Is this series getting more diverse, or am I just reading the diverse stories? Either way, I'm here for it, and enjoying learning more about people around the globe. I'm not partial to comedians, so I wasn't aware of Lenny's story, but it seems he has done a lot to further Black British activism, something I can definitely get behind.
This was an okay new book in the Little People Big Dreams series. I had never heard of Lenny Henry before and he seems like a fun and influential person, but the story wasn't very compelling and the art was average.
Lenny learned to disarm school bullies by using humour and then became good enough to win a TV contest. He went on to become famous all over Great Britain and instituted a number of charity telethons. He learned how to help others overcome color lines, as well.
The illustrations by Diane Ewen are fun, simple, colorful, and delightful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

Another great book in this series. As a fan of Lenny Henry and with family from Dudley, it was great to see this addition to the series
We love this series of books. Really inspiring story about how Lenny overcame bullies and the power of laughter and having the belief in yourself to succeed.
I always say it, but i love the 'Little People, Big Dreams' series.
This book is a great addition, and it's so nice to see a more 'modern' person within these books.
The story is very simplified, and would have liked a little bit more info into Lenny Henry's early life - and his 'hint-er-gration' (as is mum says within Henry's autobiography) as I feel that it's so much a part of his journey.
I also am a little concerned that the illustrations of Henry's brothers and sisters are all very similar - I think this is a little sloppy of the illustrator.
But overall it's a lovely book, and will give children a great introduction to the legend that is Sir Lenny Henry!
Another fine review of the life and times of Lenny Henry. I did not know who he is, but I like this series of books so I read it. He is a British comedian and sounds like a wonderfully funny and kind chap. Maybe I'll look into his works. So, thanks for the introduction. I enjoy this series of quick reads.
I like the Little People Big Dreams series so much. I encourage not just children, but adults too, to get acquainted with these simple biographies. I had not heard of Lenny Henry before, but I knew about two of important projects of his … Comic Relief and Red Nose Day. How great to learn of his many contributions to the entertainment industry.
