I've watched the anime and reading the manga is definitely a great experience. Natsu's character is funny and goofy but has a dark side to him. Definitely one of those "Touch her and die" MMC. Lucy is not my fave FMC but Erza is one too look out for.
Fairy Tail is a classic Shonen. It has all the elements you like of similar titles like Naruto and Once Piece. If you ever read Rave Master, you'll know Mashima's work. Look, why are you reading a review? It's a manga, just read the first volume. Do you like action stories where characters get stronger and stronger as the story goes on? Then this is for you. Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for letting me read this bindup of the first 3 volumes.

Fairy Tail is a very fun manga to read. If you are looking for a compelling story with a lighthearted exterior. If you are looking for something that will lift your spirits at times, but has a lot of heart and soul, I recommend this series as a whole. I understand that anime is not for everyone, but I think this story can connect to a lot of people. I understand that there is a flying and talking cat in this book, but don’t let that stop you from seeing some of the darker sides of this tale even within the first couple of volumes.
Overall this story follows Lucy who is trying to get into the Fairy Tale guild which is a collection of wizards that are almost infamous, but they are pretty powerful wizards. Lucy also is a celestial wizard in which she is able to summon different spirits in order to fight and participate in magic. She runs into Happy and Natsu by accident while they are trying to find the dragon that raised Natsu. Lucy gets captured by a slave ship, assists Natsu who is a fire wizard to defeat the bad guys and then Lucy is swept into the Fairy Tale guild!
Like most manga, this is a very fast paced story, and there is a lot that happens within one volume. With the omnibus you are able to really see the different sides fo Fairy Tail to see if it something that you enjoy. I personally enjoy that there are some zany parts along side the serious ones, and I just generally enjoy this story as a whole.
The characters are complex, and much more then their fun exterior, and everyone has a time to shine in different places. If you are looking for something that will lift your spirits and don’t mind going with a flow of the story, I highly recommend this!
A unique and enjoyable visual collection, well worth the visit for readers who are new and who are established with this form.
I enjoyed this, but couldn't help comparing it to other manga in the same genre that I've read previously. It has a very similar beginning to a lot of other popular action manga, but for me it just wasn't quite as enticing. I still enjoyed it and I'll probably continue reading the series at least for a bit, but after everything I've heard about this series and with how popular it is, I was expecting something a bit more... special, I guess? Overall though, definitely entertaining.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is Volume 1 and a preview of Volume 2 so not an omnibus of Volume 1-3.
This is my first time reading Fairy Tail. It’s almost like reading a boy teenager’s wet dream haha. Half naked girls, girls drinking whole kegs of beer, fuck all the rules and let’s fight all the time and do what we want, act all idiotic and reckless and crazy and have the most amazing supernatural powers oh and add lots of giant monsters to the mix. But it was fun to read for me too, but only once is honestly enough xd.
Lucy is a 17 year old wizard who wants to be part of the wizard guild called Fairy Tale. When a creepy mostly fake and up to no good wizard lures her onto his boat with the promise to get her into that guild, he almost drugs her and wants to make a slave of her.
Natsu who’s a young wizard with motion sickness, and his cat Happy who can talk and fly (for a while xd) come to her rescue and as they really are part of Fairy Tail, they take her there and after a big fight for no reason between everyone there, she just becomes a member. The wizard council is not happy with Fairy Tail, because there’s so much damage whenever they do anything, but they don’t care.
Lucy decides to go with Natsu and Happy, without them knowing, to save a missing Fairy Tail wizard. We see Lucy using her incredibly fascinating Celestial powers again but it kinda goes wrong and it doesn’t. Lots of recklessness haha and even a pervert cow happen, yes you read that right.
When Lucy finds a place to stay, Natsu and Happy show up uninvited and she shares the making of a new celestial contract with them and something unexpectedly super cute happens! No giant monsters for once xd.
After that, Natsu tricks Lucy into agreeing on something and we see the start of a new intriguing mission and a cute story with Happy and some evil flying fish.
Like I said, glad I read it once but this is more a boy thing in my opinion.
Really enjoyed this one.
Loved the art work.
I also love the front cover to this.
Managed to buy this for myself.
I wasn't able to finish this arc before it was archived but reading halfway through volume one made me want to pick up manga again. I will be buying this manga when I am able.
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
Thank you to Kodansha Comics and NetGalley for the digital ARC!
I had read quite a few Fairy Tail volumes before receiving this ARC, so I'm very familiar with this manga and love it. I was very excited to learn that there were going to be 3-in-1 omnibus editions of Fairy Tail being released, as the same thing was done for other manga like One Piece and Naruto to make collecting the volumes more affordable.
Unfortunately, this ARC was only for the first Fairy Tail volume instead of the actual omnibus of the first three volumes, so I can't really judge what the omnibus edition is like. If it's like some of the other omnibuses for outlet manga I've read, then there probably won't be anything new added, but I can't say for sure.
Despite this, I am looking forward to these new 3-in-1 volumes. I have a soft spot for Fairy Tail and this will make it less expensive to start collecting the physical volumes.
I had watched the anime many years ago and really enjoyed it, but I had never actually read the manga before. From my memory, the anime matches up really well with the first volume of the manga (I don’t think they skipped any scenes and the scenes were really similar). It was really nice to revisit the story now in the manga form. I’m excited to continue reading the rest of the series (I’m sure at some point there will be extra scenes that didn’t make it into the anime so that’ll be nice to see). Overall, it’s a cute story about magic and friends. I especially love Lucy’s magic, it’s so interesting and I haven’t read other works with similar magic type before, so it’s a fresh take on things for me. Also gotta love the adorable Happy.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers, and the author/artist for the ARC I read.
Not as fairy tale inspired as I had expected. It does a good job of creating it's own world, though, building characters that aren't overly reliant on familiar patterns. And the world is complex enough to allow plenty of opportunity for unique storylines.
This was amazing and I just loved Fairy Tail. It became one of my favorite manga series to read! I am definitely reading the entire series when I get the chance.
Fun and madcap but a little too self-consciously random for my tastes. And what's with the creepy way all the women's eyes were drawn?
Fairy Tail is a fun read with many action und weird characters. If you are a fan of naruto and co than you could like it, too.
i just think it is not so intense like naruto or one piece.
A bit disappointed as this only included volume 1 and not 1-3. I had previously read volume 1 and it's pretty enjoyable with fun art throughout!
This is such a cute manga, if anyone hasnt read it and is thinking about it this is your sign! I love the art and the characters are so wacky
This one was fantastic starting of the great journey which we all aware of.
The art and story line was FLAWLESS as ever when it comes to manga.
It's just a beginning so there is not many characters right now, just the main three characters.
Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for my honest review.
This feels like talking to old friend i haven't seen a while.
So i read watched fairy Tail around 10 years ago i also have played ag ame so i'm more or less familiar with characters even through it's been awhile.
i forgotten allot about early volume introductions through.
Ithink i found it odd to see "Rave master" mentioned on the cover for western/english audience aimed release allot people would be way likely familiar to ft spin of "EDENS ZERO "than his first manga.
also explanations Japanese honorifics were very welcome.
good introductory volume into ft word.
4 stars
Okayyyyyy I went into this blind and I actually really enjoyed it a lot. I would sat this manga did give me similar vibes as One Piece but it definitely had its own twist to it. Thank you Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for this manga and I will be definitely reading more of this as well watching the anime!
