I had never heard of this Author. Before reading this book. I saw it on netgalley and thought it sounded like an interesting plot and was really excited to read it. Unfortunately it just didn't hold my interest. The story was very slow to get going and I found it quite confusing. I can't even say I particularly liked any of the main characters. I am gutted to be writing this because I had such high hopes for this book. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my advance copy.

I enjoyed most of this book . Set in two timeperiods 25 years apart, it is the story of 3 female medical students/later doctors who are also best friends. In both time periods, a young man dies at a party, the circumstances are revealed gradually. There is a lot of detail about the lives of the three women, both personal and in their jobs as doctors. I enjoyed that part and the descriptions of both time periods and different parts of their lives allowed you to build up a good picture of who these people are and to understand their decision making. For me, the book began to unravel towards the end. I do not want to give too much away, but I was not keen on the way things were tied up at the end.
Certainly not a bad read though and I would like to thank Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book

Moral Injuries is an intriguing book full of twists and turns. I loved not knowing what was going to happen next as this was filled with lies, secrets and betrayal. Although this was a bit slow paced at times I still really enjoyed reading this and all the characters were interesting and had a lot of depth. I think a lot of people will fall in love with Watson's writing style and love this book.

What a fabulous book. I was totally hooked and involved with the lives of Olivia, Anjali and Laura. Meeting as students and becoming fast friends, the book follows their endeavours to qualify and work in the world if medicine. Their friendship grows steadily until life intervenes and everything changes. A tragedy and someone's endeavours to punish one of the trio has lifelong repercussions. Brilliant novel.

The book begins at a party with someone seriously injured and then flicks between then and now. We meet Laura, Olivia and Anjali at medical school in 1999 where we find out early on that something bad had happened there and now 25 years later when a boy is injured at a party their kids were at, it starts to bring up secrets and lies from the past. This is a book about friendship and betrayal and how far people go to get their own back. I liked the medical side of the book, I found this very interesting and you can tell Christie has good expertise and knowledge. I enjoyed reading this and will be recommending.

Initially this book started out quite well but once you get further in it just jumps about everywhere. I normally enjoy books that go from one period of time to another, but this did it with 3 different characters and became pretty difficult to follow.

The actual guts of the story didn’t get anywhere until around 70% and then died of quite quickly. The plot was there but it wasn’t executed very well. All the various elements of the story didn’t link up properly and it didn’t seem to flow very well. It jumped about all over the place. Some events seemed unnecessary and as though they were added just to pad the book out.

I’ve gave this 2 stars because I do feel there’s a decent plot line in there, somewhere, but it takes a lot of working out.

This was my first book by this author. It caught my eye on netgalley, the cover is striking and the premise really intrigued me. I wouldn't describe this book as fast paced but it held my interest, was juicy, full of secrets and betrayal! Think desperate housewives mixed with ER. I do think this would be a very good choice for a book club as it would provide lots of discussion around moral and ethical dilemmas. I thought the characters were interesting and well developed and I enjoyed the dual timeline.

I also think it would make great TV! A very enjoyable bit of escapism, 3⭐️

I have just finished this book. This is enthralling, heart breaking and a window into the world of Dr’s, surgeons and other medical staff. The lives they hold in their hands and how life can tip on a knife edge within seconds. This is quite a dark read but worth it.

Excellent read. Bit different from my usual choices but appealed as my daughter is a doctor and this follows three girls through medical school and how their history has repercussions in the present day.
Well written, interesting and thought provoking, Recommended.

When I saw this on NetGalley I thought that is just perfect for me. Having been in the medical profession for 43+ years and set where I used to live it was tailor made!
Sadly not. It took a long time to get going. I couldn't really see much difference between 1999 and 2024 threads and often lost track of which thread I was reading. Quite a lot of medical info, which is fine if you're medical but if you're not? Some inaccuracies. GP training is usually independent to hospital doctor training. Different topics are covered. Also I've never worked in a surgery that had Naloxone in the cupboard, our paramedics usually carry it.
Some parts of the book just didn't ring true. All three main characters were extremely unlikeable
I'm so sad that this book fell flat for me. I wanted to love it

An excellent portrayal of female friendships and the devastating consequences when a friendship sours. The book addresses moral Injuries and how people's perception of what is right and wrong varies by individual. Set in the world of medicine, I enjoyed the women's progression from students to seasoned professionals. The women are beautifully drawn: you feel ypu know them, their strengths and flaws.

However, while the book was very strong until the halfway point, the pacing became a little slow. It seemed to stretch credibility a bit far by having two similar party related tragedies in two generations. I began to lose track of who knew what about the incidents.

I really enjoyed this book. Three girls meet as they start to train as doctors. Anjali, Olivia and Laura. They stay together through their training and become firm friends. They decide on different specialities. Anjali becomes a GP, Olivia a heart surgeon and Laura an air ambulance doctor. The girls share a secret. During training something happens involving drugs and they stand together to keep this secret. Anjali has always thought the drama was her fault as she was in an abusive relationship which resulted in the forming of this secret. The story continues through their lives. Olivia is married to Dele and has two children. Laura is divorced with one child and Anjali is living with another woman, is really happy and in the system to adopt. Laura herself is not in a happy place and takes her angst out on long hours, hard work and risky sexual relationships. Laura’s son and Olivia’s daughter end up in a drama. Laura believes in her son totally but Olivia is trying to convince her that he is to blame and that her daughter is innocent even though the story is not the same as Laura’s son gives her. Who is telling the truth. The problem with this drama is that it is reminiscent of the secret that the women have kept for many years. This situation causes discourse between the three women and things come out that makes Laura and Anjali question what did happen all those years ago. The relationships start to fall apart especially as Anjali’s partner has strong moral fibre and goes to the police about the secret all those years ago once she finds out that there is a man who was sent to prison due to the secret. The story goes from strength to strength and I really enjoyed the characters. A lot of ethical issues here and I would like to see this in a TV show

I was drawn to this book because of the title moral injuries are being increasingly written about in the medical press, and as a doctor, I am highly aware of the issue, which was thought the head by Covid pandemic
I’m always intrigued to read about doctors in novels to see how realistic the writing can be
The no looks at the lives of three female doctors at the peak of their career in the current time and during the training as flashbacks
That’s no date on the first chapter which makes it difficult to slide it chronologically into the story I didn’t really understand this as other chapters did have the date marked clearly at the start of the chapter
As a doctor it’s important to me that the medical information seems realistic . it was clear as I read that the author had a background in hospital medicine I didn’t discover until the end that she was a hospital nurse rather than the doctor. Majority medical information included in the book was realistic .
Just a little niggle, it takes at least 10 years from the end of Medical school to become a consultant and several of the young women in this story have children which would potentially extend the timeframe .the two time periods looked at in the story on 1999 and 2024 I think the earliest section section would’ve been better set earlier in the 90s
The story is told in a succession of flashbacks, when increasing details, are revealed about a previous incident, involving the doctors in the centre of the story. I have to admit that there were times when I found myself a little bit lost I had trouble following the storyline. I found the characters believable although possibly slightly predictable in their behaviour I felt I had met some of these people before in my own career. These characterisations were the strongest points in the novel.
I did struggle a bit to understand their motivations in the early career incident and didn’t enjoy the way the book was ended.

I read an early copy of the novel on NetGalley UK. The book is published in the UK on the 14th of March 2024 by Orion publishing group.
This review will appear on NetGalley, UK, Goodreads and my book blog bionicSarah’ books.wordpress.com
After publication, the review will also appear on Amazon, UK

Alluding to an incident in their student days that has forever tied them, the three main characters are friends, but their dark secret taints every interaction, whether they realise it or not.
The characters are well written but difficult to empathise with, making it more difficult to get on board with their decisions and behavior.
With a new threat to their friendship in the form of an incident involving their children the truth slowly comes out.
For me the book was a bit slow in the first half, there was a lot of scene setting that could perhaps have been condensed in places and hints dropped about the deep dark secret from the past that were perhaps a little too frequent, but overall a good read.

I was looking forward to this book as it was written by a nurse and related to medicine so I thought it would be well written and accurate in the medical aspects. It follows a dual timeline and aludes to an event which happened while the three main characters were medical students. The full story doesn't come out until much later.

The characters are well written and believable but it took me a really long time to get into it and almost put it aside but persevered. It could have done with a little more editing as some of the sentences didn't flow but that is a minor quibble. As GPs are independent contractors to the NHS they don't generally have their updates with hospital staff as Anjali did. Also I have never come across a GP surgery which keeps Naloxone in their cupboard, that would be the remit of the paramedics to administer. Perhaps it's different in London where heroin overdoses may be more commonplace.

The book improved in the last third and I enjoyed it but also found some of the character actions annoying, not because of the writing but because I could imagine the selfishness that could lead a person to do them. One character in particular seemed to think they could manipulate events but I don't want to give too much away.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC

Moral Injuries delves into the complexities of mature female friendship and the intense world of medicine. The dual time line story revolves around three lifelong friends, Laura, Olivia, and Anjali who met on the first day of medical school. When a tragic event involving their teenage children occurs, everything the three women have achieved is threatened.
From the very first page, I was captivated and could not put it down - a great read

This was an amazingly complex and well written book with twists and turns and an amazing story at the centre, I raced through it to get to the ending.

My absolute favourite kind of book. Anything intelligently, excitingly medical! Moral Injuries definitely fills the bill. The story jumps back and forth between 1999 and 2024. Three women meet as new medical students in 1999. By 2024 they are highly experienced doctors. Something occurs in 1999 that the women cover up. Will they do the same thing in 2024 when their children are involved in a similar situation? How do these events influence their ongoing relationships and careers? The book deals with these questions. It also manages to convey the enormous pressures on women who work in highly responsible jobs and have families. A fantastic read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am happy to recommend it. 5*
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy. All opinions are my own.
