A beautiful read with characters and locations that draw you in. Perfect holiday book. Katie Fforde never disappoints.

A lovely read, and likeable characters. The descriptions of Dominica were beautiful. Just a tad predictable at the end - but still a great read.

I was totally swept away by this book finishing it in one sitting. Loved the setting of Dominica & could feel Katie’s passion for the island oozing from the pages. An enjoyable read that left me wanting a holiday in the Caribbean.

I’m not sure what I thought of this book. I’ve read lots of the author’s other books and really enjoyed them, but I didn’t feel like I really connected with any of the characters in this one (except for Delphine, who’s fabulous!). They all felt quite one dimensional, even the ‘baddie’. A light, easy read, but not one I’d recommend to others.

I am a huge fan of Katie Fforde’s novels and, although some are more memorable than others, always read each new one that comes out (I have all the paperback editions going back to her first Living Dangerously). Cass’s father asks her to go to the Caribbean island of Domenica to deliver a map to his old friend’s son, to help him discover the location and prove the existence of a rare stone carving for a paper he is writing, which could result in significant prize money which would then be used to benefit the island. His neighbour, Ranulph, who is a journalist will accompany Cass, and they will take emergency supplies as news emerges just before they are due to leave that the island has been hit by a hurricane.
The story is told entirely from Cass’s point of view, so we have no idea what Ran is thinking. Cass has a tendency to jump to conclusions based on very little evidence, and has little self-confidence to begin with. As the story progresses, she undergoes a journey of self-discovery and works out what she wants to do with her life – she is not exaggerating when she says her family are always belittling her – and realises that she has useful skills and is very capable in a crisis.
The characters are well written, even if some are quite horrible – I’m not sure why they tolerate Austin for so long. The settings are vividly described, with a large part of the story taking place on Domenica. Katie Fforde has family connections there and obviously a great affection for the island. There are a lot of typical Katie Fforde themes running through the narrative, which will be obvious to her long-time readers. While I enjoyed Island in the Sun, I was also slightly disappointed, mainly because I didn’t feel the romance between the main characters was entirely convincing. I’m probably in a minority here, but I have no desire to go to Domenica after reading this, preferring instead the remote Scottish island where Ran has made his home. Despite this being her thirtieth novel, I hope she continues for many years to come and look forward to her next one. Thanks to Penguin and NetGalley for a digital copy to review.

Another great read from Katie Fforde- this is a lovely easy reading romance story. Cass agrees to visit the Caribbean island of Dominica to help find a photograph a relic for her father. However, nothing is straightforward and she soon finds herself facing a hurricane, ruined roads and a challenger who wants to disprove the artifact.
Fab descriptions of the island of Dominica really bring the setting to life- it sounds like an incredible place to visit! Great characters, with an interesting storyline and a slow burning romance. what more could you want in a good read??

Island in the Sun is the latest novel by romance expert Katie Fforde. I've read most of her previous books and really enjoyed them so was happy to have this as a pre-release copy from Netgalley.
It follows the story of Cassiopeia (Cass) - the youngest grown up child of a blended family. It opens as she heads up to Northern Scotland to visit her father, a renowned photographer. She meets Ranulph , a charming but older man, while visiting her father and circumstances lead to both of them travelling to the little island of Dominica in the aftermath of a hurricane.

I really enjoyed the first 2/3s of the story as Cass finds herself and her confidence on the island and develops a growing friendship with Ranulph . However, the last 3rd felt really rushed and quite bitty as if it wasn't quite sure which part of the novel it belonged to. Cass seems to lose some of her newfound confidence and dithers about her relationships, making bad decisions which had me shouting at my Kindle!

Overall 3.5/5 - I'd recommend more of Katie Fforde's books but perhaps her earlier ones rather than this one.
Thanks to the publishers and netgalley for an advanced release copy in exchange for an honest review.

I struggled a little to get into this book. I felt that it was a little bit slow and the language Didnt flow like it usually does. But overall it was sokay.

Yet again Katie Fforde has written an excellent fiction book. As is with all her books the characters and the settings of the book are exceptional. Definitely another must read!

A great mixture of a will they won't they, do they don't they love story.
Deliciously mixed in with old and new art, exotic island life and culture, amiable and not so amiable characters.
What's not to love? see for yourself.

I usually love Katie Fforde books, but this one just wasn’t for me. It is set in modern times but the language just didn’t sound like it should. It’s an easy read and I know a lot of people loved it, I just think Katie missed the mark with this one. I’m looking forward to her next book. Thank you #netgalley

As an unashamed lover of all Katie Ffordes books over many years, I had to request this book. Cass has been tasked by her father to travel abroad to photograph an ancient relic, whereas Randolph's job is to make sure she stays safe. Unfortunately the idyllic island they visit suffers an earthquake which forces the pair to re-prioritise their tasks. As usual with her books there is a series of misunderstandings and confusion which takes the story in different directions but rest assured all is well. A lovely light read with interesting and quite likeable characters. Well worth the time. Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC of Island in the Sun.

Yet another great read from Katie Fforde, an author that I was recommended to a few years ago. her books are always a great read, as was this her latest.
Once again, great characters in a stunning setting, but as usual a little twist in the plot along the way.

This book started a little slow, I felt like the first chapter,r or so, was rushed, but then, oh my gosh, did it get better. This book explains why we should never make assumptions or trust those whom we feel we shouldn't. I was inexplicably sad when this book came to an end, knowing I wouldn't be reading about Cass or Ran anymore.

This was everything I'd expect from a Katie Fforde book. Believable, loveable characters. Beautifully descriptive language. And a love story.

The Love story doesn't take centre stage in this book, which for me is a good thing. I much prefer it to be a background element.

I've was worried that there would be a twist half way through and the good guys would turn out to be bad guys. That kept me reading, but it was nice to just have a nice story with a happy ending. It was, what my Mum calls, a nice gentle story.

I've somehow fallen in love with Dominica, despite never having been there!

I'm a bit of a quandary over how to score this book. The synopsis make it sound like it was a book about love, but as a love story its 1/5 as there is very little love as such in it. As a guide book showing off Dominica its a 5/5 as there is more about it than romance so I'll settle for 3/5, mid way as a compromise! Nice enough characters, great settings both in Scotland and Dominica but just felt it was lacking the romance bit to really get you hooked.

Katie Fforde is one of those authors that as soon as I see she has a new book out I know I want to read it. I liked the premise, the settings of a Scottish island and the Caribbean island of Dominica, Cassie, a rather naive woman in her mid 20s, takes a trip to Dominica, just after it’s been hit by a hurricane. The author obviously knows the island well, which shows in the descriptions of both the area and the people. It sounds a wonderful place to visit, out of the Hurricane season. The characters are mainly likeable and friendly, apart from the obvious villain of the piece but I couldn’t take to Cassie, who seemed too naive and babied. She did become more likeable as the story went on, and I really liked Eleanor, Ranulf and Bastian. A satisfying, easy read. 3 1/2 ⭐️

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Well Fforde this was a decent effort. Cass is a lovely lead character but the story didn’t grab me enough to give it 5 stars.

Will definitely read more by Fforde. I just didn’t love this one as much as I wanted.
