What a colorful, fact-filled book on Barcelona, Spain, and its vibrant art and art community! Perfect for travelers who plan to visit, or those who've been, or armchair travelers who wish they could go. Highly recommended.
An interesting guide for art in Barcelona. I found the interviews with artists unnecessary in this book, instead, I would prefer the author mentioned more places of art in the city.
The Art Lover's Guide to Barcelona. This is a brilliant guide for anyone wanting to go on a tour of Barcelona. This is definitely the book to take with you. The amount of information is brilliant and I love the way it is structured. Full of colour and great illustrations. If you are interested in history and politics there is a bit of that too. There is even a 3 day itinerary that you can follow, and restaurant recommendations. I loved the guide to the street art and I will definitely be taking this with me when I visit Barcelona later in the year
So much great info! Starts out with a rather heavy history both political and art-oriented. I found the information on the different districts of Barcelona to be invaluable. The 3 day planned itinerary seems well thought out and easy to follow. The restaurant recommendations are an added bonus! Part 3 which has information on museums, galleries etc is extremely thorough. It is beyond helpful to have all this info in one spot when designing your own itinerary! Section 7 art in public places was a surprise. I never realized how much art was every where on the city streets & parks. Section 8 on urban street art is the most interesting part of the book! Part 4 conversations with artists, gallery & museum curators is extremely interesting! All in all this is a tremendous resource for planning an art focused visit to Barcelona. Well worth reading!
First of all, Thank You Netgalley for the ARC granted. I always dreamt to travel the world through countries that are full of architecture and History because it fascinates me a lot, and this one is a good imersion in both subjects which Spain is full at I loved it!
Easily a perfect addition to our store shelves & coffee tables! Thank you so much for the advanced copy. Can’t wait to get the physical ones in!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to review an advanced reader’s copy of this book. I am looking forward to visiting Barcelona and this book just increased my excitement. The layout is good and photography is excellent. This is definitely a great book for those interested in the art world. The interviews with artists wasn’t really of interest to me but will be for the right audience. 3.5 stars
Thinking of going to Barcelona, either really or virtually? Been there and want to think back on your trip? Interested in art in general? Readers in any (or all) of these categories will want to give this title a look.
Inside is a wonderful guide to the art scene in Barcelona. The book is well organized with sections on history, practical tips, 36 hours in Barcelona, art in varying locales (museums, galleries, street art, etc.) and conversations with those in the art scene. There are even sections on art classes and buying art. The text is accompanied by many photographs.
All in all, it is easy to recommend this guide.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Pen & Sword for this title. All opinions are my own.
I now really want to go to Barcelona again !
A great book if you have already been to Barcelona but even better if you are yet to go. It almost made me feel as if I was there, the book is an experience in itself. Loved it.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley.
For anyone interested in the arts, this would be a good resource in planning a trip to Barcelona. This lists a bunch of places where you could go to see art, from museums to outdoor public art. There is also a section with interviews of art people there, which I personally don't care about, but I know some people like. There are also some practical tips and a short history lesson included. If/when I go to Spain, I'd definitely give this another look and use it to help with planning.
Thank you NetGalley for letting me preview this book! This is exactly the kind of book that I like to read before traveling somewhere. I'm honestly thinking that I will use this book as an excuse to try to visit Barcelona now.
What makes this book so great is its organization and information. It starts out with a history of the different kinds of art you can find in Barcelona, with just enough information so you have the broad strokes of the history. Then you start getting advice on what kind of art you can see and the best ways to see it. There are even hints on how to see art for free or reduced prices and what time is best to visit. The author also gives examples of how to make a schedule so you can fit a lot in.
If you don't actually want to visit Barcelona, you can still read this fantastic book and look at the amazing pictures of the city. While you are reading the book, you can look up Barcelona walking tours on YouTube to get more of the full experience.
This book is fun if you plan to visit Barcelona or just get a sense of the city and its art and the associated artists. There's few days worth of museum hopping that you can do. You get a sense of the place, artists, museums art curators and how the city is teeming with art and artists alike with its street graffiti and sculptures and gardens.
