Fans of Freida McFadden will love this thriller. How far would you go to protect your child from a bully? Especially one who has previously been the reason and girl unalived herself. The twist at the end got me, I never saw that coming. Enjoyable read
I’ve become a huge fan of Daniel Hurst’s books recently. They are fast-paced thrillers, but always very unique and with an interesting twist. This latest one is no exception.
I was pulled in to the story right from the prologue. Then the main part of the story commences, and while it’s clear from the early narrative that Jacob is going through a terrible time, it’s hard to imagine how it will end up. The chapters alternate between Sara and Guy’s points of view, and I liked both of them as characters. They are both so worried about their son and would clearly go to great lengths to protect him.
It’s a chilling and dark book, and it’s impossible not to be completely engrossed in it, as events spiral deeper and deeper. The pace is fast and the plot is super twisty and complex.
A really gripping read that is also emotive and thought-provoking, this is one to set time aside for as you won’t want to put it down once you start reading it. Explosive stuff.
TW: Self-harm, unaliving, bullying, kidnapping
In true Daniel Hurst fashion, this book has a nice even pace that’ll keep you interested from start to finish.
This one asks…how far would you go for revenge, for your family, for a friend….for justice?
I really liked how everything came together at the end.
I definitely recommend this one. Love all of his books.
The Couple’s Revenge by Daniel Hurst is a solid read that explores the devastating effects of childhood bullying and the lengths parents will go to protect their children. The story revolves around Sara and Guy, an average couple whose son, Jacob, becomes the target of a particularly nasty bully—one responsible for another child's tragic suicide. The stakes are high from the start, and it’s easy to sympathize with Jacob as he tries to survive the daily torment of school life.
While Sara and Guy's initial actions to stand up for their son are relatable and even admirable, their passion to solve Jacob’s problem quickly spirals into very dark territory—one from which there’s no return. Watching this seemingly normal couple descend into extreme measures was gripping, though at times, their actions felt a bit unbelievable.
The twist at the end added an extra layer of intrigue and helped elevate the story. While the overall book didn’t stand out as exceptional, it was a good, thought-provoking read with well-developed themes and a suspenseful tone. If you enjoy family dramas with a dark twist, this one is worth checking out.
Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture & Daniel Hurst for this arc!
It was a short, quick decent thriller, but I hated that I guessed who it was way beforehand.
The love a family shares is indescribable.
Thank you, Mr Hurst and Netgalley, for the ARC. Yes, I am behind, but I was pleased to get the opportunity to read this one and leave my honest opinion.
Not what I was expecting at all! Great read from beginning to end. I was chilled at times. Thanks so much!
I would describe this as a slow burn with a bit of a twist not a face passed shocking story which many can prefer
The storyline is relatable to parents so thats a plus as it makes it morr beieveble.
Thank you Bookoutre and Netgalley for an unputdownable book.
A truely great read and a great couple’s revenge type of book
Definitely recommend.
Daniel writes a good book!!!!
What a great read!!! I thought it would be a cookie cutter couple’s revenge type of book, but it was truly a surprising read, had such a hard time putting it down!!!
This was another good psychological thriller from Daniel Hurst. Sara and Guy have two children, an Amber and Jacob. Amber has just started university so there is only teenage Jacob left living at home. Sara sees a change in Jacob and begins to worry about him, Sara and Guy soon realise that Jacob is being bullied by a boy called Mason. He has been expelled from one school and has decided to pick on Jacob and make his life a misery. Guy takes things into his own hands and confronts his father which has terrible repercussions. The pain of bullying would resonate with most readers but would we go to such lengths to solve it. Quite a gripping read, a little unbelievable at time and the twist at the end I had worked out. All in all though a good read.
Thanks to a Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book,
Another grear read from Daniel Hurst! I’ve read many of his books and was super excited to get my hands on the couples revenge.
When Jacob comes home from school one afternoon and shuts himself away in his bedroom his mother Sara knows straight away that something is wrong with her boy. After trying to get to the bottom of things with her son but having little luck she confides in her husband Guy.
Eventually Guy gets a reluctant Jacob to open up after seeing some bruising on his son whilst they attend a football match. It soon becomes clear Jacob is being bullied by a serial bully. The same bully who is responsible for a young girl taking her own life after making her life a living hell.
Guy takes matters into his own hands and is convinced he has put Mason off bullying his son. A few weeks later Jacob comes home from the park having been badly beaten up. At this point Guy and Sara decide to take revenge on Mason by taking matters into their own hands and ensuring he can never hurt their son or anyone else ever again.
At the start I found the couples revenge quite predictable and very straight forward however as the book goes on their is a huge twist thrown into the mix throwing up lots of questions not only for the readers but for Sara and Guy. It was very cleverly twisted in which is one of the things that keeps drawing me back to Daniel Hursts books.
Thank you to NetGalley the publisher and the author for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for this review.
The ending was surprising.
I had to put some disbelief aside to take it all in. It fitted the narrative however.
Overall an enjoyable read about a serious subject.
A suspenseful and engaging thriller that highlights the impacts of bullying and its devastating impacts on its victims and family members. This is a topic that should be written about more because it is such a pervasive issue in our world. I found this novel to be very interesting and fast-paced. I did struggle to get behind the revenge plot because I felt it did not make sense at some parts, but overall it was a fun and quick read!
In "A Couple's Revenge," Daniel Hurst crafts a compelling narrative of Guy and Sara, determined parents facing their worst nightmare when their son becomes a victim of bullying. Hurst skillfully portrays the palpable fear and urgency of parental protection, drawing readers into the family's escalating crisis. The plot twists keep the tension high as Guy's choices lead to gripping predicaments, driving the narrative towards a surprising yet fitting conclusion. Despite some repetitive phrases, Hurst's storytelling prowess shines through, making this thriller a captivating exploration of familial love and retribution.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book. This was a very easy and enjoyable thriller to read. The story focuses on bullying of a child and the extremes one family will go to protect them. The characters were well done and the story suspenseful.
This author never disappoints and this story is living proof of that. A very interesting story about how far parents are willing to go when their child is a victim of bullying. I really liked it, it's very well written, like everything else I've read by this author
I could not put this book down! If you like suspense, you will love Daniel Hurst's books, and this one is no exception!! I was on the edge of my seat with every page! Highly recommend!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for a chance to read and review this ARC.
A mother's protective instincts go into overdrive when she discovers that her teenage son is being bullied. As all of the usual avenues seem to fail, the family considers more extreme measures to protect their child. There is a theme of revenge and that brings out some interesting moral questions to consider. How are would you go for your child?
This book was more of a slow burn with a bit of a twist. It was nothing like the “nail-biting story with a shocking twist” that it is advertised as though. The storyline was good for the most part and I could relate as a parent, but it didn't fully "get there" for me in the end. I didn’t really feel any connection to any of the characters, and I wasn’t invested in the book like I was hoping for. Overall, if you are in the mood for an 'easy read' thriller or new to thrillers, then I recommend this one!
The book was good but not the best by the author. The plot and turns were very predictable., except one at the end.
how far would you go to protect your child?
Daniel Hurst writes a gripping novel that will have you on the edge of your seat. Highly recommend
