This book combines elements of dark academia, horror, and fantasy. I thought the book was pretty good, and the mixture of mythology was interesting as well. It was well written, and as a fan of Dark Academia, I would recommend it to others.

The plot was entertaining, though there were some parts that seemed a little slow or boring, and it took me a while to get into it. But since the book picks up significantly later on, I would still say it is definitely worth reading.

Thank You to Netgalley and Michael Joseph, Penguin, Random House for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book honestly wasn't for me. I liked the synopsis and thought I would love this book, but I just couldn't connect to the main character. There was nothing about Andy. Her whole purpose was her sister so I found it hard to be invested in her story. I would love to have her form more relationships at the beginning, outside of her investigation of her sisters disappearance. She came across as rude to people trying to be helpful. I get why she was distrustful but there were no merits to get character.

It was well written, but it has it wasn't for me sadly.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy - This is a nice easy well paced read. I thought the magic system and underworld was a well designed concept. However I did have issues with the main character being so impulsive and some of the plot points, for example I found it extremely unbelievable that so many deaths (somewhere around the figure of 60 in 120 years in/around the school) could be completely covered up. That's just not possible. But, if you like YA dark academia, you will probably like this.

I went into All The Devils relatively blind, since I couldn’t remember for the life of me what the blurb was when I started reading the eARC. But it drew me in quickly and kept my attention the whole way through.

Dark academia meets Gods and demons meets magic meets who-dun-it meets secret society meets faked death.. It’s got a little bit of everything all wrapped up in a unique and intriguing storyline.

Overall I really enjoyed this book, the storyline and the twists and turns kept me entertained enough that I could forgive the moments it felt a little lacking. The romance between Jae and Andy felt a little forced at times, jumping from enemies turned allies to if-not-love-then-infatuation with barely a hint as to why the turnaround. I also didn’t feel like Violet was fully fleshed out in a way that made me understand why Andy felt so loyal to her aside from just ‘sister’ (I love my family, but if they’re an absolute ass all the time, they don’t retain my unwavering loyalty without other redeeming features, you know?)

Anyhoo, those mild niggles didn’t really affect my overall feelings about the book and truly, they’re more personal feelings about character building than anything that affects the overall story. Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Random House and Catelyn Wilson for gifting me this eARC.

All the Devils by Catelyn Wilson is a gripping rollercoaster ride that had me hooked from start to finish.

The fast paced book follows Andy Emmerson on her quest to uncover the truth behind the death of her sister Violet.

The plot twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat with each revelation adding layers of complexity to the mystery.

The authors vivid descriptions bring Ravenswood Academy to life, painting a haunting picture of a picturesque school hiding dark secrets.

If you love dark academia, secret societies and the supernatural…then this book is perfect for you. I adored this book and won’t be forgetting it anytime soon.

I'm not usually one to not finish a book, I tried really hard to get through this but I just couldn't bring myself to keep reading. The writing is overly descriptive and juvenile. I had no love or attachment to the MC who didn't read as likable, she goes blindly into situations and her narrative was frustrating. Although the plot was intriguing it fell short for me as some things happend so quickly and others were drawn out, it was hard to build a timeline. The other characters in the story added little to no interest for me and i felt none of the rivals to lovers aspect. I can see how this story is appealing to others and im sure for the right person it's a great YA read. I'd like to thank the author and publisher for the digital arc.

Thank you NetGalley for an Advanced Reader copy of All The Devils. I did really enjoy this book, it was gothic, slow burn with reluctant allies to lovers, and quite a few plot twists and turns along the way that was not predictable.

This book is about Andy who doesn’t believe her sister is dead and decides to take it upon her self to discover the truth. The story itself was quite unique and merged a very gothic, dark academia novel with magic, gods and mythology but does it in a very interesting way. I haven’t read a book like this before! The relationship with her sister soon starts to show us it is not what we think and this is a recurring theme throughout the relationships in the book - especially with the MMC in the book. The story was enjoyable but fell a little flat near the end for me. I will still pick up book 2 when it comes out as i want to see how the main relationship develops and where the story will lead.

The writing style is very descriptive and i was able to imagine everything so easily which helped to really pull you into the story and keep you hooked throughout. Unfortunately the ending let it down for me which is why this is a 3.5 stars (rounded up to 4 stars) but is still worth the read!

ooof, ok super grateful for the ARC from PMJ and I did agree to provide an honest review so here we go:

PROS:
- Felt very heavily inspired by ACE OF SPADES which I loved
- The format made for very easy reading on the eyes
- Secret underground societies
- Gods and monsters
- Heavy on the Art History
- Dark Academia

CONS:
- Juvenile writing
- Insufferably self indulgent MC who is harsh, quick to anger, irrational and kind of dangerous because she rushes into EVERYTHING blindly
- Some parts weren't fleshed out and so felt rushed while we were expected not to question huge plot holes
- Every character is quite one dimensional with no true development
- We don't get to know much about the school as Andy doesn't interact with it much even though she's running around the place like a headless chicken
- I would have loved some info about Andy and Violet's family background given some of the revelations

OVERALL:
The premise is actually brilliantly intriguing and has promise but the execution was lack lustre. That being said, it's actually still a relatively fun read to get snuggled up with in the evenings - great for some light hearted Autumn/Winter reading I think.

*ARC received from Netgalley - all opinions are my own*

TLDR: Very light on the academia, leans more towards an occult murder mystery that just happens to take place at a school as there’s little to no school life throughout the entire book. Main character is difficult to love and the overall plot feels weak. Don’t regret reading but wouldn’t purchase.

From the get go “Dark Academia'' isn't what I’d class this as since there are like 1 or 2 (if I remember correctly) proper school scenes throughout the entire book and just serves as a convenient setting which is a shame as I love a good academia setting! Although they did liken the book to the tv show Wednesday which seems pretty accurate as I don’t remember a whole lot of academia focussed settings.

Our main character got really tiring real fast. I'm unsure what police department would ever take someone seriously if they came talking about demons being summoned and people disappearing into the afterlife. It feels like Andy, our FMC, is just constantly going on about the authorities, even until the end, and it gets old. Especially when she’s so rude to Jae and proclaiming she can figure everything out herself, but literally never thinks for herself and just complains and relies on everyone else while being so rude.

I love the occult and horror elements and even how the “afterlife” was explained and how it works. It really helped carry the story and keep me intrigued! The plot in general though was pretty weak and even at the ending, you’re still left unsure why the society was summoning the demon as you never actually get to understand how their version of “a better world” looks. There were more plot holes throughout but that was a big one that annoyed me at the end.

Also the very last chapter? How is that even going to work?

Unfortunately this book really turned out to not be for me. I didn’t properly read up on it before requesting, and only found out that it was Young Adult after starting it. Most of the issues I had with this book were due to it being YA, as they are typical components of the genre. So, not to say they are issues with the book, just not my personal preference.
I found the writing style to be quite unpolished or juvenile, with the author trying to use flowery fancy language at points where it doesn’t add to the point. The use of too many adjectives makes the story seem to bounce around the point and distracts me from the book.
Even as I found myself 100+ pages into the book, I struggled to connect with the FMC, and didnt find myself attached to her. She seemed to have no personality of her own, simply a love for her sister and a ‘not like other girls’ complex.
The book is described as a combination of Ninth House and Netflix’s Wednesday, the former of which I adored, and the latter I didn’t care for. I felt as though the book was definitely more similar to Wednesday than Ninth House, so if you enjoyed that show, you would almost certainly enjoy this book.

A secret society steeped in mystery, magic and arcane rituals - this gothic dark academia story had the perfect recipe for everything I should love. However, it didn’t quite deliver. I think the author got a little lost as the story progressed and tried to introduce too many elements that they weren’t able to capture fully.

There were aspects that were really well done and I felt the story started off very strongly. I would have loved to have seen a clearer character arc for Andy and gained a deeper understanding of the wider characters, especially the motivations of Violet. I appreciate this was explored but I don’t think it was very believable.

I had hoped it would either lean more into the grotesque horror like it did in the beginning or push the magic further. I felt that the magic system wasn’t fully explained and we only gained a relatively small understanding of how it worked. I believe this story could have pushed the boundaries further and has the bones of a really compelling tale.

I do think this is an interesting story and would be an excellent introduction for those wanting to explore YA dark academia with light horror elements.

I love the dark academy theme about this book, but I wish we had more scenes inside the academy.

Even tho I enjoyed the book and I think it has a lot of positive points, one of the weakest for me, is Andy, the main character. I wish she had more personality, she was kinda boring at times. Violet seemed to have potential and it feels like it was wasted.

The ending was ok, but I give this book 4 stars cause it kept me entertained and it doesn’t disappoint if you like dark academy, secret societies and magic.

Thank you endlessly Net galley and the publisher for the arc.

GENRE: Dark Academia & Gothic Fantasy
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
FORMAT: eBook Arc
Would I recommend to others?: Definitely recommending it to gothic fantasy & dark academia fantasy lovers. This book is more YA though and if that isnt your vibe, then it might not be for you!

Review:
All the devils follows the adventure of Andy after finding out that her sister Violet has died. We start off the book by Andy discovering that Violet's body (in the casket) isn't actually her sister. With this information, Andy goes on a hunt to: 1) Find her sister & 2) Find out what's going on.

She goes to Ravenswood Academy, where her sister used to study and last was before she supposedly died. She begins to learn more about what Violet was part of and what Ravenswood is all about as an exclusive and elite boarding school. She finds a cryptic note from Violet and she has to help Violet.

Andy meets Jae, an alluring & dark, yet helpful MMC. She finds out that her and Jae's motive are tied together and reluctantly accepts his help. We get to see their relationship flourish and grow:
"To everyone, even Violet, and most important, myself, I've just been Andy. But to Jae, I feel like Andromeda. Hidden among the stars. Something you can only see if you look just right."

All the devils dives into multiple mythologies based on death, magic and dark magic as well. The book has two settings: Ravenswood in the human world & the underworld. I would have enjoyed a bit more depth in the knowledge of the mythologies as alot of it is written assuming we have some prior knowledge of the said myth. However, it definitely gives eerie vibe & serves its purpose in introducing multiple different Gods/Monsters that served their purposes in the plot.

I do think that All the devils is fast paced and focuses more on the event of what is happening rather than building a world and understanding the characters in depth. However, I did feel we had a good understanding of Jae, Violet and Andy. I think overall, we get the idea of what they want, their goals & how it contributes to the story. I also think that the author did a really good job in building the mystery in the story and unraveling it bit by bit.

I quite enjoyed it and enjoyed the dark academia/gothic vibes in it. I'd recommend it to people who enjoy fast paced stories and these sub-genres. Thank you to the Netgalley for sending me an eArc in exchange for my honest opinion and reviews.

The concept of this book is perfectly up my street. I love everything dark academia and magic honestly can rarely go wrong if this is your cup of tea.

Plot was interesting and enjoyable, fmc wasn’t my favourite to be honest but just because she wasn’t for me doesn’t mean she wouldn’t be someone else’s favourite.

I feel like a lot of people would like this book

Thank you to NetGalley and the wonderful publisher for the Arc on this one, I am awarding 4 stars here.

Dark academia, not a genre I have ventured into before but I am glad that I did and I will certainly revisit the genre again in the future.

There are plenty of pros with All the Devils, one of which being the world building. The world has enough depth that you are immersed in the universe, though during the first half of the book it does seem a little two dimensional. As the story progresses the world opens up and offers the reader a better overview and this is where the experience jumps up from a 3 star to a 4.

The romance in the book is tentative, and certainly slow burn but it is paced well and has some really fun moments as the relationship builds.

As for the characters, again they don’t really feel substantial enough to grip me too firmly and they do come across a little flat in the first third to half of the book.

Andy, the main female lead is a little aggravatingly doe eyed and naive to begin with but does strengthen eventually.

Jae, the main male lead is delightful but I felt we could have done with seeing a little more of him early on, though this does add to his allure I did find myself hoping he would enter stage left more often than he did.

The second half of the book did paint them as far more endearing and emotionally fleshed out, and this is where I began turning pages quicker. There is plenty of room for growth with Andy and Jae and hopefully we will get to see this in the next book. There is another character I am looking forward to seeing more of but I will skip over them for spoiler purposes.

The mythology in the book and the magic is something that is stumbled around in more than explored. This left a tantalising mystery in place for the second book which does have me intrigued enough to return for the next instalment, which I am looking forward to.

All the Devils is a good setup for what is to come, the pacing is a little fast and I did feel a tad bit like I was running before I could walk but I wasn’t left feeling unsatisfied at the last page regardless. There are enough twist and turns to set your head spinning at times but this keeps the tense atmosphere at a constant throughout and does keep you turning pages.

Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who reads dark academia, enjoys a fun magic system and who craves mystery and tension in their reads.

Once again, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC and I do look forward to reading deeper into this world and seeing where the book takes us.

This book was haunting and atmospheric, blending dark academia and horror together was such a vibe for me. The author’s world building and characters draws you into the story, their motivations and intentions keep you enthralled to find out more. The inclusion of different spiritual systems was a new element to dark academia. I’m excited to see what this author writes next

For a Dark Academia book, "Trevor" doesn't delve deeply into the academic aspect. The pacing feels rushed, making the progression of time seem almost irrelevant. The story often feels like a series of scenes loosely connected, struggling to form a cohesive narrative.

The character dynamics also contribute to this. Andy's quick trust in Jae, despite his suspicious nature, seems implausible. There's a significant portion of the story where she follows his lead without pushing back much, which can be frustrating and makes her appear lacking in agency.

Despite these issues, the core idea is compelling, and the execution, while not perfect, has its merits. Many readers, especially those who enjoy YA and dark academia vibes, will likely appreciate this book more than I did. It just didn't quite hit the mark for me.

A delectable mixture of horror and dark academia and most definitely for fans of Ninth House and Book of Night.

I loved the atmosphere in this book, it was dark and felt a bit misty which made it so you couldn't see what was happening throughout the plot. I love demons, spooky schools and cultish murder plots so this was right up my street. There was so much of this book to like but I just think it falls flat in consideration to the rest of the dark academia sphere. Maybe it read slightly too young for me which made it more difficult to enjoy fully.

This does not mean that it is a bad book in any stance, it's just not standing up in the genre when there are books like If We Were Villains and Babel on the scene. But with this being marketed as YA, I think it reads perfectly for that age group and will be a good introduction to the genre without being too much all at once.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for granting me the joy of reading this ARC. All opinions are my own.
