Never Getting Back Together
Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Spice- 🚫

When I started reading NGBT I thought it was going to just be a cheesy, corny rom-com, but I was wrong! I had the best time reading it! Quinn and Ty were high school sweethearts that had a bad argument that led to Ty skipping town and not looking back. Quinn and Ty have to host the town festival when one of their friends has a family emergency. Quinn was so stubborn and frustrating that she got in her own way a lot of the time, but it was part of the charm of the book! This is a small town, second chance romance with no spice. You can really feel the deep connection between the characters, and how sometimes pride will really block your way to happiness.

Krysti Meyer included chronic illness representation. I personally had never heard of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). In the authors note you find out that she personally suffers from this exact illness, and that it was only recently discovered.

"Never Getting Back Together" by Krysti Meyer initially drew me in with its adorable cover of a field of sunflowers and its title. Don't tell me I was the only one who immediately thought of Taylor Swift when I first saw it.

However, when I also learned that it was marketed as "Gilmore Girls meets Sweet Home Alabama," I clicked download so hard that I probably caused my finger permanent damage.

Unfortunately, this small-town, second-chance romance didn't quite hit its mark for me. I hate when books have characters who don't communicate with each other. Miscommunication is probably the reason I rated this story as low as it is. However, when the main characters, Quinn and Ty, weren't inducing eye rolls with their lack of communication, their banter was charming and increased my enjoyment.

This is a lovely, well-written book with a great storyline, albeit it one which leans heavily on the 'you could sort this out if you just talked to each other' premise. The entire book would fall apart if it wasn't set in america, since it relies on the trope of not being able to pay for healthcare, but that aside, it's a fun read which I really enjoyed (whilst being grateful for universal heathcare).

Super Cute story.

Second Chance Romance
High School Sweethearts
Small Town
Clean/Sweet Romance

Book Blurb describes this story as Gilmore Girls meets Sweet Home Alabama, and I would concur.

Single POV
We follow Quinn as she navigates young adulthood with a medical condition. She needs $$ because her medication is no longer covered by her father's medical insurance, so she is pursuing a scholarship while helping co-host the towns biggest event, with her ex.

Lots of drama.
Lots of petty behavior
Little bit of healing

I liked that this book truly focused on the FMCs reasons for doing what she is doing. Seeing her determination even though she stumbles and is truly out of her element is inspiring.

The MMC is a bit immature still, but he shows up and makes an effort. I liked that he understood her needs & fears, he helpwd hee through them instead of just taking over.

Originally I requested to read this arc because who doesn’t love small town, Gilmore girl vibes?? There were definitely a few things that I really liked in this book: the second change romance between Ty and Quinn was really sweet. I think there’s something endearing about them and their growth as a couple. It was refreshing as realistically we don’t know who we are in high-school! There was also some nice inclusive qualities about the book: same-sex couples and chronic illness. The book was sweet, and easy to read. Personally, I found some gaps in the personalities of the characters and while it was suppose to be a southern, small town book I often missed that vibe (or it was inconsistent). Personally for me as well, the book was written quite young and didn’t have that angst/steam that I typically look for in my romance novels.

Overall rating: 2.5 stars

Main Tropes:
Second chance romance
Small town

This was just ADORABLE! As soon as I saw the description said Sweet Home Alabama meets Gilmore Girls I knew I had to read this. It was so sweet, and heartfelt. I loved seeing the ins and outs of someone living with a chronic illness! The way Quinn navigated her life felt so relatable with the need to control everything that she could after all of her struggles. I enjoyed how she worked thru her thoughts and feelings regarding Ty too. This was just a perfect feel good, sweet as pie book!

I really wanted to Love this book. This is my brutally honest opinion with this book. I was so excited because the cover is beautiful and I’ve been on the hunt for a good romance novel. However for me this just wasn’t it, The Story plot and Love shown overall wasn’t an issue, it’s cute but in a Teenager, PG-13 kind of way. While there are certain scenes that give “mature vibes” I just felt it was cringey at how the romance is portrayed. The beginning was a bit dragged out, I found myself also Reading 2-3 pages and wanting to read something else because I was uninterested.
For me I craved deeper romance & maturity within the characters. This Romance wasn’t for me unfortunately, I know some people have mentioned they Love it, especially since it has their favorite Taylor swift references, I didn’t care for any of that personally. It’s a good book but not for me Overall I would recommend to anyone who likes lighter (YA) romance novels.

I enjoyed this book and the heroine, Quinn. It was nice to read about a main character with chronic illness, and how that factors into daily life. This is a novel about second chance love and the cast of characters was really good. I enjoyed the small, quirky town that the book was set in as well.

Started off cute and I love a small-town romance. Unfortunately, it fizzled pretty quickly. The sunflower cover is what originally drew me in and this one had promise. I loved the foodie aspect, and the chronic illness representation was excellent. There were quite a few chronic illnesses mentioned and while I understand the intent, I think it would have had more impact had the focus been on just Quinn's. There was very little planning of the festival and more just execution of what had already been planned so that plot line did not work for me. I skimmed the last third just to get through it. Thank you, NetGalley, for the eARC.

My first book of December was this cute, small town, second chance, Taylor Swift vibe RomCom.

It was a great take on an FMC with chronic illness and how she used it to inspire and improve the life of herself and others.

I loved how the character development was there even though it's only a short one.

I'd have liked more spice, as I feel it would have added a little more dimension to the story, but I really enjoyed.

A great 4 star read.

This was a very sweet second chance small town romance. The book itself isn’t typically what I would normally read but the cover grabbed my attention and I was pleasantly surprised!

I did receive a complimentary copy from NetGalley and opinions expressed are my
Own.

Ahh Quinn and Ty were just adorable, you could feel how much they still loved each other even though they had unresolved issues, and their banter was incredibly fun!
Also have to give a shout out to Aunt Betty who had me giggling multiple times haha.

I loved the unique aspect of the fmc living with a chronic condition, and how she used her own knowledge of it for both her own benefit and the people in her community.
There is some miscommunication which I know is not everyone’s favourite trope, but in this case it didn’t bother me too much. I could see they lacked trust in each other based on how things ended the first time. But the things that they held from each other lead to more conflict until they were finally completely honest with each other.

Overall it was a quick, cute read!

“At the end of the day, all we have is who we are and the people we love.”

I was browsing NetGalley and noticed that this was listed as Read Now. I’m a sucker for second chance romances and small town romances. So, I knew that I had to check this one out. And I’m so glad that I did because this was absolutely precious. The vibes are strong in this one—> Gilmore Girls meets Sweet Home Alabama. Two of my favorites! And there are a TON of other movie references, which I absolutely loved! I have mad love for Quinn (FMC) and Ty (MMC). I give their banter a 1000000000/10. They’re freaking hilarious. Watching them come together to help their friends was soooo entertaining and sweet. I’m selfish and want more of these sweet little second chance babies. But, I’m so glad that they got their happily ever after.

Krysti’s writing and the short chapters made this so easy to absorb and follow. It was the perfect amount of detail and length. I can’t express how enjoyable my reading experience was. I highly encourage you to read the author’s note at the end. You will appreciate this book even more!

List of representation:
-Chronic illness/conditions: Quinn (FMC) has Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. Others briefly mentioned: Hashimoto’s, Lupus, Melanoma, PCOS, fibromyalgia
-Queer: F/F
-Mental health: anxiety

If you’re a Swiftie, you’ll LOVE this!

Thank you to NetGalley and Krysti Meyer for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Unfortunately this wad a DNF for me. I really couldn’t get to like the characters; our leading lady came across as extremely immature (think 12 year old levels of maturity) and annoying. I gave up about 5 chapters in as I found I genuinely didn’t care what happened to her

⭐️⭐️⭐️.75

This is a fun book with a couple who are crazy about each other but struggle to open up and show it.

Quinn is an amazing female main character—strong and so captivating to read.

Ty was the perfect book boyfriend; his patience and obvious love for her were heartwarming.

But gotta admit, the bad communication annoyed me at various points.

I loved this slow-burn, small town romance!
Ty returns home after years of being away to find that there’s still a connection between him and Quinn.
Quinn who recently has gotten her illness and life pulled together gets her world shaken up when Ty returns. Things start to fall apart and she realizes she still has feelings for Ty on top of everything else happening in her life.
There was just enough tension between the two main characters to be excited about their inevitable pull towards each other.
If you love a sweet, second chance romance, this is a must read!

Quinn would have been perfectly happy to continue pretending Ty Rossi doesn't exist. But when their mutual friend has a family emergency and has to leave town suddenly, Quinn and Ty are left in charge of their town's Founder's Festival. If they can survive an entire week of co-hosting events without murdering each other, it'll be a miracle. Their tempers ignite like flames set to paper anytime they're together. But the more time she spends with Ty, the more Quinn questions if all those sparks are fueled entirely by hate

I love me a second-chance romance! I feel like I overuse the word "cute" a lot, but this story really was very cute. They had witty banter, competitive activities, a small-town full of funny and quirky side characters, and most importantly this story had some really great chronic-illness representation.

Never Getting Back Together was a cute, swoony, easy read. I finished it within a day. I will say what really pulled me into the story was the banter between Quinn and Ty. They truly loved each other but just weren't sure how to show it or how to bring up what happened in the past.

The miscommunication part pulled down the rating for me. With Quinn flying off the hinges at every small thing and Ty being overly secretive about everything, it just kind of made you roll your eyes. Even when they tried to open up and talk, they still kept their true feelings to themselves at first.

Quinn has finally learned to live with her chronic illness, and she is doing what she can to help others in her shoes. While working to get her nutrition certification, she is teaching classes on how to cook for certain allergies. When Ty, her ex, comes home for summer break her whole world is turned upside down. They had broken up 3 years ago and have not spoken or seen each other since. Ty has a reason for coming home, but he keeps it all to himself, not sure how to work through his reasoning.

Quinn and Ty have amazing chemistry, I loved the banter and the pull between them. They truly had Sweet Home Alabama vibes. The small-town charm reminded me of Stars Hollow, I loved the characters and the town festival.

All the movie, tv show, music references got to be a bit much for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Krysti Meyer for the advanced copy of Never Getting Back Together.

This book is told through Quinn’s POV! This story starts with a hilarious splash! Quinn sees her ex boyfriend for the first time in 3 years and it isn’t a very happy reunion!

Ty was the love of her life but he left town when Quinn needed him the most and the hurt she Carries runs deep.

I really liked how Quinn was her crazy, silly self! She is who she is and she is strong! Life has thrown some curve balls at her and she’s trying to juggle them all the best she can she just needs to learn to trust!

Ty definitely had a-lot of patience and I liked that even when she pushed him away he still stood there waiting for her to love him again! I do wish that Quinn was more open to convos because though she was strong she sometimes stood in her own way.
