A great addition to the Emily Wilde Universe, ‘Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands’ is a heartfelt adventure novel filled with sweet moments of Emily and Wendell, Shadow and many crazy Fae adventures.

I loved reading this! I found it super easy to delve straight into, and was 50% through the book on my first night reading it!

I can’t recommend this series more- Heather Fawcett’s writing is so enjoyable and filled with great moments. Can’t wait for more Emily and Wendell!

A cosy fantasy story that I surprisingly enjoyed more than the first (perhaps this was because I was used to the authors style of writing). I found this book to have an easy pace and the plot flowed well and simply. I feel that the mishaps during Emily's adventures are solved too easily (i.e. a wave of a hand and problem solved) which is frustrating when most of the book is spent stuck in said mishap, but perhaps this is the authors style of faerie magic and logic. I am used to reading fantasies that are very heavy on the world building so this is likely a me problem. I think this book would be more suited to be aimed at young adult rather than adult.
Overall I would recommend this book if you are looking for an easy and quick simple fantasy and I would continue the series.

I was really excited to read Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands. Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries was one of my favourite books last year and I was really excited to receive an ARC via NetGalley (opinions all my own).

This book was almost as good as the first one. Emily and Wendell are back, as are Poe and Shadow, alongside some new characters - Emily's niece Ariadne, who has recently started studying Dryadology, being the main one. The book starts some time after the first one ends, and sees Wendell falling ill and needing help from his long-lost home. This sets Emily off on an adventure that's a little more personal than that of the first book, leading them to the Alps and its local collection of faeries (including fox faeries!).

There's certainly more character development in this book for Emily especially which I really enjoyed. All the other good stuff from the first book was back - it's cozy, loveable, and a great adventure. If I had to say one thing it would be that there were a lot of walks in the Alps in the middle of the book that didn't really seemingly contribute much to the plot and slowed down the pace a little and I did miss some of the great characters of the first book, there didn't seem to be as many in this one.

You'll like this book if you like great (sometimes grumpy) characters, animals, faeries and sparkling descriptions of settings.

The Emily Wilde books have become one of my favorite cozy reads, especially in wintertime. I just love the vibe, I adore Emily, and I'm rooting for her and Wendell in a totally non-drama way. For once, the world is not at stake, no one is the obvious hero, and Faerie is scary but in a non-scary way (I'm aware this didn't make sense lol).
At the heart of everything is the dynamic between Emily and Wendell, and reading them I'm always picturing a young Emma Thompson and slightly older Alexis Denisof. Yes, that's my dream cast.
Both are still on a scholarly path, even with Wendell's secret out, and their romance blossoming (well...a little bit...in a really cozy way).
But also things are happening. Not many of them, but just enough to drive the protagonists and the story forward.
And in the end there is much promise for many more adventures in book 3.
The writing style is unique, and Heather Fawcett manages to combine a diary style narration with absolute stunning prose. Time and again I forgot that this was Emily writing down here adventures, just to be brought back into her notes at exactly the right times. Almost everything is from her POV which is not always reliable as she states herself. I also love it when Wendell takes over the notebook to show off his neat handwriting.

Absolute 5/5 stars because Em, Wendell, Poe, Shadow and the others now live in my head rent-free forever.

Thank you @netgalley and @littlebrownbookgroup_uk for the eARC!

Many thanks to Netgally, the publisher, and Heather Fawcett for this digital ARC!

I honestly loved this more than the first. Characters were so fun - especially liked the addition of Ariadne. It had a suer cozy vibe (unexpectedly given the plot). The banter was fabulous. It was such a lighthearted and fun read - I loved being able to revisit this world and look forward to the next release! Honestly loved it and hope the next one is like this :)
4.5 stars - will most definitely be rereading this when it comes out

really enjoyed this again! it dragged a bit more than the first book, i think because of the pacing and similarity to the first book in terms of fieldwork, villagers etc. I did enjoy the stronger emotional connection in this one and background for the characters, it felt like Emily and other characters had more growth. I also enjoyed the reoccurring characters and ending - I'm super excited for the next book to be released which I'm anticipating to be even better!

I really wanted to love this book, but unfortunately for me it just fell a bit short.

There were some aspects I enjoyed, I still enjoy the journal entry style of writing and my favourite characters Shadow and Poe, but overall I felt like this book was a lot of repatiton from the 1st book.

Will I read the 3rd though? Yes probably because I feel like this book leaves us finally on the brink of exploring the faerie realm more thoroughly, I just wish more of it had been explored in this book.

I was so so excited to get back into the world of Emily Wilde and my god this did not disappoint. The writing style was a dream and I found myself entranced in the story when I picked up my kindle. It was to pick up from the first book and continue our journey.

I also loved the plot of the book and a chance to see Emily as our heroine again. To save our Fae king and be fearless as she does so. And a chance to read about Wendell again made me the happiest, and to see their relationship blossom further.

I am so excited for the third book and can say when I saw it mentioned, a smile broke out. Thank you Netgalley for the chance to review.

I loved the first one, and this one was no different.
The banter was still there, the whimsy is present, the cosy envelops you immediately...
I cannot wait for everyone to read it so we can just go "awww" and "ohmygodtheyresocute" all the time.

This book series can get 15 sequels, and I would read them all.

I really loved the first book and was curious how the author would continue the adventures of Emily and Wendell… And I wasn’t disappointed. I thought it was as good as the first book! It was a lot more action packed (or at least it seemed that way to me) and the romance a little more at the forefront. I still love the relationship between our two main characters and how it’s slowly evolving since the beginning of book 1. The cosy vibes were still immaculate and the writing beautiful. Definitely a good sequel!
I can’t wait to see what happens in book 3!

Just as good as the first one, if not better. I had already loved Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries last year, and it ended up as one of my favorite books of 2023. This sequel was therefore highly anticipated, and Heather Fawcett did not disappoint!

It is a cozy fantasy with romance and mystery elements, just like the first one. But what I enjoyed a tiny bit more about this installment in comparison were the adventure elements in Faerie, and the addition of two new traveling companions. This made the book feel even more alive than the first one and I felt the whole time as if I was watching the second half of Howl's Moving Castle with all the characters and shenanigans (a high compliment, since it's one of my favorite movies of all time). The book also at times had the vibes of The Mummy, so if you love that movie, you'll feel right at home in this book.

Wendell Bambleby continues to be a delight and one of my top new favorite book characters of all time. In fact, the only critique I would have for the book is that it did not have quite enough Wendell.
Emily is a wonderful protagonist and as a fellow curmudgeon, I enjoy her character a lot and relate to her.
The common fae in this book were an absolute highlight, from the mean little foxes to friends from the last book - every interaction with the smallest inhabitants of Faerie put a smile on my face. And of course, as in the last book, Shadow is the goodest of boys.

I also highly enjoyed the academic writing style with all the footnotes, and the epistolary journal form.

I'm so relieved we will be getting a third book in the series as it has quickly become an all-time fave. I can't wait for the next adventure of Emily, Wendell, Shadow and the others.

(Thank you to NetGalley, Heather Fawcett and Little, Brown Book Group UK/Orbit for providing me with an eARC for this book in exchange for my honest feedback. All opinions in this review are my own.)

Since I loved the first book in this series so much, I was so happy to receive an ARC of this book through Netgalley!

The book starts off after the events of the first one, in which Emily Wilde, a prickly young professor in the field of dryadology, is on a quest to help her possibly future fianché find a door to his fairy realm in order to get his kingdom back.

Like in the first one, I think my favorite aspect of these books is the main character's strong sense of responsibility and research and her lack of social communication (it reminds me of Temperance Breannan from Bones).

"Well, he knows I am useless at small talk."

Her constant struggle with wanting to be left alone and recognizing that some tasks cannot be performed without other's help is what makes the story so funny and interesting to follow.

"I closed my eyes. This is why I work alone, I thought."

I loved all the other characters in the book as well, particularly her niece Ariadne's good humor even in the darkest of times and the bond that is created between them.

"For the Folk are terrible indeed, monters or tyrants or both, but are they not also ridiculous?"

Another aspect I love about these books is the folklore represented in them, which reminds me a lot of the fairies in "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell", who are misterious and terrifying creatures that think in such a different way from us but always with a logic of their own.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and I am really excited to see how the series is going to end.

Big thanks to Orbit and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC!

Delightfully charming.

It truly was delightful to spend time with Emily and Wendell again, to join them on their whimsical, and at times unhinged adventures. Heather Fawcett's world of faeries will always be an unending source of intrigue and enjoyment. She keeps adding world-building elements with such ease, never overwhelming the reader, but instead providing us with all sorts of mischievous and unpredictable faeries that keep adding entertainment elements.

I loved this book way better than the first one because I was already well introduced to the world and characters and somehow the plot flowed better for me. I'm so happy this series is enrichening the genre of cozy fantasy, maybe even becoming one of its main representatives! Emily and Wendell are the literary duo you just want to spend more time with.

I've just completed the second installment in the Emily Wilde series, and I'm captivated by the world the author has crafted. Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands and its predecessor form a seamless fusion of cozy fantasy, academia, delightful moments, and vibrant characters full of personality. The narrative is rich with descriptions that might overwhelm some, yet it is precisely through this intricate aspect that I found myself completely immersed in the story.

Moreover, the enjoyment factor never waned, with numerous moments that had me bursting into laughter (I adored the dynamic between the main characters).

In essence, Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands is a delightful journey into a cozy fantasy realm, custom-made for those yearning for a captivating escape from reality, prepared to embark on thrilling adventures, and eager to get acquainted with witty and clever characters.

Emily Wilde book 1 was my first read of the year, so it seemed fitting that book 2 would be my last book of the year. Emily Wilde is a cozy light academia series, book 1 was a 5 star read but unfortunately book 2 just didn't hit the same. I loved the humour of the first book and it just wasn't as prevalent in this book. We follow Emily as she is looking for the door to Wendell's faerie court so the academic aspect was great. I just missed the humour. Still a cute read, but I don't think I will be continuing the series.

"In fact, plenty of Folk are gentlemen. And plenty of mortal men are not."

GENRE: Fantasy
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
FORMAT: eBook Arc
Would I recommend to others?: YES! I loved book two just as much as I loved book one!!

Short Review:
This book was wonderful! Book one was one of my top read in 2023 and book two is a top read in 2024! I love Emily Wilde and Wendell Bambleby and how they are grump x sunshine trope. Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands is a light academia book, just like the first one. It is basically a journal entry of Emily and has footnotes, which just shows how unique and quirky Emily is (& I love that!)

In this book, we follow the adventure of Emily & Wendell again, while also meeting Emily's niece and another professor from Cambridge, Rose. We then embark on an adventure to find the doctor to Wendell's realm. Meanwhile, Emily has started working on her second book, where she is mapping the doors and the realms of the Faerie world.

Also, Emily still hasnt given Wendell a reply to his marriage proposal from book one. However, throughout this book, there is alot of interaction between Emily and Wendell and you can see them build their relationship together as Emily wraps her mind around the idea of being with a Fae. This book takes place in Austrian Alps and has a different environment as compared to book one, where it was more folky and homey. This ties well with the plot as we learn more about the Fae Folks and how the mortals are impacted by them.

This book is cozy, very cottagecore in its vibes and feelings and just had me giggling throughout at the interaction between Emily & Wendell and at both of their peculiar yet cute habits. As an introvert, I always tend to relate more to Emily and how she is quite awkward yet has good intentions AND she is clever. We also get to know a bit more about Emily through her interaction with her niece, Ariadne.

I'm looking forward to book three and cant wait to continue the adventure of Emily & Wendell.

Thank you to Little Brown for a physical Arc Copy and NetGalley for an eArc in exchange for an honest opinion.

I loved the first in this series and it’s lingered in my mind ever since I finished it, so the follow up was highly anticipated. I didn’t think it was possible, but I think I loved it even more than the previous book! Loved every page.

I’m in admiration for how these are written and they’re so vivid and the world alive. The way the author easily draws you in make them such enjoyable reads and I especially love the academics of it all as I find that itself super interesting. The world building is *mwah*. And the footnotes in Emily’s own written journal is so true to a true scholar. Spot on.

We’re back with Emily (and Wendell. My fav fae), there’s new and old characters to join and a quest to find a door and strike the right balance between the worlds and desperate attempts not to upset the fae which is an undertaking in itself. There’s attempted murder, a throne to win and lives at stake. And Poe. What more could we want?!

The story and plot was fab, characters brilliant, fantasy element fantastic. Couldn’t have a bad thing to say about the book if I tried! And massive yes to the announcement of book 3. I shall be counting down the days!

3,5 - 3,75 / 5

I wasn’t necessarily the biggest fan of “Encyclopaedia of Fairies” for a couple of reasons, so I was a bit hesitant going into the sequel. And I’m not sure what it was: the plot, the characters or maybe even the format (read book 1 as a physical book and book 2 as a digital)? But I liked this one better than book 1.

Emily and Wendell’s chemistry was great. Cute even! They seemed way more comfortable with each other compared to their relationship in book 1. I almost felt like Emily was bothered by Wendell's presence.
A pleasant surprise was that Emily was the same, yet different, in a good way. Something happened between the books with her and I like it.

We were introduced to two new characters and while I surprisingly did end up liking Rose, I wasn’t really a fan of Ariadne. She was fine in the beginning and the end but everything in between, I was disappointed and almost annoyed with her? I guess I expected some sort of friendship-like relationship between Emily and her.

The book is still rather slow, though it definitely felt faster compared to book 1, which I found *too* slow for my liking.
The plot was easier to follow and even adventurous in some parts.
There were a couple of scenes that mentioned the events from book 1, which I thought was really nice. Especially, because I think this book can almost be read as a standalone.
However, I did hit some sort of a low in the last third of the book, which was unfortunate, because it had a rather important plot point.

Nonetheless I am actually excited for the next book! The ending was rather interesting here and promises an even better plot for the book 3.

Rating - 5⭐️

I enjoyed this just as much as I enjoyed the first book. I already want to reread the first book and this book by listening to both audiobooks because I love the audiobook narrators for this series! This series is such a perfect cozy winter read, the vibes are just immaculate.

So much heartwarming found family moments that literally had me tearing up from joy. We have new characters joining Emily and Wendell but we also have appearances of characters from the first book. I absolutely adored Poe and Snowbell and all the other faerie creatures that Emily encountered. But Poe and Snowbell have my whole heart!

Emily and Wendell have become one of my favourite book couples ever and their relationship is just so cute, I can’t help squealing at their every interactions.

4.5 stars.

I really loved this book and enjoyed it much more than the first one. Already knowing the characters and the world made everything much easier to read and follow the story.
I very much enjoyed how Emily developed as a character from the first book. I didn’t really like her back then but now I do very much. Her relationship with Wendell and the new side characters was fun to read and I especially enjoyed to see how the relationships developed.
The reason why I’m not giving it a full 5 stars is because the story here felt quite similar to the first book. The setting changed but it seems like we followed the same structures and paths that we already know.
Nevertheless I can only say that all the problems I had with the first book were resolved in this one and I’m excited for the third.
Thank you NetGalley and Little, Brown.
