I've been meaning to read Fairy Tail for a while. After reading this, I thought it was okay, not my favorite but I can see why it's very popular.
If you like magic, adventure and cheeky humor, this manga might be for you!
Lucy is a celestial wizard and wants to join the notorious guild "Fairy Tail". When she meets Natsu and his talking cat Happy her dream will come true. But sometimes you should be careful about what you wish for.
Always in action, also funny and the characters are likable but it's a bit too much for me.
My wife loves the anime but I always prefer reading the manga so I wanted to give this a try. First thing's first, I love the art. It reminds me of One Piece, and I can definitely see where Hiro Mashima was inspired by it. The story was fun, definitely can tell it's an older manga, but Fairy Tail is definitely one of the classics and a must read for manga enthusiasts.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Kodandha comics for sharing this arc with me in exchange for an honest review. This is a very popular manga that I haven't had a chance to read until now and I was pleasantly surprised by it. It was a fun and quick read. I got to read the first 3 volumes and I will be picking up the next volumes.
A very popular shonen I hadn't had a chance to try until now! It was a fun, easy read, but I didn't really care for the characters
I really love Fairy Tail. It's goofy and over the top, but it has such heart! Having the first three volumes together in one omnibus is great - no need to stop and look for the next volume of these quick reads. Highly recommend!
Special thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for my honest review.
I was an avid anime watcher in high school, but quit watching shows in my final year. Ever since, people have been recommending Fairy Tail to me. It looked good enough, but I could not bring myself to watch it (or any other shows really). When I saw the arc for Vol 1 available, it seemed like a great time to finally check this out and I can only say that I am glad I never bothered watching the anime.
Having watched plenty of anime before, I am aware of the common tropes in shonen. However, I don't think violence for violence's sake is particularly funny. "Heroes" that bring down cities while hunting bad guys as a form of 'collateral damage' also is getting a bit boring. Then there's the sexualization of a 17-year-old girl, which doesn't sit right with me. Mix this with a couple of layers of misogyny and I was over it. I cannot in good conscience recommend this to anyone.
I really enjoy this manga series. All 3 volumes are entertaining .and I can’t wait to read more.
I do recommend
I received an eARC from NetGallery. Thank you!! Anyways, I've been a fan of the anime. So I knew I had to read this. If I could give this a 10 star rating I would! Fairy Tail volumes are packed with humor, action, and an amazing friendship between Lucy, Natzu and Happy. Give this a try, I'm sure you'll love it.

Want to thank Netgalley and publishers for giving me the chance to read this book.
How are you going to call it an Omnibus and only give us one fucking volume??? That right there pissed me off to no end. It is just so shitty.
The story was good, like the anime. And like the anime, the art wasn't all that. Natsu always best boy.
Complete nostaglia from my early anime days, I haven't kept up with this series but with the 100 year quest anime coming soon, I decided to dip back into this.
The book begins with a very much-needed honorifics explained. While most grown-ups have come across them at some point in their lives and know at least to some degree what each of those represents and why those are used, I think that is super great to have them in the book. This tiny detail makes the reading experience way better for young readers who might not be yet familiar with anything and everything Japan-related.
It was weird how it was stated that the file contained three volumes, yet there was only one.
Other than that, it was a great manga reading experience, authentic and fun.
I LOVE THIS MANGA! I didn't expect to see it on Netgalley so I grabbed the chance and downloaded it. I feel nostalgic reading this. I remember watching the anime and reading the manga in my school library. I love the art style and the story of Fairytail 💚
This manga is a bit mischievous. Especially in the drawing: the characters go from loving angels to horrible demons when they get angry and are quite disastrous in general, but the story is funny..
And all in all, some kind of morals also appear in the story, such as when the fake Salamander dedicates himself to driving girls crazy or in the case of Macao.
What I don’t like is the half European half Japanese manga display. I was going to go to the last page when I show the index and notice it starts with the spine on the left, but then some of the two page illustrations are broken due to this, which is a pity.
A most heartwarming thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for giving me the chance to read Fairy Tail Omnibus 1 (Vol. 1-3) by Hiro Mashima in exchange for my honest review.
This omnibus volume was just what i needed to get right back to the magic that is Fairy Tail. It had been years that I've read the manga or even watched the anime but given the chance to read this omnibus got me back to the times when I used to read it back when I was younger and the fact that as an omnibus contained three whole volumes and got me far enough in the beginning, had me adding it to the wishlist of things that my friends cold get me for Christmas.
It's been a long time since I saw a manga volume (be it omnibus or not) that had me instantly putting it on my wishlist and I ws really happy that it was Fairy Tail since it was one of the first few anime/manga I was into when I was younger and it really brought me back to the time when I learnt of the magic of manga and anime alike.
This digital ARC was obtainable via NetGalley for an honest review!
For years I've heard about "Fairy Tail" from my peers. I've even watched a few episodes of the anime in the past. I enjoyed "Fairy Tail Omnibus 1". It has a great found family aspect. Some scenes were quite humorous. I might just start the journey of reading the rest of the series.
A great manga and a great anime. I loved this. Im a fan of the tv-show and was pleasantly surprised to find how closely to the manga the show is. I downloaded this to read via the Netgalley app but was only able to access volume 1.
A pretty fun beginning to a very famous manga series. I like the premise of the magic guild and the main characters are interesting enough. The first 3 volumes weren't just full of fight scenes, which I usually don't like much. The story goes pretty fast and we're thrown in the meat and potatoes of the story fast, but still by the end of volume 3 the main plot is a little obscured. I didn't love the art style which I found a bit simple, but it's easy to read. Would recommend to manga fans who have yet to read this modern classic.
This omnibus was such a fun time! I hadn’t read the series before or watched the anime, so this was a completely new experience for me.
If you’re looking for a new fantasy manga, this collection is an easy recommendation. Following the wizards of Fairy Tail and the quests they go on is fun and refreshing (and I thoroughly enjoyed Happy’s character). Easily a manga I’m adding to my list to continue on with in the future!
This would be a perfect starting point for someone new to manga - its super clear, has a beautiful art style, and gives a brief explanation on translation and honourifics at the beginning (and even delves into some definitions at the end for any terms that might not be super common!).
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the complimentary e-arc in exchange for an honest review. All opinions in this review are my own.
Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha, this ebook included volume 1. The 3in1 version of fairy tail can be nice to save a bit compared to getting the single volumes.
Fairy Tail is one I would say is good for those just getting into manga or shounen series. It's a fantasy/adventure manga where power of friendship helps individuals find their strength. Throughout the series, more characters (all the characters have unique powers/skills) are introduced and some we learn more about as Natsu,Lucy & Happy take on more quests.
Volume one is starts to set up the series with Lucy looking to find the guild and run into Happy & Natsu. Some things happen and eventually she is taken to the guild by Natsu where their adventure together begins.
-there is fan service in the series
-power of friendship trope
