I just loved the premise of the storyline.
Prince Alessio felt guilty for leaving Celiana and leaving his royal life behind. When the king, his father, died, he came back. Needing a wife, the family decided to hold a lottery where Brie ended up winning to become a princess. But she didn't want to win.
With a massive gene pool of royalty, this probably would never happen, but it was so good to dip into the fantasy world where it's just possible it could.
This made a great escape read, and I'm already looking forward to reading King Sebastian's story.
I received an ARC from Mills and Boona Ned NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I am beginning to think that Mills and Boon are really losing the plot. The obsession with royalty is leading them down the road of pedestrain, repetitive themes. I am so fed up with the endless royal families and island monarchies where the royal family are the same tortured, miserable products of abysmal parents. Where they all behave as if it was 1955 . I find the world building generally poor and so predictable.
And so it was with this one. An island monarchy a few miles from Majorca ( are you kidding me? ). A lottery to win the prize of being the Prince’s bride? (Now you really have to be joking! )
The premise was utterly ridiculous and the follow on story was pedestrian and I’m afraid, rather boring.
I hate to be so critical knowing how much work the author will have done to write this book but I just was not engaged with either the h/H or the plot. I think there are so many fabulous stories in the Mills and Boon canon - (Kate Hardy, Maisey Yates, Abby Green, Heidi Rice anyone?) and this story simply didn’t hit the mark like books by those authors do.
The author can write well but I need more credibility in my romances. Suspension of disbelief is one thing but suspension of all credibility is simply not on. This is worth a read, but it’s not exciting. Sorry.
