Meddy and Nathan are back from honeymoon and are meeting the Aunties in Jakarta , and of course mayhem ensues .
It’s Chinese New Year and the celebrations are in full swing when an admirer of second aunt arrives with extravagant gifts , unfortunately all of the gifts are not for the Aunties.
It’s too late to rectify the problem and Meddy and her Aunties are thrown into the middle of a feud between two “mob” families.
This book is laugh out loud at times and is an excellent light hearted read .
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ .
As part of her honeymoon Meddy has turned up in Jakarta to celebrate Chinese New Year with her extended family. When they arrive Second Aunt is greeted by a long lost former boyfriend, the heavily tattooed 'businessman' Abi who proceeds to show great generosity by handing out lucky envelopes. Unfortunately, one of those envelopes contains a gift meant for a formidable business rival Julia and now it is in the hands of Abi's business enemy Kristofer. Now Meddy, her husband Nathan and the Aunties are at the centre of a business dispute which has absolutely nothing to do with the most powerful gangsters in Indonesia!
This is the final part of a trilogy and I hadn't read the first two, however I read another book by Sustanto so I had a good idea of what to expect. I think a reader coming to this book fresh would really struggle, it's a manically-paced, laugh out loud culture shock. That's not to say the story isn't very clever, well-written and hugely entertaining but it is very full on.
A really fun book. I've read the other two and was worried this third book would be a let-down, but this absolutely did not disappoint.
This book got me out a reading slump!
I read this whole thing in a single day because it is so funny, I loved being back with the aunties and their shenanigans.
What I really loved was the return to these characters, I am sad this is the end of the series because it means no more aunties and no more absurd situations.
This series was so perfect for me, fast paced, funny, and overall a great time. I loved Dial A for Aunties and that one is still my favourite, at times I found The Good, the Bad and the Aunties to just be a little too unbelievable. The introduction of the mafia and several plot points were just a little too out there for me. The book also felt like it stalled in the middle as the Aunties and Meddy had achieved what they set out to do originally only for something kinda obvious to embroil them in more danger and drama.
Overall 3 stars for this one but I would re-read the whole series again and pick up more by Jesse Sutanto because her writing is addictive.
***ARC Read***
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
Only Meddy and her aunts can live through this much chaos - Meddy (and now Nathan) must have constant high blood pressure LOL. 3 books and no rest in any of them.
I can't believe this is the last book in the series!!! I've loved every single one, I've had real belly laughs and it's not often that books can do that! The characters maintained their personalities throughout the three books and I think that's the main beauty of it - its as though we're looking forward to seeing the family again in each book, we know what to expect so its like a reunion almost.
This book was such a chaotic yet light, fun and good-vibes read. I ate it all up and sad to see it end.
I highly recommend this series.
What a fun conclusion to the series. Personally, didn’t think it was necessary, but I enjoyed my time reading it.
this just didn’t feel like the end of a series ??? despite the actual stakes being high it didn’t feel HIGH STAKE if that makes sense, and the ending was a tad cliche for my liking … it was v fast paced and entertaining tho which has helped my crippling reading slump so props for that
The Good, the Bad, and the Aunties is the third and final book in Jesse Sutano's highly popular and successful Aunties series. This time newly married Meddy and Nathan travel to Jakarta to celebrate Chinese New Year with the extended family and of course chaos ensues. A mix up in the distribution of the traditional red envelopes given as gifts during the celebrations turns dangerous when the deed to a valuable piece of land is given to the wrong person by accident and Meddy and Nathan find themselves caught up in a gangland feud that has been ongoing for decades and now involves multiple generations.
Reader who enjoyed the humour and well drawn characters of the first two books will find much to enjoy here, though I admit for me it did feel like the weakest of the trilogy and I think the decision to wind up the series before the joke is stretched too thin is a wise one. If you are looking for a fun light hearted piece of escapism this should fit the bill.
I read and reviewed an ARC courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher, all opinions are my own.
Third in the series, I really thought it would not be as enjoyable as the others, but Sutano is quickly becoming an auto read author for me. Meddy and her family, including Nathan, are still as loveable and mischievous as ever, with the consistent and excellent characterisations across all the books. With the increasingly high stakes and hijinks, I was chuckling along at the misunderstandings of colloquial sayings whilst still enjoying the heartwarming bonds in this family's dynamics. The writing really does make the reader feel part of the family, an unmissable ending to the series.
Meddy and her aunties are back and this was a very entertaining treat that made me laugh and kept me reading.
The mystery is as solid as usual, the boisterous and big family of Maddy is great at creating very funny moments.
Can't wait to read other stories featuring them.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks t
Meddy and her loud and feisty mother and aunties are back for a new adventure full of trouble, misunderstandings, and lots of fun that never fails to keep me engrossed in the story.
The Good, the Bad, and the Aunties picks up a month after Nathan and Meddy’s chaotic wedding. At the end of their month-long honeymoon, Meddy and Nathan arrive in Jakarta to celebrate the Chinese New Year with her very large family. Nathan fits right in with all her aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces and celebrations are in full swing when Second Aunt’s childhood boyfriend, Abraham Lincoln (yes, that’s his name!), turns up full of gifts and determined to win Second Aunt over. However, one of the gifts given away was actually for a business partner, Julia Child (the craziness of those names had me chuckling every time I read them) and he needs it back right away. Except, it’s not easy to get the packet back and Meddy and her family get involved in a years-long war between business rivals with ridiculous names who insist they are no gangsters, but law-abiding citizens (even though they go around with fully-armed guards).
I love this series. It makes me laugh, it keeps on edge with all its twists and turns, and it makes me wish for more adventures for Meddy and her family. Meddy thought that after all the trouble at her wedding she could finally enjoy time with her family and she would have loved to avoid getting involved in yet another complicated and dangerous situation, that now involves gangsters, kidnapping, and disguises. The ending was adorable and perfect and, hopefully, not the end of this highly entertaining series. I can’t wait for more adventures and laughs!
The Good, The Bad and The Aunties is the final instalment in the Aunties trilogy from Jess Sutanto and what a pleasure it was to be back in the company of Meddy and the Aunties.
If you’ve read the previous two Aunties books you’ll know what to expect going into this one. The Aunties are their usual meddling, caring and hilarious selves. At the heart of this story, as with the others, is family and this family will stop at nothing to protect one another. As ever Meddy and the Aunties, now with Nathan on board get themselves into some truly wild situations that they then need to get out of!
Fresh from their honeymoon, Meddy and Nathan meet the Aunties in Jakarta for Chinese New Year. Amid the festivities, an old flame of Second Aunt’s arrives with extravagant gifts. Unfortunately, not all the presents were meant for them.
The most important gift goes missing, putting Meddy and the Aunties in the middle of a feud between Jakarta’s most powerful business moguls. To save her loved ones, Meddy must organise a search party, a break-in and a kidnapping. It might sound like an impossible mission– but with the Aunties by her side, nothing is impossible… just complicated.
This was a really fun and easy read. Its much the same as the prior novels in that Meddy and her Aunties find themselves in increasingly outlandish situations where they are required to use increasingly bizarre (and definitely not legal) methods to get themselves out of them. This is the kind of story where if you allow yourself to just go with it you’ll have so much fun. There’s a great deal of humour along the way and it was especially nice to see the Aunties in Jakarta.
Overall a great read and a fitting end to the Aunties trilogy.
2.75*
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.
I love Meddy and the Aunties and their previous antics but this one just missed the mark for me. The Aunties personalities were absolutelty still there and they still make me laugh as they always have done. The story just wasn't quite as good as the previous books.
I would like to thank Netgalley and HQ for an advance copy of The Good, The Bad, and The Aunties, the third novel to feature Meddy Chan and her extended family.
Meddy and Nathan are finishing their European honeymoon by flying to Jakarta for the Chinese New Year. An old flame of Second Aunt arrives bearing gifts and manages to give away one more than intended and that lands the family in a feud between the biggest “law abiding” business people in the country.
I enjoyed The Good, The Bad, and The Aunties which is a fun read, if not a caper with Meddy, Nathan and the Aunties involved in all sorts of shenanigans before escaping unharmed.
This is not a novel to be taken seriously as it is written for laughs and there are plenty of them. Meddy is the sensible one when compared to her crazy elders (three aunts and a mother) and there are times when she feels that wrangling an out of control herd. They are funny and outrageous and there are times when I want to be them, unafraid to say exactly what they think. It’s fun, especially when it’s all done for love and strong family bonds. Then there’s the situations they get into with a couple of kidnappings, theft, assault and a few druggings. The intentions are good, the legality of them not so much.
The novel moves at a fast pace as Meddy and co lurch from one crisis to another. These crises are inventive and the escape from them even more so. I felt tension every time something else happened and laughed in relief as they finagle their way out of another tight situation. Overall the tone is upbeat and full of love. The author says that this is the last outing for Meddy and her aunties, but perhaps she will change her mind. I hope so.
The Good, The Bad, and The Aunties is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
Meddy should be relaxing in Europe somewhere on her extended honeymoon. After the drama leading up to and during her wedding, she and Nathan deserve some pampering. Sadly her charming, affable and too-nice-by-far husband agreed to go spend Chinese New Year with Meddy's extended family in Jakarta.
On arrival they are caught up in whirl of aunties, uncles, cousins and other assorted family. But just when things seems to be settling down and Nathan is the star attraction, Meddy and the aunts get drawn into a new drama. One involving an Auntie, an old flame, the local head Gangster and little red packets!
Meddy has her hands full with those aunties let me tell you. They are all conflicting personalities but as usual if an outsider picks on one, they all band together to cause major mayhem. Nathan is such a placid, pleasant chap and soothes many a fraught situation but even he gets caught up in some fisticuffs!
The crime lords are hilariously named Kristofer Kolumbes, Julia Child, and Abraham Lincoln. They are suitably weird and wonderful. The family bickering and flaunting of dirty laundry is on point.
Gang rivalries, miscommunication and jealousy lead to some very dangerous situations and Meddy and the Aunts turn themselves into a mix of vigilante, rescue aficionados and investigators.
A great conclusion to a trilogy of hilarious hijinks. The characters are fun and effervescent and will put a smile on your face, all whilst tramping on your last nerve with their outrageous behaviour!
Oh my goodness, another fantastic story from Jesse, I love reading about the aunties and the scrapes they get into and how lovely to join Meddy and Nathan on their honeymoon! A lovely end to this series, thank you
The Good, the Bad, and the Aunties by Jesse Sutanto will certainly appeals to fan of this series as it has the same comedic tone of the other installments.
Fresh from their honeymoon, Meddy and Nathan meet the aunties in Jakarta for a Chinese New Year celebration. During the festivities, an old boyfriend of second aunts appears with gifts, but unfortunately, one gift was intended for someone else. When the gift goes missing, it puts Meddy and her family in the middle of a feud between the biggest business moguls in Jakarta and puts them in great danger. To save their lives, Meddy must steal, kidnap, and do some breaking and entering. But with the aunties on her side, nothing is ever impossible.
I loved being back with Meddy and the aunties again and I loved that this was such a wild ride again. This was funny and super fast paced there was always some situation they had to get out of. I'm sad this is the final book of the series as I love Ma and the aunties. If you liked the first two in the series you'll love this one just as much.
In this new title from Jessie Q Sutanto, we have another mysterious yet hilarious adventure that will appeal to a huge audience.
Having loved Dial A for Aunties, I was thrilled to have the chance to read the final story of Meddy and her Aunties.
You might think that Meddy and her family have lived through enough hi jinx for one lifetime, but in The Good, The Bad, and The Aunties, we learn that chaos follows the family everywhere! In this instalment Meddy and Nathan have travelled to Indonesia for Chinese New Year following their Honeymoon. Here the family fall into trouble with the local mafia which leads to kidnappings, hilarity and happy endings.
If you loved the first two books in this series, you’ll definitely enjoy the conclusion of the trilogy! For me, this was one book too far, but I enjoyed it nonetheless and look forward to what the author writes next.
