I really enjoyed this book. It was funny and very cleverly put together. I loved the characters and the quirky humour in the book. I'd love to read more by this author. Great read for a book club. Devoured it within a couple of days.

I had no idea what to expect from this book and what I got was a really enjoyable read,

Well paced and very amusing at times and you really wanted the main characters to emerge unscathed.

I just didn't want this to end. The narrator's voice is very, very engaging: a little cynical, very witty and all round jolly good fun. It tapped right into my sense of humour.

Al (the narrator) is, as he likes to call himself, an 'interloper'. Others would probably describe it as 'breaking and entering'. He is very particular about the difference. He merely stays in empty houses whilst their owner(s) is/are away on some exotic far-away holiday or in one of their other houses. He doesn't steal anything. He merely temporarily resides in an empty house. He's managed to do this for a good decade, following a meticulous set of rules and always on his own: until events lead him to co-'interloping' with three others, which is when it all goes wrong. Very, very wrong.

This is wonderfully easy to read and even easier to immerse yourself into the characters, all of whom are really rather captivating and fascinating. It's very well written and keeps you entertained right to the end.

Al never explains what led him to an 'interloping' career, he never explains what the nefarious deeds of his past were, but quite often alludes to, and never tells the reader his real name. I was just slightly miffed that these questions remained unanswered, but it doesn't alter my five-star rating and very certainly won't prevent me seeking out this author's other books.

I enjoyed the author's previous book, a futuristic novel that, to me, felt a bit Victorian. This book is completely different and I was hooked from the first page. It's a nicely written story with an engaging main character and there's a lot of humour thrown in too.

This is a great easy read and Andrew Hunter Murray is one to watch.

Al breaks into some of the most luxurious properties around London but he doesn't take anything. He's somewhat of an unofficial house sitter..
Al ends up meeting others that are doing the same as him and reluctantly goes with them to the next house where it all goes wrong and Al finds himself in big trouble.

This book wasn't at all what I was expecting. Al and his friends end up in some bonkers situations where you definitely need to suspend belief! It is far fetched but it totally works and I found it so enjoyable and very witty!

I absolutely loved Al. I needed to see what happened and was dying for more of his backstory which the author did deliver on. I thought there was a great host of characters that were excellently written. The plot was well paced, it kind of went off keel in the last third of the book. Which is where I started to lose interest but I was completely invested by this stage and the need to know how it ends and what was to become of poor Al kept me turning the pages.

I would definitely recommend this quirky read! Would love to see it adapted to a movie or series.

Huge thanks to @netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review.

Thank you for allowing me to read an advance review copy of this book. I found it fairly slow going although witty and clever in places, but I could have easily put it down and not finished it.

I normally read and review children's books but the title of this one really caught my eye and I had to know more.
What unfolded was a twisty-turning look at the role of an 'interloper'. It was funny, serious, intriguing and a thoroughly enjoyable read as I tried to work out who was at the heart of the mystery.
I will definitely be looking out for more books by this author.

I reviewed this based on comments seen about the humour within being non-stop, etc.

I didn’t find it fantastically funny, but I did find it to be a really well-written adventure story with added humour and for that, I was pleasantly surprised. There is a good storyline, a misdirect from the beginning that held fast all the way through the story until the end wrap-up, a degree of farce, but with subtlety that just made the engagement really enjoyable.

Well worth the read.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book and it was different. It was quirky and lighthearted, although we did have a couple of murders along the way. It was an amusing and enjoyable read and I did like the main character Al. Maybe the ending was a bit trite but the journey made it all worthwhile

Lively, witty and fresh, really enjoyed this as a different read. Liked the prologue and the characters and felt it could easily be a film.

"Al" is an interloper. A what? He's an interloper - which is essentially his preferred term for the squatting lifestyle he has adopted. Over the past decade "Al" has turned this into something of a skilled artform. He identifies high-end properties that are going to be empty for a period and then in hermit crab fashion goes about the business of making it his own temporary home. All appears to be going well until he comes across a house that he expects to be unoccupied - but isn't. So begins an unexpected adventure that will take "Al's" life down a track that he never intended nor expected.

I really enjoy Andrew Hunter Murray's style of writing. The tone of this novel is very different to that of his previous book, "The Sanctuary". This is lighter - perhaps even slightly "cosy" - but right from the slightly quirky and fun prologue to the very last page, this makes for engaging reading. There are numerous examples of clever, witty humour and observations that the author has a wonderful way of slipping almost nonchalantly into the narrative. There are a number of occasions when the feel of this novel reminded my of the UK TV series "Hustle" from the noughties, so if you are of an age where you can fondly remember that programme, then the content of this book may well appeal to you too. I will certainly be keeping any eye out for Andrew Hunter Murray's next offering.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for supplying an ARC in return for an honest review.

I absolutely loved the first few chapters of this title. I wasn't expecting the cosy crime vibes that followed, but I enjoyed them. It's a very fresh plot, with plenty of wit and humour weaved through. Great storytelling and I would definitely recommend this book to any fans of Hannah Hendy and the other cosy crime greats.

I struggled with this book - I found it slow to start with although I did become more invested as the interlopers found out more about the activities of their murder victim.

We start the book with Al in prison - the book explains how he became embroiled with three other interlopers and their investigations to clear their names. His rules are broken with inevitable disastrous results. His cover is blown and he has to face himself and his life choices for the first time.

I liked the premise of Interloping but did not find the background to the initial murder wholly convincing.

I totally loved this book! So funny at times that I literally did laugh out loud. It was extremely well written, and the amount of research that must have gone into it is incredible. One of my favourite reads of the year so far. Brilliant, and highly recommended. Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the early copy.

Al lives the life many of us could only dream about: House sitting in the homes of the wealthy and privileged, while they are away and non the wiser. He outlines his principals as a set of rules which include not stealing anything or destroying items, no he treats the homes as if they were his. Another principal he has is that he always works alone. That is until during one day he makes a series of mistakes which takes him back to one of his old homes. Once there he realises that there are other people who do what he does; Freeload. Against his better judgement and rules he joins them and embarks on an adventure that will see some very funny dramas, mishaps and even murder as the gang attempt to clear their names whilst taking on corrupt police.

The book opens with Al as he spends time in prison and quickly takes us to the events which have led him there.. The writing is refreshingly witty and Murray's style and character development are second to none. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this in advance.

Al is living the dream in a number of big, fancy houses. The only problem is, none of them are his. He is an undetectable squatter, and is getting away with it thanks to his list of rules. Until suddenly things start to go wrong, and then from bad to worse ... And before he knows it, there is a dead body.

This is such a clever and well written book, with brilliant characters and an excellent sense of humour. The murder mystery did start to drag a bit around the middle, but I loved the final twist! I do hope we see Al again some day ...

A very entertaining thriller whose argument revolves around a number of hot issues (property market, laundering money, foreign dodgy governments...) in a humorous, quirky style. The main characters are young, intelligent and bonkers., the setting is believably conveyed, dialogue fun. A good read! I would be reading a sequel and I hope I do.
