow burning love interest, between Cass and Ran. I loved the journey of discovery that Cass went on to find out her true calling in life. There were so many twists and turns in her story, that I could not put the book down, as kept wanting to know what happened next. I was pleased she got her happily ever after in the end. Another fabulous book and after reading all Katie Ffords work, this is by far one of the best.

Cass has been asked by her photographer father to deliver a map to Dominica. Before she can jet off, a hurricane strikes the island, and she and Ranulph, a journalist friend of her father's who accompanies her, find themselves caught up in helping the island recover. Cass falls hard for Ran, but does he feel the same?
A good mix of characters, with the likeable (Bastian and Delphine) to the extremely unlikeable (Austin). The story contains plenty of drama, but unfortunately I found the love story to be totally unbelievable - it didn't seem to be fleshed out and at times I couldn't understand what Cass saw in Ran at all. I loved the descriptions of Dominica, but on the whole the book was too repetitive for me, and felt like it needed a good edit.

I was so excited to receive an early copy of Island in the Sun by Katie Fforde, one of my favourite authors.
This book definitely disappoint. It was a slight departure in terms of setting because the main part of the story takes part in Dominica after a hurricane, whilst Fforde's other novels have tended to be set in "cosy" locations somewhere in the UK. I really appreciated this change of scene since I learnt more about that area of the world, which was an added bonus. Otherwise, Island in the Sun had all the ingredients I have come to love in her books – a great plot and love story combined with good characterisation (including a villain you'll love to hate).
This was a page-turner that I struggled to put down and I'd highly recommend it. Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve read all of Katie’s books and loved them. But I have to say that this is the one I loved reading the most. Reading it on a cold January day it made me want to be on Dominica (not during a hurricane though). I mostly enjoyed Cass exploring her artistic talent but the love story evolving through the book was good to follow too even if I wanted to shout at them at times! Thank you Katie for another fabulous book

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with this arc in exchange for a review.
I have read a few Katie Fforde books and always enjoyed them, so I was pleased to be allocated Island in the Sun which will be published next month.
The characters were well rounded and I loved the contrast of the remote isles of Scotland and Dominica. I was interested to read the author’s connection with Dominica and her love for the island shines throughout the book.
If you want a book that transports you to sunnier climes (especially during the British winter!) and is a feel good romance, then this is the book for you!

I loved the story of Cass and her adventures to Dominica. I was even more wonderful knowing that some of the characters and their stories were based on family members it made for a better story for some reason. I did enjoy reading how Cass grew in confidence over time as she was faced with some dramatic situations. A wonderful story of adventure, love, friendship and self-discovery. Dominica sounds like a wonderful place to visit.

I didn’t find this book as easy to read as the previous novels from this author, and not really sure why. Maybe it’s appealing to a much younger audience. Beautiful descriptions of the Caribbean

Katie Fforde's Caribbean adventure is captivating, as always. She successfully immerses you in Caribbean Island life and culture. An exciting and adventurous plot, with a sprinkling of romance. We join the main character on her exploits from the Scottish islands to the stunning Caribbean island of Dominica. As always we meet fascinating and likeable characters, with a villainous character that the reader will love to hate.

I’ve loved all of this author’s books for years however this one, although a lovely story, is quite different. Is the author looking to appeal to a younger audience perhaps as this book was the story of a love-struck 25 year old who acted more like a teenager. I got decidedly fed up with all the swooning and self doubt bouncing off the heroine!
The location in Dominica was beautifully described and does make you want to go and visit, the premise of the story was good, just very juvenile characters!
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publishers for an arc in exchange for an honest review

I very much liked the descriptions of the two islands in the book (although there wasn’t a great deal of sun) and the description of the hurricane and its destruction. However I felt that the book was over long to tell a very basic tale. The “romance” element was quite unbelievable and in fact almost nonexistent more of a juvenile crush. The characters weren’t very rounded and Austin was more like a pantomime villain with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, why would anyone put up with him?
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for this ARC

I did enjoy this book, but it's not my favourite book of Katie's. The romance wasn't well-written. I couldn't see what Cass saw in Ran (or he in her). For a long time too, I wondered if this book was set in the past. There's just something about the way it's written, that it didn't seem to be set in modern times, except when Cass mentioned an Uber in the latter part of the book! I don't think Ran was fleshed out enough. I also felt some of the plot was too contrived. I didn't find it believable the way Cass was sent off to Dominica the way she was. The map could have been posted. Cass is very childish. She complains about being treated like a child, but acts like one at times. I also couldn't believe the ending, how quickly what transpires comes about. T he dialogue at times is stilted. I did like learning about another country. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have always loved Katie’s books and this was no exception.
Set in beautiful Dominica,we meet an eclectic list of characters some more likeable than others!
Cass has been asked to visit Dominica on behalf of her photographer father to complete a photographic assignment! Cass is more of an artist than a photographer but accepts the challenge as she has fond memories of the island, she is accompanied by the enigmatic, handsome, knowledgeable Ranulph.
Arriving just after a hurricane and experiencing another one Cass and Ranulph are thrown into island life partaking in the post hurricane clean up and recovery process!
Feelings and emotions run high between the two of them as time progresses , but completing the photographic task is thwart with problems due to an outside interest!
Drama, courage, friendship and community are key to this book with much to captivate and interest the reader particularly the wonderful vibrant scenery.
A wonderful read that will keep you engrossed from start to finish.
Thank you NetGalley for this early read

A good, easy, refreshing read. Thank you to the writer, publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book.

Katie never fails to delight her readers! An enjoyable, atmospheric compelling read with romance in the mix! Cass travels to Dominica in the Caribbean to fulfil her father’s wish and falls in love with the area. She arrives just after a hurricane and gets involved with the local community in trying to deal with the aftermath.

I usually love a Katie Fforde book. I found this one quite slow to start and a bit young. Not Katies usual style i felt. However , i did actually enjoy the book. Just wasn’t a big fave.

I enjoyed the premises of the book and the places described, it made me want to visit Dominica (outside of hurricane season!).
Unfortunately I hadn't realised but this is written very much YA, and on the young side of YA as well, the story telling felt very childish and because of that the main character came across as a kid herself, my main thought during the book was "what a brat", the romance made no sense, the book would have been better if all the relationships were friendship ones, I'm a big fan of romance but with this writing and premise just made no sense and it felt forced.
A low 3 stats from me, this book would have been 4 starts if more maturely written and romance scraped out.

Really enjoyed this book, it was bit slow to start with, but I was really hooked by the end. I would highly recommend and of Katie Fforde's books.

I am a long time reader of Katie Fforde and I have been looking forward to reading this new book of hers. I loved the settings that she chose. Her descriptions of the remote Scottish Island where her father lives make me long to visit the highlands again whilst the contrast with Dominica in the Caribbean is beautifully described.
Cass is asked by her father to visit Dominica to return a map that he has, Cass is unsettled and unsure what she wants to do with her life so she agrees to go. Her subsequent trip and her interactions with Ranulph, a friend of her father, are fun to read. Cass comes across as very young and Ranulph comes across as a lot older but the dynamic between them seems to work quite well.
Altogether this was an enjoyable read, perhaps not the best of hers that I have read but certainly worth reading.

This story is about Cass, she is the baby of the family and has jumped from small job to job, while her brothers and sisters are academic and a famous photographer, where should Cass fit herself??
When Cass visits her dad he offers her a chance to do something different, a take a photo on the beautiful island of Dominica,, there has been a hurricane and there might be large problems on the island.
Cass wants to go but she doesn’t want to be a photographer she has a love of drawing which her family don’t about.
This story feels like a coming of age story for Cassie with a romance added, but this doesn’t feel some much like Katie Fforde style of writing,, it didn’t seem so witty and the style felt more juevenile. So a easy going read but, not a strong a story as other books from the same author.
