I've been with this series since the very first book, and it has quickly turned into one of my absolute favorite detective thriller series. I always look forward to meet up with Josie Quinn and the rest of the team again, and I've been curious to see where book number nineteen would take us. I have to point out that Face Her Fear is completely different than the previous installments, and more locked room than detective thriller. This change makes sense with what happened to the main character though... Plus, I have a weak spot for locked room mysteries, remote settings and a good bout of bad weather to seal the deal, so I was one happy camper with this new direction the series took. Without doubt another winner!
Like I said, Face Her Fear takes a completely different direction than the rest of the series, and there is no official police investigation nor is the rest of the team as present. Book number nineteen is mainly about Josie Quinn and her trying to come to terms with past events while at a trauma retreat. There will be spoilers for previous sequels, so you've been warned! This series in general focuses a lot on the personal development of the cast in the first place, so I strongly advice reading them in order to avoid both said spoilers and missing out on character background and development along the way.
Those who follow this series will probably understand that I'm still not over the death of certain character either, so it was interesting to see Josie dealing with her trauma in her way. The trauma retreat made for an interesting setting, especially with the remote Pennsylvanian mountain cabin setting and the bout of bad weather causing the small group to be trapped on the mountain. Nothing like a blizzard to create what is basically a locked room mystery! The weather played an integral role in the plot, and it created the perfect ominous atmosphere.
Main character Josie Quinn isn't in an official capacity when things start to go south, but she still tries to do her best without much help from the outside... The good old blizzard cutting them off from the rest of the world and all. It's only a small group of virtual strangers attending the retreat, and every single one seems to have something to hide. This adds plenty of suspense and intrigue, and plenty of possibilities for plot twists and tense moments. This isn't the only POV though, as we also follow Josie's husband Noah as he tries to get to Josie during the storm. Both POVs have some very intense scenes and escalations that have become typical of this series!
I don't want to give away too much of the plot, because that will take the fun out of trying to solve the locked room mystery... This is one of those stories where it's best to go in blind (albeit with the knowledge of the previous sequels under your belt). Face Her Fear ended up being SO different from the previous books, but it still packed a punch and I loved my time with this story. There were without doubt a couple twists I never saw coming! The ending left me curious; I do hope the new detective won't be too insufferable...

I have enjoyed the Josie Quinn series and look forward to seeing what happens next. This one was a bit different from the previous books as it was mainly about her and not the usual police procedural which was refreshing. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

This was an interesting installment in the Josie Quinn series - Josie is quite "on her own" in this one, and the seclusion and the who-done-it made for a really engaging and fast-paced story. I continue to enjoy how Lisa Regan writes Josie - she really is a multidimensional character, who has a lot of self-reflection and growth as the series continues. I liked the parallel of Josie needing to figure out if she can trust her own instincts, and trust others. I was pleased how everything ultimately wraps up, while also leaving be waiting happily for the next book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.

I loved this book as much as I did the last 18. Josie Quinn is on of my favorite book characters.
It is always an edge of you seat read with Josie. You just never know what’s next.

I absolutely loved this book! Yes it’s different from the usual police procedurals but I think the author had a reason for writing this plot as she did. I think it was to let us get to know Josie better!
Josie is at a retreat for victims of trauma - she had a horrific childhood and also has recently lost her grandmother and a beloved team member, Mettner.
In this novel we learn even more about her childhood trauma and also a new disappointment that she and Noah have just found out about.
This novel was a bit slower to take off, but the characters all had to be introduced and we need to know at least a little about each of them. There is also the team retreat leader, Sandrine, who has secrets of her own.
I continue to be a fan of each book Ms. Regan has written. I really enjoyed getting to know Josie more in this novel where she had to “Face Her Fear” on many occasions during the story.
When a member of the group is found murdered - the story really takes off. Yes there is a snowstorm which was a little predictable. However the fact that Josie was stranded on top of this mountain with no help in sight, made her trust her instincts and decide who she could trust.
A great addition to the series. I bumped this up to a 5 because of how much I enjoyed it. Lisa’s writing is always stellar and this one was special.
I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley. It was my pleasure to read and review this title.
This installment is set to publish on January 30, 2024.

This book was a slow at the beginning of the story. But half way it was so exciting! I love Lisa Organs book, have read quite a few of them
Great job Lisa. It was very interesting to see how you can weave this story. It had alot of twists and turns that I never saw coming.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I think this might be one of the most twisty-turny books I’ve read in ages. I absolutely love how we see the love and dedication of Josie and Noah along with her team. When a trauma retreat turns into a trauma, you can count on Josie to be in the middle of it. Loved the ending. A must read for romantic suspense lovers.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own." eARC provided NetGalley

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of Face Her Fear by Lisa Regan
I can’t believe this is the 19th book in the Detective Josie Quinn Series.
It’s been a great journey with the characters. This time the setting is different, Josie heads for a retreat, high up in the mountains.
Already devastated by the loss of one of her colleagues, Josie and Noah receive some heartbreaking news and Josie gets away from everything to think and repair herself.
She doesn’t expect to be wrapped up in a murder case, or for a storm to come in that cuts her, the rest of the guests and the murderer off from the outside world. Struggling to contact Noah or the rest of the team, Josie must use all her skills to stay alive.
Loved it.

The latest Josie Quinn mystery finds Josie at a remote retreat to deal with PTSD. Things seem dire when a blizzard rolls in, but get worse when one of the retreat participants ends up murdered. Now Josie is trapped on a mountain with a murderer and no clear way to get help.
This was a change of pace in terms of setting and style for the Josie Quinn mysteries! Normally, we have the other detectives and get more traditional detective investigating. I liked that Regan went a different direction and that we also got some misdirection with the Noah-Cooper storyline. Can’t wait to see where Josie goes next!
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

It's rare to find a series that is as fresh at book 19 as it was in book 1, but Lisa Regan has achieved just that. She created new characters that were interesting and blended them with the main cast of characters with absolute perfection. This book is definitely a winner.

This is book #19 in the Detective Josie Quinn series. Whilst it is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone book. Josie has taken herself off to a retreat to try and deal with the trauma she has found herself facing. It's out in the mountains of Pennsylvania, miles from anywhere and anyone, but things take a sinister turn when the weather turns, the snow comes in and Josie and the other people on the retreat find themselves trapped. with food and heat in short supplies!
I absolutely loved this book! It felt completely different to the other books in the series. Josie was obviously struggling and suffering, but when a body is found, she finds herself having to unofficially investigate a murder whilst keeping her own sanity and those around her. I liked the way the storyline focussed almost entirely on Josie without seeing too much of her colleagues who are usually around to help her out and it threw her right in to the middle of the mystery rather than just investigating it! It showed that she was such a strong character to deal with everything herself and I loved how she kept her head whilst trying to prevent anyone else from being killed.
The storyline flowed along well, fast paced with plenty of mystery and suspense. There weren't a lot of suspects as it's only the people who were on the retreat with Josie, but you are certainly left wondering throughout who could you trust and who was telling the truth. Everyone seemed to hiding something, which made it really difficult to work out who was involved, and I found myself suspecting everyone at some point! I was absolutely hooked into Josie's story very early on and couldn't put the book down until I'd finished it! Can't wait for the next instalment in Josie's story! Would definitely recommend!

Face her fear was a whirlwind story from start to finish. It was captivating with so many twists and turns. Lisa Regan’s books have a way of sucking you into the story and they won’t let you go until the very end. You will not be disappointed to read this book.

I love this Josie Quinn series and even though it’s book 19 in the series it is as brilliant as the previous books albeit in a slightly different way with Josie and husband Noah not investigating together as Josie is at a retreat. Plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader hooked make for a great storyline. I highly recommend this book/series and author.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC Face Her Fear. I have read all the of Josie Quinn books in 2023, this is the 19th book in the series. I enjoyed reading the book but it seems like a very different story for Josie. I am interested to see where Lisa Regan is going to take this story line.

Who do you trust when the resort you go to for a week to get help from your trauma has a murder? Then another person from the group goes missing. And oh, yes, its' in the middle of a blizzard and they are in remote Pennsylvania. Josie has so much going against her as she struggles to figure out who is murdering the other guests and why. Cell coverage is iffy at best on the mountain and they were suppose to leave them in their cars at the bottom of the mountain.. Good thing Josie didn't listen, although it's still dicey to get information out and help into the camp. The caretaker leaves before the storm hits and doesn't make it back. Is he another victim, the culprit, or just stuck in town because of the blizzard? Then one of the couples accuse Sandrine, the therapist, of not being who she claims to be. What secrets is she hiding? Just who can Josie trust when it seems like everyone has secrets, but which are ones that people are willing to kill over? Beware that once you start reading, you will not be able to put it down. The story is riveting as each clue is revealed, it becomes that much tougher to stop reading. Highly recommend.

This book - the 19th in the series - is a bit of a departure from the usual case-solving procedural featuring Denton Police Department Detective Josie Quinn. Here, she's more than a little bit out of her usual element, taking part in a trauma recovery program at an isolated Pennsylvania retreat after losing a dear friend and colleague and having a meltdown of sorts that involves her husband Noah.
There are six participants in all - five women and one man - led by a Zen-like therapist named Sandrine, who organized the retreat and loves helping everyone get in touch with their feelings. Everyone there is a victim of some kind of trauma, which they're invited to share either in group sessions or with Sandrine privately. To spook things up a bit, no cell phones, laptops or other communication devices are allowed, nor is Josie allowed to bring a weapon - she's not there as an officer of the law, and besides, she's no longer within her jurisdiction. Amid all that, a huge snowstorm appears out of nowhere (with all of today's technology, I must say I found it implausible that any meterorologist worth his or her salt could possibly have missed a storm of that magnitude, but hey).
In really short order, everyone becomes snowbound and virtually unreachable on a mountaintop with enough food, burnable wood and generator-produced electricity to last the week - if they're prudent. By now, you know what's coming next: one of the participants, a woman named Meg, is found dead in the woods; and although Josie knows Meg was murdered, she has no authority to investigate - and worse, no way of contacting anyone in the outside world.
From that point on, Josie tries to put her crime-solving skills to work while knowing there's little she can do even if she does identify the killer - one who almost certainly is among them. Problem is - at least for me - she just can't seem to get her own act together; much of her time is spent amid self-doubt and unfounded speculation. While I understand her personal conflicts and the reasons she's at the retreat in the first place (well, except for her knee-jerk interaction with Noah, which I honestly couldn't relate to at all), that constant second-guessing didn't grab me much. Happily, enough facts and hard evidence were interspersed to keep things interesting and hold my attention throughout (to that end, another of the retreat participants turning up missing and Josie's revelation that cameras have been hidden throughout the buildings certainly helped).
By the finish line, everything gets resolved, and although it's no secret to series followers that Josie will live to see another installment, exactly how it all comes together is for me to know and other readers to find out (yes, there are a few surprises). All in all, an entertaining read once again - for which I thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for the pre-release copy.

Still struggling to get past the murder of a trusted colleague (along with all the other grief and trauma she's experienced), Detective Josie Quinn take's her therapist's advice and goes on a retreat for those suffering with PTSD.. At a secluded mountain retreat center, she is joined by others who want to find ways to cope with the terrible events they have experienced, but is everyone who they say they are? When one member of the group is found murdered in the snow, Josie must switch into detective mode to find the killer. With a murderer on the loose and a blizzard cutting the group off from civilization, the suspense builds. Will anyone else die? Will the remaining members freeze or starve to death? It's a great adventure!

Face her Fear is for me, the best in the Josie Quinn series! wow! what a great suspense! I loved the fact that everything happens in a closed space and that Josie and her husband are for once not able to investigate together. The twists and turns were really unexpected and I loved every minute! I can only recommend to go and get this book, you won't regret it!

Detective Josie Quinn goes to Sacred New Beginnings Retreat for some much needed healing in a time of emotional crisis. Instead of emotional healing she’s right in the middle of the other retreaters drama and a snowstorm traps her there. She finds a dead body in the woods and chaos arises. This was an excellent read that quickly sucked me in. Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC that will be released January 30, 2024!

I was so looking forward to reading this installment of the JQ series and I was not disappointed even though it was a huge departure from what we have come to expect from Josie Quinn! Less police procedural and more "who dunnit". I loved seeing the relationship between Josie and Noah be "real"...not the fantasy that most books make relationships out to be. Little spoiler though....why would Cooper need to leave the mountain to check on the weather when they had a satellite phone? That kind of irked me, lol, but overall a very minor slip in the main story. Would have like to find out a little bit more about the new team member because tbh I have already forgotten his name. Seeing Josie finally starting to realize that she needs help working through the massive amount of tragedy that she has experienced in her life was awesome.
If you have been a fan of this series from the start like I am you will not be disappointed in this book at all.
Thank you to Netgally and Lisa Regan for allowing me to review this book.
