Herbal Remedies for Sleep is another stellar book from Storey Publishing. As is common from this publisher and their team of fantastic authors, the first chapters give the reader a wealth of background information. Maria Noel Groves covers sleep, specifically why it is important and how to support quality sleep habits. She also delves into the stress and how it affects our sleep. Once the reader has a better understanding of sleep goals and healthy habits, Groves begins the work of teaching how to use herbs to achieve better sleep. Though, she doesn't stop at just naming the herbs and giving a few recipes. Groves also teaches preparation methods for these herbal remedies. She does a wonderful job of giving the very basic knowledge in a small space. The reader and casual aspiring herbalist can handle these methods with Groves' instruction. Finally, Groves leaves the reader with safety and quality information regarding herbs, so that navigating the purchasing or gathering of these herbs is a little less stressful.

I appreciate the quality of the book overall, as well. The text is easy to comprehend and the layout and photography is pleasant. This is, again, exactly what I've come to expect from Storey Publishing and an herbalist with Maria Noel Groves' wisdom.

My sincere thanks to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the digital ARC copy of Herbal Remedies for Sleep, in exchange for my honest review.

Very informative book on best practices for sleep. I was very impressed with the wide range of herbs listed along with details on when you should take them, what you can or shouldn’t take them with, etc. Just the right amount of information on the how and why the body reacts to stress, hormones, etc. Delving into areas of health such as yoga, recipes, gardening and much more.

This book is for anyone interested in natural healthy living.

Thank you Maria Noel Groves and Storey publishing for the advance copy for review consideration. I will be purchasing a copy for my reference shelf for sure!

I picked this book thinking I am just going to skim through it as I probably know most of the stuff already. I was pleasantly surprised to learn some new things and get some good advice, even as a student herbalist who has researched sleep and sleep herbs before.

The best new thing I learned and am eager to try is the car method of drying herbs. If this works, Im gonna save a lot of space and time!

The book was was written with people without extensive herbal knowledge in mind and I think it did a great job of making presenting the various topics of treating sleep problems easy to understand. I appreciated how the author also advocated to grow and make our own remedies. I found instructions for making remedies simple and easy to follow, if a bit simplistic.

This was one of the few things I disagreed a bit with the author - the chapter on tincture making was quite simplified but on the other side I can understand the need for simple instructions in this kind of book, and they do work in the majority of tincture making.

This is a good book on self-help herbal aid for sleep problems that I would recommend to anyone experiencing sleep issues.

Great Book on Dealing with Herbal Sleep Remedies

The author states that sleep is a foundational aspect of our health and wellbeing, because during a good night’s sleep, our body has the chance to relax muscles, repair damage, detoxify, fortify your immune system, balance out hormones and neurotransmitters, and restore itself. She, further, states that getting adequate good quality sleep is free, enjoyable, and one of the best things we can do to support our health.

She explains how sleep works, and the role melatonin and cortisol play. Such as, the hormones melatonin and cortisol regulate our sleep. She states that melatonin encourages various activities associated with rest, repair, and sedation, as well as immune function, down regulating inflammation, and more, and on the otherhand, cortisol regulates our wake cycles and is also essential for survival and kicks in when the body thinks that safety is being jeopardized.

The author discusses numerous tips to support sleep wake cycles and core habits for better sleep.

She discusses many natural herbs, how to grow and harvest them, and provides various tea recipes other beverages that are beneficial in getting a great night's sleep. In addition to the above-mentioned suggestions, the author discusses several nighttime rituals that may be beneficial in aiding one's getting a better night's sleep and rest state.

This is a great book for anyone suffering from sleep apnea or any other form of sleep deprivation issues. I highly recommend this book.

I think this book is filled with lots of useful information and it's not written by a delusional author that states the herbs will solve all your problems, instead going to a doctor if needed is actually advised.

The way the information is presented helps you understand how, when and why to use some herbs, because it also talks about the sleep cycles and what can affect them

As someone who struggles with nervous system regulation and sleep issues, this is a great resource for remedies. As a relatively new herbalist, I really enjoyed the scientific approach and practical applications and advice. This will be a staple in my resource collection for herbal remedies and natural healing.

A beautifully written book with really useful information, looking at sleep from different angles. As we know sleep is so important for both our mental and physical health, so having a well thoughtout book like this is essential, as the author doesn't dismiss the need for seeking out professional help.

There is plenty of guidance to help you put things in place and best easy to access herbs to help you sleep. IT's a great starting point for everyone to understand why sleep is important and their own sleep patterns, along with when they may need additional help

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Herbal Remedies for Sleep by Maria Noel Groves is a fabulously detailed book on the importance of sleep and how to use the natural world, meaning flowers and herbs, to help you get the best sleep possible. The amount of information packed into a relatively short book is impressive. I truly appreciated the 'how sleep works' section at the beginning, because for once someone has made it easy to understand for those of us who aren't scientists. This same writing style then flows into the 'meat' of the book, which is information on all the plant allies that exist to support healthy habits and quality sleep - what they are, what they look like (with beautiful photos), the ways you could grow and harvest some yourself, and of course, how to use them and tons of recipes. I don't have much of a green thumb or superior kitchen skills and even I felt like I can confidently use this information in my own home. And if I had any doubt, the author does include plenty of resources in the back for sourcing the ingredients elsewhere.

In a world where stress and anxiety seem to be the norm, finding natural ways to drift off into dreamland is a breath of fresh air. Groves introduces us to a treasure trove of 15 herbs that promise to calm the mind and encourage a peaceful night's sleep. This was an extremely informative and detailed book on herbs and flowers to help one sleep. It gets into the science behind how our bodies interact with herbs, but does so in an easy to understand fashion. I found it very helpful to get a necessary information, such as: where things grow, effects at certain doses, and potential side effects. The pictures and little designs on the pages are beautiful, as well. Highly recommend and I will be purchasing for my library!
