Players! Grab your ukulele and tune up for the holidays. . .this was a helpful start for me and my 8-string - as the uke is not my usual instrument, so I need lots of practice.

All of the basics are included in this short, focused book: simple basic tunes, tabs, chord fingerings, strumming patterns, and the occasional photo of fingers on frets and hands a-strumming for confidence building. Songs included are just as the title says, related to Christmas - from Jingle Bells to We Wish You a Merry Christmas!

Not only has this book been useful to this player of a certain age, but also to my grandson who is much cooler than me and who has been picking up this instrument when he visits - adding it to our shared interest in all things strummable. He's improving quickly and will soon sail past my abilities. But for the present we are getting ready for end of year company, and 21 Easy Ukulele Songs for Christmas has been a super tool for harmonious collaborations toward that goal.

It is fun to see that the authors, Rebecca Bogart and Jenny Peters, have a number of other similar songbooks for various skill levels, and other types of music to work on when the season moves us into the New Year.

*A sincere thank you to Rebecca Bogart, Jenny Peters, Forte Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC to read and review independently.*

This is a really lovely collection of Christmas music for ukulele, with quite a bit of information and support for beginners. It's not the first learn-to-play ukulele book I'd buy for a library collection, but it would be a nice addition to a large collection where sheet music and holiday songs are popular.

Great song collection!
It’s easy to read and understand for a beginner like me.
Each song has both chords and tabs that you can use. At the end there was also a link for a video course.

There was nothing different here from any other Christmas Ukulele book I’ve seen. Okay for Children and complete beginners.

Nice book for beginners. Ranges from easier to more complex as you go further into the book. Neat diagrams to help with finger placement. Great for the holidays!!

I used to play the guitar long ago until scabs formed on my left hand fingers! The ukulele looks like a similar musical instrument that is worth learning without destroying your digits. I love this little book for beginners to learn how to play Christmas songs, all of them familiar to me except for a couple. Best of all, buyers of the book can get free access to a video course! I’ve always felt that certain instructional books need a video accompaniment for better learning. The other thing I really appreciate are the instructions on how to pluck.

Great little book to help liven up the holiday season with cheerful sounds of the ukulele.

5 stars from me.

21 Easy Ukulele Songs for Christmas is a delightful and well curated selection of 21 songs arranged for the ukulele and collected by Rebecca Bogart and Jenny Peters. Released 9th Nov 2023, it's 155 pages and is available in paperback format.

The ukulele is an accessible instrument and can be an inexpensive choice for starting to learn to play. The authors are experienced teachers and have done a good job putting together this book (and series) to help readers get started quickly and successfully and with a minimum of frustration.

They've chosen 21 holiday songs and have included fret notations and photo tutorials with finger positions, arrangements also include sheet music and links to online video tutorials. The songs are classic Christmas titles like Away in a Manger, Jingle Bells, and Over the River and Through the Wood. Some of them also have embellishments like finger picking accompaniment to the chord tabs.

This book is part of a series of instructional booklets, so readers who are familiar with the other books will find the format here already familiar.

Five stars. Well worth a look. It would make a good choice for public or school library acquisition, gift giving, and personal study.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

21 Easy Ukulele Songs for Christmas is exactly that - a beginner's guide to playing 21 seasonal songs on Ukulele.

The book opens with a few plugs for the author's free video courses, and then we get down to the details. There are basic strum patterns, guides to reading both tabs and the more traditional music staves, scales and picking techniques.

Each song is introduced with a brief history of the piece. Some I knew, some I didn't. They are are arranged in order of complexity, from the simple 2-chord melodies to more detailed 7-chored tunes. Most songs are just the melody line, but there are a handful with notation for accompaniment as well.

The chord diagrams are clearly laid out, with both photographs and a chart of the fretboard (from 2 different angles) showing finger placement.

Overall a nice book for beginner uke players to learn holiday tunes.

A fantastic resource for ukulele enthusiasts of all levels. The book's clear and beginner-friendly approach makes it a standout choice for anyone looking to spread some holiday cheer through music. With larger fonts and music notation, it's especially accommodating for seniors and kids.

What I like about the book is it’s not just the collection of classic Christmas songs, but the step-by-step guidance provided by the authors. They teach you how to play each song, from the easiest to more challenging ones, ensuring a gradual learning curve. The inclusion of diagrams, photos, and online videos for finger placement and strumming techniques eliminates frustration and makes learning a breeze. Whether you're a total beginner or a seasoned player, 21 Easy Ukulele Songs for Christmas is a must-have for your holiday repertoire.

Some time in the distant past (before 2015) we bought ukuleles. We did two terms of classes. I had never played a stringed instrument and I cannot say that it took. Even during lockdowns, when I kept thinking I should take it up again I found other things to do. Then I saw this book, and was delighted to get my hands on it. I'm not one for Christmas, so it was a weird decision, but there you go. I downloaded the book, got out my pretty pink uke and off I went! This book is easy to follow, has clear notation for people who read music and people who do not and linked video tutorials. A winner of a book, and delightful to be strumming away again.

Thanks to NetGalley and Forte Publishing for the free ebook in exchange for an honest review, and the authors for writitng a book that is both simple and inspiring.

I want to thank Netgalley and the authors for gifting me the ebook. I was excited about this novel because I was gifted a ukelele earlier this year and I have been practicing for Christmas. This book is very detailed and informative but I have never been taught to read music and so this was very confusing for me. This is for people who know how to read music etc. If you do then you might want to check this book out!

I loved this so much. I'm an older adult who decides every now and then to pick up a random hobby. Last year I bought a ukulele, and I'm not great at learning. This is one of the best books I've seen for teaching simple songs.
There is an introduction and then there are several Christmas songs. All of the songs have a small bit of history and the playing is kept simple. Not only that, anyone who buys this can watch the videos for free by the people who wrote the book. My favorite Christmas song is in the book, but every selection looks great. There are also several other simple books for ukulele by the same people.
Thanks so much to NetGalley for letting me read this.

This appears to be the "large print" edition of a songbook I've already got, and having used it before I can say that it's quite good. It's got a great introduction to the ukulele for beginners which sets the stage for very easy songs to play. The other nice thing about this book is that it has the notation for individual notes for players who want to pluck the strings, and it also has chord placements for those who wish to strum. Lots of good song choices, too. Highly recommended if you want to learn some easy carols for the holiday season.
