This book is a must-read for anyone navigating the challenges of mental illness. In her previous book, Wrestling With My Thoughts, Sharon openly shared her battle with mental health. Tending To My Thoughts serves as a follow-up, offering an even deeper glimpse into her journey with schizoaffective disorder. Not only does she recount her personal experiences, but she also explores the holistic approaches that have aided her recovery. Sharon thoughtfully details the various modalities she incorporates—medication, medical care, mindfulness, yoga, relationships, and, most importantly, her faith in Jesus. It's refreshing to read a book that embraces mental health treatment from physical, mental, and spiritual perspectives.
Sharon’s authenticity makes her incredibly relatable. She is upfront about her struggles, acknowledging that recovery isn’t a linear path. I especially appreciated how she seamlessly wove her Christian faith into the narrative. Finishing this book felt like saying goodbye to a dear friend. I sincerely hope to hear more from Sharon in the future—thank you for this inspiring read!

A doctor's perspective on personal mental illness and theological reflection. It should become standard reading in this field. Recommended.

An emotional, poignant yet beautiful book that provided me with a lot of hope. I’ve always liked to read books from doctors points of view because they provide an additional layer of knowledge as well as the personal side of things. That coupled with the theological elements gave an extra perspective as well. It also gave me hope - yes, she still has mental illness but it doesn’t define her or rule her everyday life and that’s exactly the kind of message I, and so many others, need. It’s a book to share with others struggling with their mental health, churches, family and friends for sure!

I received a free copy of, Tending To My Thoughts by Sharon Hastings, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Sharon has mental illness, a taboo subject for many people. Sharon is very honest about her struggles, and how she lives with a mental illness. This was a good read, very interesting.
