Aww don't we just love these bonkers bunch of ladies that continue to entertain and thrill. Usual chaos, lots of fun, sorry to see this come to an end. Hysterical, enjoyable and that amazing quirk this author brings to these characters.
Meddy Chan, her mum and her Aunties are back for the last installment of their madcap adventures. This book follows straight on from Four Aunties and a Wedding as we meet the Chans in Jakarta for Chinese New Year, the second part of Nathan and Meddy's honeymoon.
This was a fun and lighthearted read which I devoured in less than 24 hours. It really felt like a short story, I enjoyed it that much! If you're a fan of the Finlay Donovan series or even Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers, you'll know the drill here and will enjoy this one too. I would recommend reading the Aunties books in order as some background information from the other books is referred to in this one.
Setting this series apart is the love and frustration all rolled in one for the various family members, this just shines through and was a real highlight for me.
One minor point. Not sure if this is a hole in the story or if I just missed the setting but in Chapter 10, we went from Nathan and Meddy being woken up in the family home to everyone discussing the kidnapping (including Abi and Julia Child, who appeared from nowhere?) - this baffled me, I even reread the chapter to see when they arrived, but couldn't find it!
Otherwise, a very enjoyable and fun book!
I've enjoyed Jesse Sutano's booms previously so I was excited for this. I enjoyed seeing the family relationships throughout
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I loved Vera wong’s unsolicited advise for murderers and although I have to confess I have not read any of the aunties saga yet I was really pleased to be approved for this last one!
It did not disappoint! It was a funny lighthearted story full of hilariously ridiculous situations and several separate romance plots that interconnected in the end! Overall it was a delight to read. It kept me engaged and with a smile on my face throughout!
I would definitely recommend and will be picking up all of the author’s other books!
When I received an email offering me the third and final instalment of the Four Aunties saga, I could hardly say no, could I? And so, in need of an easy and diverting read the other night, I dived straight in.
This time Meddy, Nathan and the aunties find themselves in Jakarta, where plenty of things go wrong. And, being in Indonesia, where things are done just a tad bit differently from home, the stakes are raised when it comes to getting out of their conundrums.
Just like its two predecessors, this story is outrageous and completely unbelievable, and therefore a lot of fun — as long as you don’t mind completely suspending any expectations of verisimilitude. But… the concept has worn a bit thin. Whereas I was happy to overlook the completely unrealistic shenanigans that Meddy and her aunties got up to in the first two books, this one was starting to feel a bit tired. So I’m glad that this is the last one in the series and we get to finish on a high.
I have really enjoyed following Meddy and her aunties in their unbelievable adventures over this series. This was a quick and fun read that was a lovely lighthearted end to the series. This book follows Meddy and her aunties as they get entangled in some Indonesian mafia business drama.
Definitely recommend if you have enjoyed the family’s escapades so far!
You guys. I had everything crossed in the hopes of being approved for this, so thank you to NetGalley and HQ for this e-ARC in exchange for a review.
This is bittersweet: the Aunties, Meddy and Nathan are back for round three (yay!), which apparently is also the final book in the series (boooo!!!).
Poor Meddy can’t catch a break— first THE incident, then Staphanie and co, and now, Abi, Julia Child, Kristofer Kolumbes, phew. Our Aunties are larger than life, so it’s fitting that something larger than life must happen to them in every book— and I am allllll for it :D
In true Jesse Q Sutanto style, each page makes you want to continue reading on… which is probably why I devoured this book in less than 48 hours (I unfortunately had to do silly things like going to work and sleeping, otherwise it would have been 6 hours).
There’s drama, action, romance. There are childhood sweethearts, a family reunion and possible mafias. There’s confusion, jealousy, and love— so, so much love. The kind of love that makes you go to the depths of hell for your loved ones. And that’s something that I love SO much about this book and this series.
If you’re thinking of requesting this book, pleaseeee read the Dial A for Aunties and Four Aunties and a Wedding first; it’s worth it, Big Aunt, Second Aunt, Ma, Fourth Aunt are worth it, Meddy and Nathan are worth it, I promise.
I just hope there are more books in this series… I’m just not ready to say goodbye, okay?!
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is the third and final book in the Aunties series and it has been a hilarious, delightful rollercoaster. Yet again Meddy, her Ma and her aunties (plus this time her new husband Nathan) manage to stumble unwittingly into trouble. This time they get caught between warring triad heads in Jakarta. How will Meddy and Co extricate themselves from this one?
This has been such fun to read and though the impossible aunties always manage to drag Meddy into trouble they all love each other so ferociously much that it's actually a really touching series.
While this book is my least favourite and most unmemorable in the entire series, it was still very nice to see the crazy aunties! These aunties never fail to make me laugh. So I did enjoy the book especially because I was in the mood for something light and charming. Why is it my least fave? Just the plot seems a bit off. The aunties got themselves in like a gangster battle in Indonesia. The plot is always ridiculously unrealistic in the series, and I don’t mind that, but it’s just the problem that got them entangled in the situation was not even their problem, so the whole seems even more unnecssary and unnatural than the previous book. It’s a situation they could easily avoid. Having said that, it is an entertaining read. And I think this book is the final in the series, so it was good to see a wrap-up!
With this book, Jesse Q. Sutanto delivers another light-hearted romp filled with the misadventures of a very special Indonesian family that includes a *particularly* eccentric set of aunties. As someone with extensive experience of South Asian Aunties - a closely-linked genus - I found this both relatable and enjoyable!
Newly-marrieds Meddy and Nathan meet up with her extended family in Jakarta after the first part of their honeymoon. While Meddy is nervous about exposing Nathan to her many layers of relatives, even she can't predict just how far off the rails things are about to go...
With a rambunctious cast of aunties, cousins, and (maybe) mafia kingpins - both male and female - making their appearances in these pages, romance and criminal activities both blossom richly, leading to some serious chaos before everything falls into place. With a ton of humour to ease their passage through their trials, this is an easy and enjoyable read. It gets 3.5 stars.
