This was my first book by Claire Douglas. I liked the storytelling even though the story seemed a little far fetched (I hope so anyway!). At the heart of the book is a a family and the story deals with some of their deepest secrets and issues.

There are some very dark themes throughout - a snatched baby, a couple of murders etc but I felt as though the writing was almost lighthearted. It lacked suspense and tension. I would describe it more as a mystery than a thriller. It would be a good holiday book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I've read a couple of books by Claire Douglas and enjoyed them so was keen to read her latest title. It did not disappoint! The Wrong Sister is about a family whose youngest child was abducted as a baby then 30 years later tragedy strikes when an apparent break in goes wrong. It had me absolutely hooked from the start and the twists throughout the book were excellent. The family dynamics are really interesting and I loved the changes in narrator. The writing is 'to the point' and isn't overcomplicated with fluffy dialogue and unnecessary descriptions so it's easy to get absorbed in the story right from the start. I was sad when it ended as I enjoyed it so much! The Wrong Sister book is the best book I've read by this Claire Douglas but they've all been gripping and I'll be looking out for any others.

This was a lot of twisty fun

I had no idea where this was going until the last minute so that was good! It did take a bit of time getting there and I felt the middle slowed it a bit but that's just a quibble

Nowt so queer as folk is there? Not if you take this lot into account.

I’ve read a few of this author’s novels now and she never disappoints, if possible they just get better and better.

Tasha and her husband go off on a romantic break leaving her sister Alice and her husband to look after their twin girls. Not long into their break, tragedy strikes back at home and they have to cut their trip short. Things are definitely not as straight forward as they first appear as the story starts to unfold.

I was constantly changing my mind about the who and why throughout this book. I would have one train of thought only for that to be blown apart as more things come to light. It had me second guessing everyone and then feeling guilty for thinking badly of certain characters. I loved the sisterly bond between the sisters as well as the background of the family which made the story even more intriguing.

With so many red herrings, secrets and lies, The Wrong Sister by Claire Douglas was an unputdownable read that had me frantically turning the pages. The twists are so fantastically done that I could hardly contain the level of excitement it had me feeling. I just never know what to expect with this author’s books which makes the whole reading experience even more thrilling. A heart-pounding read!

An enjoyable, tightly-plotted story, if rather over-long. Clever ending. But ultimately, utterly forgettable!

Tasha and her husband, Aaron, jump at the chance to spend a week at her sister’s apartment in Venice. While they are away her sister, Alice, and her husband have offered not only to house-sit but to look after their twin daughters too. Things take an ominous turn on the second night in Venice when they are almost mugged. A phone call reveals that things back at home is even worse.

Author Claire Douglas has packed The Wrong Sister with so many twists and turns that you really cannot second-guess what is happening. From the ominous opening page indicating that someone is watching and is about to take away everything you’ve taken for granted there is a sense of unease. The description of red hair means you know that the person being watched is either Tasha or her high-flying sister, Alice.

As we meet the sisters and learn a little about their lives I immediately jumped to conclusions. Tasha still lives in the village she grew up in, married her teenage boyfriend and is now the mother of two-year-old twins. Tasha can’t help but be a little bit jealous of her older sister who lives in London, has a high-paying job, a beautiful house and a handsome husband, Kyle. It was Tasha’s slight fixation on Kyle that had me thinking this was going to turn into Tasha trying to get Kyle for herself. How wrong I was.

The main plot line happens quickly, and I’m glad it did because I liked the characters of Tasha and Aaron. The couple came across as real people, struggling to figure out how to rekindle the spark that has been extinguished by the arrival of their children. It’s obvious they still love each other but they’re stuck in a rut, particularly Aaron, and simply too exhausted each day to address the issue. Alice and Kyle are also likeable characters. Arriving in a McLaren sports car it’s obvious they have wealth but they don’t try to show off or look down on Tasha and her family. Despite their vastly different lifestyles the sisters share a close bond.

The near mugging in Venice is just the start of the nightmare for the sisters. During what appears to be an attempted burglary Kyle is killed and Alice is assaulted. Rushing home Tasha then receives an anonymous note saying it should have been her that was attacked. Is this a threat, or a warning?

Absolutely everyone becomes a suspect, you doubt the motivation of even the nicest people. It’s almost as if you are watching over your shoulder as you read, waiting for the next blow to fall. This is made even more complex when we discover that Tasha and Alice had a baby sister who was abducted thirty years ago and never found.

Another murder in the small village has you wondering how all the events are connected, or are some of them simply coincidental. As a new narrator is introduced some of the individual pieces begin to fit together and a picture of what happened begins to take shape, but you are still left with an unsettled feeling that everything isn’t as it seems. Claire Douglas has done a fantastic job weaving all the different plots together, however, I felt unsatisfied by the ambiguous ending.

Wow what a book. This is a dark tale about a family already torn apart by tragedy after their sister was snatched as a child now they are facing the brutal attack and murder on one of the sisters and her husband. This is a really dark tale with a good twist at the end and I couldn’t put it down.,

Tasha and her sister Alice share a close relationship, and when Alice offers her apartment in Venice to Tasha for a much needed break, she and her husband Aaren are delighted to accept. Especially as Alice and her husband Kyle have offered to look after their twin daughters.

What starts out as a lovely chance for Tasha and Aaron to reconnect and spend quality time together, soon turns into a web of sinister happenings and secrets expertly explored by the author.

When an intruder breaks into Tasha’s home resulting in tragic consequences, the couple are forced to return home immediately. Police investigate the crime making you wonder who could be the perpetrator. Chapters are told by different characters, and a strong backstory is explored which adds drama and interest.

This is a compelling thriller with several twists and turns, along with gripping, suspenseful storyline which keeps you turning the pages. I couldn’t put down the book until finding out who was behind the crimes. Totally unexpected thrilling ending.

I loved this book. It was a murder mystery novel that kept me wanting to pick it up and read it until the end.. It wasn't scary, yet it had all the suspense necessary to make a good story. The book starts with two sisters, they are very different but very close, in their relationship.. As the story evolves, it becomes apparent of the complexities of these relationships and that gives a great depth to the book. Tasha really could be the girl next door.
I like the way suspicious characters and events sidetrack you from any conclusions. Even days after reading this book I came back to thinking how clever the author has been to distract me from what really was happening.
I have enjoyed all of Claire Douglas's books and look forward to more.

I enjoyed some aspects of this story, particularly the part in Venice (which had a nice sinister atmosphere), the missing baby subplot and Bonnie's chapters. I didn't really care about any of the characters, though, and I'm not sure why. I think it could be because they were almost completely lacking in humour. They had no spark, no wit, no interesting qualities. Their interactions were all very mundane and predictable.

The writing was quite basic and unsophisticated. Also, every page was riddled with grammatical errors, particularly in punctuation, which constantly took me out of the story. I know this is an uncorrected proof, but even so - a more polished version would have been appreciated.

This wasn't a book I looked forward to picking up. Most readers seem to have enjoyed it, though. Maybe just not my type of thing.

A really enjoyable read that leaves you guessing until the end!

I really liked all the characters, especially Tasha, and I enjoyed how the chapters flitted between the different characters to get their POVs. I felt this added to the suspense and questioning of who was the culprit and why… Douglas’ writing was clever in that I felt suspicious of all characters at some point throughout the book!

I imagine that for some the plot might be stretching quite far, however I do think that’s what fiction writing is for!

I have read a number of books by Claire Douglas but this is not one of her best. It is very easy to read, lots of twists in the plot to keep you guessing.
Thank you to NetGalley and Michael Joseph and Penguin Random House for the advance copy of this book.

Thank you for letting me read this book in advance of its release. I really enjoyed this book from the start, a real page turner. However, I was able to predict the outcome but still enjoyed the read.

This was fantastic and kept me gripped all the way through. I had a feeling of what had happened but couldn’t quite work out the how of it all so that was a good twist. I think this may be the favourite of Claire Douglas’ books that I’ve read. Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a crime story. The crime is committed in the middle of an apparently normal family going through some difficulties from the past and in the present. Suddenly the couple receive notification of a crime in their house while they are away.
The outcome is shocking and the reader is then taken along with the investigation. The writing makes readers realise that something is not as it appears and a twist is revealed at the very end.
I enjoyed the read and read it quickly over just a couple of days.

Thank you for the eARC, NetGalley & Penguin Random House!
Torn between 3 and 4 stars - 4 stars for enjoyment, 3 for writing and plot, 3.5 overall.,

I love a good mystery, and this one was quite gripping. There were a lot of hints and clues, a lot of red herrings - I got some things right, and didn't pick up at all on others.

The writing flowed well, except when the characters were reminiscing about something that happened in their past. For some reason, that felt a bit off to me, but it might just be my general impression of narration in past perfect.

Also personal preference, but if a book has multiple p.o.v.s, it works better for me when the narration is in the same person.

I enjoyed all the p.o.v.s, though, and the characters felt very real to me.

My one complaint in terms of plot is that there were just too many things happening in the same family.

Another outstanding thriller from Claire Douglas.
The Wrong Sister is told from three different points of view which flow seamlessly throughout the book and add to the gripping tension. The author throws in several red herrings to keep us guessing before hitting us with the inevitable twist at the end.
Great complex characters, cleverly written and a real page turner.
I am grateful to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC of this book and am leaving my honest review voluntarily.

Tasha’s older sister,, Alice - a dynamic and well-known scientist - offers to look after Tasha and Aaron’s young twin daughters so that they can take a much needed break, and suggests that they stay at the luxury apartment in Venice that she and her husband own. Alice and Kyle duly move in and enjoy making a fuss of the girls .but tragedy soon strikes.

Tasha and Aaron’s short stay in Venice turns out to be far from smooth when they end up being pursued by a knife-wielding stranger who utters a strange threat to them.. They are soon recalled home when told that Kyle has been murdered during a break-in, and Alice is in hospital having suffered a nasty injury.. Janette, Alice and Tasha’s mother, soon also arrives from her home in France and the mystery deepens when Tasha reveals that she has received a threatening message saying “it should have been you”.

With mother reunited with her two daughters conversations naturally turn to another mystery from 30 years ago - the abduction of Jeanette’s youngest daughter, Holly, when only a few weeks old…………

Claire Douglas keeps the reader in suspense to the very end of the book - unexpected surprises are in store.! This is a truly gripping read with a most unexpected outcome.

Tasha and Aaron are parents to toddler twin girls. When Tasha's sister Alice offers the frazzled parents use of the apartment she and husband Kyle own in Venice, the pair jump at the chance. However, tragedy strikes when Alice and Kyle are attacked in Tasha and Aaron's home - who committed the crime, and who were the intended victims?

A book packed full of twists and turns, with multiple side storylines, and a drip feed of information to keep the reader guessing. I really enjoyed it, and couldn't put it down - even though I figured out the answer to a number of the questions the book posed, it was interesting to watch the characters reach the same conclusions. A good quick read thriller, my first by this author, but it won't be my last.

A story of 3 sisters, Tasha, Alice and Holly, who was snatched from her pram when she was a baby.
Alice and her husband Kyle come to stay and look after Tasha and Aaron’s twin daughters whilst they go to Italy for a few days. However, Kyle is murdered and Alice is injured during the night.
On Aaron and Tasha’s return a note is posted through the letterbox telling Tasha it was supposed to be her.
An easy read with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing - some I solved and some I didn’t!
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
